Good morning, crafting friends! 💜🌻
Can you believe today is the LAST DAY OF SEPTEMBER? Tomorrow we welcome October, and what better way to finish the month than with a beautiful, budget-friendly craft!
Today, we're doing something a little different!
We're taking an ordinary thrifted wicker basket and transforming it into a gorgeous Cozy Cottage Hanging Flower Basket that looks like something you might find in a beautiful country boutique!
You know those old baskets sitting on thrift-store shelves for just a dollar or two? Maybe they're a little faded, have an outdated ribbon, or simply need some love.
DON'T PASS THEM BY! 😍
With a few inexpensive supplies from Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or even your own craft stash, we can turn that forgotten basket into something beautiful!
And the best part? You can change the flowers with the seasons!
🛒 WHAT YOU'LL NEED
🌻 Small wicker basket with a handle (a shallow basket works especially well)
🎨 Chalk paint or acrylic paint (optional)
🖌️ Paintbrush
🌿 Faux greenery or eucalyptus
🌻 Sunflowers or other autumn flowers
🌾 Wheat stems
🍂 Autumn leaves
🎀 Burlap, gingham, or lace ribbon
🧶 Jute twine
✂️ Scissors or wire cutters
🔥 Hot glue gun and glue sticks
🧽 Floral foam (optional)
🪵 Small wooden tag
Money-saving tip: Before buying flowers, check old arrangements around your house. You may already have everything you need!
🔨 STEP-BY-STEP DIRECTIONS
🌻 STEP 1 — FIND YOUR HIDDEN GEM!
Visit your favorite thrift store, yard sale, estate sale, or flea market.
Look for a small wicker basket with a sturdy handle.
Don't worry if the color is outdated or the basket has a little wear.
Those imperfections give it character!
Clean the basket carefully and allow it to dry completely.
🎨 STEP 2 — GIVE IT A COTTAGE MAKEOVER
You can leave the basket natural or lightly dry-brush it with paint.
Beautiful color choices include:
🤍 Antique White
🌿 Sage Green
💜 Dusty Lavender
🤎 Warm Natural Brown
🩵 Cottage Blue
For today's project, I love the idea of a natural wicker basket with a little antique-white paint brushed across the raised areas.
It creates that soft, collected-over-time cottage look!
🌿 STEP 3 — ADD YOUR GREENERY
Place a small piece of floral foam inside the basket if needed.
Begin with eucalyptus or other greenery.
Let a few pieces hang naturally over the sides.
Remember, we don't want everything perfectly arranged.
A little natural movement makes it beautiful!
🌻 STEP 4 — ADD YOUR AUTUMN FLOWERS
Now for my favorite part!
Add:
🌻 Sunflowers
🌾 Wheat stems
🍂 Autumn leaves
🤍 Cream-colored flowers
🍎 Small berry picks
Arrange the taller stems toward the back and shorter flowers toward the front.
Keep adjusting until you're happy with the arrangement.
🎀 STEP 5 — MAKE A BEAUTIFUL BOW
Choose your favorite ribbon!
Try combining burlap with cream lace or a pretty autumn gingham.
Tie a bow around the basket handle.
For a sweet cottage touch, allow the ribbon tails to hang down one side.
🪵 STEP 6 — ADD A LITTLE WOODEN SIGN
Use a small wooden tag or scrap of wood.
Write:
🍂 Harvest Blessings
🌻 Welcome Fall
🙏 Grateful & Blessed
🏡 Bless This Home
💜 Gather With Love
Attach the sign with jute twine.
🏡 STEP 7 — DISPLAY YOUR CREATION!
Hang your finished basket:
🚪 On your front door
🪟 From an old window frame
🏡 In your entryway
🍽️ In the dining room
☕ Beside your coffee bar
🛋️ On a cottage gallery wall
Use a sturdy hook appropriate for the basket's weight, and keep it protected from rain if the materials aren't weatherproof.
And just like that, you've turned a forgotten basket into beautiful handmade home décor!

Use flowers from an old arrangement.

You might even complete the entire project without spending anything!
Remember, we're not trying to see how much money we can spend.
We're seeing how much beauty we can create with what we already have! 💜
💜 TODAY'S INSPIRATION — BEAUTY IN THE OVERLOOKED
One of the things I love most about thrifting is finding treasures that other people have overlooked.
Sometimes something is sitting on a shelf simply because it doesn't look beautiful anymore.
Maybe it's worn.
Maybe it's outdated.
Maybe someone just couldn't see its potential.
But with a little time, care, and imagination, something forgotten can become beautiful again.
And you know, that reminds me of how God works in our lives.
There are seasons when we may feel worn down, discouraged, or unsure of our purpose.
But God doesn't look at us the way the world does.
He knows our story.
He sees our potential.
And He can bring beauty from the most difficult seasons of our lives.
Just because something has been overlooked doesn't mean it has lost its value.
Sometimes it simply needs someone to see the beauty that's still there. 💜
