Your Calling Requires Courage
Theme Verse
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”— Joshua 1:9 (KJV)
🌅 Good Morning, Dear Friends!
Happy Saturday!
As we continue discovering our God-given calling, today we're talking about something every one of us will need along the journey:
Courage.
Sometimes we know what God is asking us to do, but fear keeps us from doing it.
We wonder:
What if I fail?
What if people criticize me?
What if I'm not good enough?
What if I misunderstood God?
What if I take the step and everything doesn't work out the way I hoped?
But perhaps there's another question we should ask:
“What if I allow fear to keep me from something God has called me to do?”
Courage isn't the absence of fear.
Biblical courage is trusting God enough to obey Him even when we're afraid.
đź“– Today's Scripture Reading
Joshua 1:1–9
Deuteronomy 31:6–8
Esther 4:13–16
2 Timothy 1:6–8
Psalm 27:1–5
Isaiah 41:10
✝️ Bible Study
Joshua had an enormous assignment.
Moses was gone.
Now Joshua would lead God's people into the Promised Land.
Can you imagine the responsibility he must have felt?
He had witnessed Moses' leadership.
He knew the challenges of leading Israel.
He knew there were enemies ahead.
And yet God repeatedly told Joshua:
Be strong.
Be courageous.
Do not be afraid.
Why could Joshua have courage?
Not because Joshua was guaranteed an easy journey.
Not because he was the strongest man.
Not because he had every answer.
God gave him the reason:
“…for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”— Joshua 1:9 (KJV)
Joshua's courage wasn't supposed to come from confidence in Joshua.
It came from confidence in God.
And ours should too.
🌿 Fear Will Always Give You a Reason to Stay Put
Fear is very convincing.
Fear says:
Wait until you're more qualified.
Wait until you have more money.
Wait until everyone agrees with you.
Wait until you're certain you'll succeed.
Wait until you're no longer nervous.
But if we're waiting until there is absolutely no fear, we may never move.
There are times when wisdom tells us to wait.
There are times when God Himself tells us to wait.
But there are also times when we already know what God has asked us to do, and fear is the only thing keeping us from obeying.
That's when courage becomes necessary.
đź’ś Courage Doesn't Mean Doing Something Reckless
This is important.
Faith isn't an excuse to make careless decisions and then expect God to fix them.
Before taking major steps, pray.
Search God's Word.
Seek godly wisdom.
Consider your responsibilities.
Make sure what you're pursuing agrees with Scripture.
But once God has clearly directed you, don't keep asking Him for another sign simply because obedience feels uncomfortable.
Sometimes the confirmation we're looking for has already been given.
We just need courage to obey it.
🌻 Esther Had to Choose Courage
Esther faced a decision that could have cost her life.
She could remain silent and protect her comfort, or she could use the position God had given her to help save her people.
Mordecai told her:
“…and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”— Esther 4:14 (KJV)
Esther responded:
“…and if I perish, I perish.”— Esther 4:16 (KJV)
That's courage.
She didn't know exactly what would happen.
She simply decided that obedience mattered more than comfort.
Maybe God isn't asking you to stand before a king.
But He may be asking you to:
Speak.
Serve.
Lead.
Write.
Teach.
Start.
Forgive.
Share your testimony.
Pray with someone.
Apply for the opportunity.
Step into leadership.
Stand for biblical truth with love.
Whatever your assignment may be, courage says:
“Lord, I'm afraid, but I trust You more than I trust my fear.”
🌿 Don't Confuse Feeling Unqualified With Being Uncalled
Throughout Scripture, many people God used felt inadequate.
Moses questioned his ability to speak.
Gideon saw himself as insignificant.
Jeremiah thought he was too young.
Yet God's answer was repeatedly centered on the same promise:
“I am with you.”
Perhaps you've been telling God everything you lack.
But God already knows.
He knew your weaknesses when He called you.
He knew your past.
He knew your personality.
He knew what you would need to learn.
He knew where you would struggle.
And He called you anyway.
Your weakness doesn't surprise God.
When we depend upon Him, even our weaknesses can become places where His strength is displayed.
đź’ś Reflection Questions
What am I afraid to do?
Has fear delayed something God has already asked me to do?
Am I waiting for confidence before choosing obedience?
What would I attempt if I truly believed God would walk beside me?
What past experience reminds me that God has been faithful?
Where do I need courage right now?
What is one courageous step I can take this week?
🙏 Today's Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for promising to be with me wherever You lead.
You know the fears I carry.
You know the places where I feel uncertain, inadequate, or afraid of failure.
Lord, don't allow fear to become louder than Your voice.
Give me wisdom so that I don't move ahead of You, but give me courage so that I don't remain behind when You tell me to go.
Help me stop depending upon my own strength.
Remind me that whatever You call me to do, I don't have to do alone.
Give me courage to speak when You say speak.
Courage to move when You say move.
Courage to wait when You say wait.
And courage to stand when You say stand.
May my life demonstrate that my confidence is not in myself, but in You.
In Jesus' precious name,
Amen.
🌼 Today's Calling Challenge
Take a page in your journal and write:
FEAR SAYS... BUT GOD SAYS...
Write down three fears.
Then answer each one with God's Word.
Fear says:Â I am alone.
God says:
“I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”— Hebrews 13:5 (KJV)
Fear says:Â I am too weak.
God says:
“My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”— 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)
Fear says:Â I can't do this.
God says:
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”— Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
Now write down one step fear has been keeping you from taking.
Pray about it.
And if God confirms that it's the step He wants you to take:
Take it.
🌟 Today's Encouragement
You don't need to become fearless before God can use you.
You need to become faithful.
Your knees may shake.
Your voice may tremble.
You may wonder whether you're ready.
But remember:
God's presence is greater than your fear.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God…”— Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)
🌻 Closing Thought
Courage isn't saying, “I'm not afraid.” Courage is saying, “I may be afraid, but God is with me, so fear will not make my decisions.”
You don't have to know every detail.
You don't have to feel completely prepared.
You don't have to receive everyone's approval.
You simply need to know that when God calls you forward, He goes with you.
So today, remember the words God gave Joshua:
“Be strong and of a good courage.”
Take the next faithful step.
God is already there.
Have a beautifully blessed Saturday! ✝️💜
