šŸ‘• Old Sweater → Cozy Cottage Fabric Pumpkins

Happy Saturday, crafting friends! šŸ’œ

Today's project is all about repurposing something we might otherwise donate or throw away.

We're taking an old sweater and turning it into beautiful, soft AUTUMN HARVEST PUMPKINSĀ for our homes. šŸŽƒšŸ‚

These are simple farmhouse harvest pumpkins—perfect for celebrating autumn, family gatherings, Thanksgiving, and the beauty of the harvest season.

And here's the fun part...

The sweater doesn't even have to be perfect!

A stain on the sleeve?

A little hole?

Shrunk in the wash?

PERFECT CRAFT MATERIAL! šŸ˜

Let's give it a second chance.

šŸ›’ WHAT YOU'LL NEED

šŸ‘• Old sweaterāœ‚ļø Fabric scissors🧵 Strong thread, yarn, or embroidery floss🪔 Large sewing needleā˜ļø Pillow stuffing or filling from an old pillow🪵 Small sticks or cinnamon sticks for stems🧶 Jute twinešŸŽ€ Burlap, gingham, plaid, or lace ribbon🌿 Faux leaves or greenery🌾 Wheat — optional🪵 Wooden beads — optionalšŸ–Œļø Hot glue gun — optional

ā™»ļø SHOP YOUR HOUSE FIRST!

Before buying anything, check:

šŸ‘• The closet

šŸ›ļø Old pillows

šŸŽ€ Ribbon scraps

🧶 Leftover yarn

🌳 Sticks from the yard

🌿 Old floral arrangements

You may be able to make today's project for FREE!

āœ‚ļø STEP 1 — CHOOSE YOUR SWEATER

Look for sweaters with interesting texture.

Try:

šŸ¤ Cream cable knit

🌿 Sage green

šŸ¤Ž Warm beige

šŸ’œ Soft lavender

🧔 Burnt orange

ā¤ļø Deep burgundy

Plaid shirts and flannel can work too!

Thrift stores are wonderful places to find inexpensive fabric for projects like this.

šŸ“ STEP 2 — CUT YOUR FABRIC

Cut a rectangle from the body or sleeve of your sweater.

A sleeve makes an especially easy small pumpkin because you already have a fabric tube!

Remember:

Bigger piece = bigger pumpkin.

There's no perfect measurement required.

🧵 STEP 3 — CLOSE THE BOTTOM

Turn the fabric inside out.

Gather one end tightly with strong thread or yarn.

Tie it securely.

Turn the fabric right-side out again.

You now have a little fabric pouch!

ā˜ļø STEP 4 — STUFF YOUR PUMPKIN

Fill your pouch with stuffing.

Don't have craft stuffing?

Repurpose:

šŸ›ļø An old pillow

🧸 Clean stuffing from an unused cushion

🧦 Fabric scraps

Fill it until it's plump but still soft enough to shape.

🪔 STEP 5 — CLOSE THE TOP

Gather the open edge of the fabric toward the center.

Secure it tightly with thread.

Don't worry if the top isn't perfect.

Our stem and decorations will cover it!

šŸŽƒ STEP 6 — CREATE THE PUMPKIN SHAPE

Want those beautiful pumpkin sections?

Wrap strong yarn or embroidery floss around the pumpkin from top to bottom.

Pull gently until it creates an indentation.

Repeat around the pumpkin until you have several soft sections.

NOW IT'S REALLY STARTING TO LOOK LIKE A HARVEST PUMPKIN! šŸ˜

🪵 STEP 7 — ADD YOUR STEM

Cut a small stick from the yard or use a cinnamon stick.

Place it into the center.

Secure it if necessary.

I LOVE using real sticks because every pumpkin looks a little different!

šŸŽ€ STEP 8 — ADD THE COZY DETAILS

Tie a little jute around the stem.

Then add:

šŸŽ€ Plaid ribbon

šŸ¤ Lace

🌿 Small leaf

🌾 Wheat

🧶 Raffia

🪵 Wooden bead

Keep it simple.

Sometimes a little piece of lace and one leaf are all you need.

🧺 STEP 9 — CREATE A HARVEST BASKET

Don't make just ONE!

Create several pumpkins in different sizes and fabrics.

Place them inside:

🧺 Thrifted basket

🄣 Wooden dough bowl

🪵 Old crate

🪣 Galvanized bucket

šŸ½ļø Vintage tray

Add:

🌻 Sunflowers

🌾 Wheat

šŸŽ Apples

🌿 Greenery

šŸ‚ Autumn leaves

Now you've created a gorgeous Cozy Cottage Harvest Centerpiece!

šŸ‘Øā€šŸ‘©ā€šŸ‘§ā€šŸ‘¦ SATURDAY FAMILY CRAFT!

This is a wonderful project to make together.

Let everyone choose their own fabric.

Children can help:

ā˜ļø Add stuffing

🪵 Choose stems

šŸŽ€ Pick ribbon

🌿 Choose decorations

Adults can handle the cutting, sewing, and hot glue.

Write everyone's name and 2026Ā on a little tag and attach it to their pumpkin.

Now you have a family keepsake!

šŸ’” MAKE A MEMORY PUMPKIN

Here's an extra-special idea.

Have a sweater or shirt that belonged to someone you love?

Instead of getting rid of it, consider turning a small piece into a fabric pumpkin.

Attach a little tag:

ā¤ļø ā€œMEMORIES ARE FOREVER.ā€

That simple autumn decoration could become something your family treasures for years.

šŸ’° SATURDAY ZERO-DOLLAR CHALLENGE!

That's right...

Today's challenge isn't $10.

It isn't $5.

šŸ’° IT'S $0!

Can you create today's project using ONLY things you already have?

Old sweater.

Old pillow.

Stick from outside.

Ribbon scrap.

Leftover greenery.

FREE CRAFT! šŸ™Œ

Sometimes creativity begins by looking around our own home and realizing how much we already have.

šŸ’œ TODAY'S INSPIRATION

I think repurposing teaches us something beautiful.

Something doesn't have to be brand-new to have value.

Something doesn't have to be perfect to become beautiful.

And something that has reached the end of one purposeĀ may simply be ready for another.

That old sweater might not be worn again...

But maybe it can become part of a family tradition that comes out every autumn for years to come. šŸ’œ

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:"

— Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV)

🌻 SATURDAY QUESTION!

What old fabric would YOU repurpose?

šŸ‘• Sweater

šŸ‘” Flannel shirt

šŸ‘– Old jeans

šŸ›ļø Vintage quilt

šŸ¤ Lace

🧺 Feed sack

šŸ’œ Something sentimental
