December 20th: Recognizing the Authority of Jesusš Luke Chapter 20
šļø Key Scripture (KJV):āAnd he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesarās, and unto God the things which be Godās.āā Luke 20:25
š Devotional Thought:
Luke 20 centers around one important question: Who truly has authority?
Religious leaders challenge Jesus, questioning His right to teach, to lead, and to speak truth. They attempt to trap Him with clever questions, hoping to undermine His influence. But Jesus responds with wisdom, authority, and truth that silences every argument.
This chapter reminds us that Jesus was never just a baby in a mangerāHe is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Christmas celebrates His humble arrival, but Luke 20 reveals His divine authority. He speaks with wisdom no one can refute. He sees through hypocrisy. He exposes hearts. And He reminds us that while we live in this world, our ultimate allegiance belongs to God.
As Christmas approaches, this chapter gently challenges us to ask:Who holds authority in my life?Is it culture? Tradition? Schedules? Expectations?Or is it Jesus?
Jesus teaches that God deserves more than a portion of our livesāHe deserves our whole heart.
When we recognize His authority, our priorities change. Our decisions reflect faith. Our lives align more closely with His truth. Christmas becomes more than celebrationāit becomes submission, worship, and obedience.
Honoring Jesus as Lord is the greatest gift we can offer Him.
š Christmas Reflection: The Kingship of Christ
While Christmas often focuses on shepherds and stables, Scripture reminds us that the baby born in Bethlehem is also a King. Wise men followed a star because they were seeking a rulerānot of earthly power, but of eternal truth.
Luke 20 calls us to recognize and honor the authority of Christānot just at Christmas, but every day.
š Prayer Prompt:
Lord, help me fully recognize Your authority in my life.Teach me to honor You not just with words, but with obedience and trust. As Christmas draws near, may my heart submit to You as Savior and King.
āļø Reflection Questions:
⢠Who or what influences my decisions the most right now?⢠In what areas of my life do I need to submit more fully to Jesusā authority?⢠How does recognizing Jesus as King deepen the meaning of Christmas for me?
