Christian Focus: God's Beautiful Earth – A Day of Reflection While not an official feast day, today offers a wonderful opportunity for Christians to reflect on God’s creation and our role in caring for it. Psalm 24:1 (KJV) reminds us: “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” As we enjoy the beauty around us—whether the sunrise, the trees, or the birds—let’s take time to give thanks and be good stewards of His handiwork.
National Holiday: Earth Day Today marks Earth Day, a celebration that encourages people around the world to care for the planet. Whether planting trees, picking up litter, or simply enjoying nature, we can honor this day by remembering that creation is a gift from God—and it’s our responsibility to preserve it for future generations.
Heritage & History: 1864 – The U.S. Mint Begins Using “In God We Trust." On this day in 1864, the United States Congress passed an act allowing the motto “In God We Trust” to appear on coins. This phrase would later become the national motto in 1956. What a beautiful reminder that faith was and is at the foundation of our nation’s identity.
1970 – The First Earth Day is Celebrated Founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, the first Earth Day mobilized 20 million Americans to raise awareness for environmental protection. This movement has now grown into a global tradition celebrated by over a billion people worldwide.
Faith Thought for Today: Let's honor the Lord today by being mindful of the beauty He created, showing kindness to others, and living with purpose. From the air we breathe to the soil under our feet, it all belongs to Him.
Verse of the Day: "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.”—Genesis 1:31 (KJV)
