Discovering Your God-Given Calling

Week 1 – Knowing the One Who Calls

Theme Verse

"I therefore... beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called."— Ephesians 4:1 (KJV)

🌅 Welcome

Good morning, dear friends!

Welcome to a brand-new month and an exciting new Bible study journey!

Throughout August, we will discover one of the most life-changing truths found in God's Word:

Every believer has a God-given calling.

Many people spend years asking questions like:

"Why am I here?"

"Does God really have a purpose for my life?"

"How do I know what God wants me to do?"

The beautiful answer is found throughout Scripture.

God never creates anyone without purpose.

Before you were born...

Before anyone knew your name...

Before you took your first breath...

God already knew the plans He had for your life.

Your calling isn't about becoming famous.

It isn't about standing on a stage or having a title.

Your calling is about becoming the person God created you to be and faithfully serving Him wherever He places you.

This month, we'll learn together how to recognize His voice, discover our gifts, overcome fear, and joyfully walk in His purpose.

And it all begins with knowing the One who calls us.

📖 Scripture Reading

  • Jeremiah 1:4–9

  • Ephesians 4:1–6

  • Romans 8:28–30

  • Psalm 139:13–18

  • John 10:27

✝️ Bible Study

Many people search their entire lives for purpose.

They look for it in careers.

Achievements.

Relationships.

Possessions.

Recognition.

But true purpose is never found in what we accomplish.

It is found in Whom we belong to.

God's calling always begins with a relationship before it becomes a responsibility.

Before Jesus called the disciples to preach...

He first called them to follow Him.

Before Moses led Israel...

He met God at the burning bush.

Before David became king...

He learned to worship while tending sheep.

Before Esther saved a nation...

God quietly prepared her heart.

Notice the pattern.

God always develops the person before revealing the assignment.

Sometimes we become impatient because we want to know what God wants us to do.

God often begins by teaching us who He wants us to become.

Your character will always sustain your calling.

As you grow closer to Christ, His purpose for your life becomes clearer.

Don't worry if you don't have every answer today.

Simply keep walking with Jesus.

The One who called you knows exactly where He is leading you.

💜 Reflection Questions

  • Do I truly believe God has a unique calling for my life?

  • Am I pursuing a relationship with Christ above everything else?

  • What gifts or passions has God already placed in my heart?

  • What fears keep me from fully trusting God's plan?

  • How can I become more available for God to use me?

🙏 Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for creating me with purpose.

Thank You for knowing my life before I was born and for loving me beyond measure.

As we begin this new Bible study journey, open my heart to hear Your voice clearly.

Teach me to seek You before seeking my assignment.

Help me become the person You created me to be.

Remove fear, doubt, comparison, and insecurity from my heart.

Fill me with faith, wisdom, humility, and courage.

Reveal the gifts You have placed within me and show me how to use them to glorify You and serve others.

May my greatest desire always be to know You more deeply and faithfully follow wherever You lead.

In Jesus' precious name,

Amen.

🌼 Today's Challenge

Spend fifteen quiet minutes alone with God today.

Read Psalm 139 slowly.

Then write the answers to these questions in a journal:

  • What am I passionate about?

  • What opportunities has God placed before me?

  • Where do I naturally enjoy serving others?

  • How has God used my life experiences to prepare me?

  • Pray: "Lord, help me hear Your voice above every other voice."

Don't rush the answers.

This month is about listening to the Lord.

🌟 Today's Encouragement

God's calling isn't something you have to chase.

It's something you discover as you faithfully walk with Him.

You don't have to fear missing His plan.

The Good Shepherd knows exactly where His sheep are.

As long as you're following Jesus, He is faithful to guide every step.

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."— John 10:27 (KJV)

🌿 This Month's Journey

Over the next several weeks we'll discover:

🌿 Hearing God's voice.

❤️ Understanding your spiritual gifts.

🙏 Overcoming fear and doubt.

✝️ Serving with confidence.

🕊️ Walking faithfully in God's purpose.

🌎 Making an eternal difference for His Kingdom.

No matter your age, background, or past, God still calls ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things through His power.

🌻 Closing Thought

Your calling begins with a relationship, grows through obedience, and flourishes through faith. Before God shows you where He wants you to go, He lovingly invites you to walk beside Him. Stay close to Jesus, trust His leading, and allow Him to unfold His beautiful purpose for your life—one faithful step at a time.

May your August begin with renewed hope, expectant faith, and the joyful confidence that the God who created you also has a wonderful purpose for your life.

Welcome to an incredible new journey! God bless you! ✝️💜
