📖 The True Meaning of Christmas — December Bible Study

Day 5 – December 5th: Called to Follow Him

Luke Chapter 5

🕊️ Key Scripture (KJV):“And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.”— Luke 5:11

📚 Devotional Thought

Luke 5 is a powerful reminder that the birth of Jesus wasn’t just a moment in history—it was the beginning of a life-changing invitation for all people:Come, follow Me.

In this chapter, Jesus calls His first disciples. He steps into Simon Peter’s boat, teaches the people, and then performs a miracle—a catch so great that the nets break and the boats begin to sink.

Peter, overwhelmed by God’s presence, falls to his knees. He knows he is unworthy. He knows he is sinful. But Jesus sees past his fear and says:“Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.”

Christmas is the story of God coming close…Luke 5 is the story of God calling us closer.

Jesus still calls us today:• to trust Him• to follow Him• to leave behind what weighs us down• to step into a life of purpose• to walk with Him daily

Just like the disciples, we each have a choice—cling to what is familiar or follow the Savior who leads us into divine purpose.

This Christmas, Jesus isn’t just calling us to remember His birth—He’s calling us to follow Him with our whole heart.

🎄 Traditional Reflection: Why We Give Gifts at Christmas

One of the oldest Christmas traditions is gift-giving—a reminder of the wise men who brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

But even more, gifts symbolize the greatest gift ever given:Jesus Himself.

The disciples left everything because they discovered that nothing compares to the gift of knowing Him.

So when we give gifts this season, let them reflect grateful hearts for the One who gave everything for us.

🙏 Prayer Prompt

Lord, help me to follow You more closely.Teach me to trust You even when Your direction feels unfamiliar.Help me surrender the things that hold me back so I can walk fully in the purpose You have for me.

✍️ Reflection Questions

• What is Jesus asking me to “leave behind” this season so I can follow Him more fully?• How has Jesus called me in my own walk with Him?• What miracle has He done in my life that strengthened my faith to follow?
