Happy Friday, crafting friends! 💜🍂
Who's ready for another Dollar Store transformation?
Today we're taking those inexpensive little wooden crates you sometimes find in the craft section and turning them into an adorable Cozy Cottage Pumpkin Patch Display! 🎃🌻
We're going to paint, stack, decorate, and personalize them—and when we're finished, we'll have a beautiful fall decoration that can be used year after year.
And remember our September rule:

Let's get started!
🛒 WHAT YOU'LL NEED
🪵 2–3 small wooden crates🎨 Chalk or acrylic paint🖌️ Paintbrushes or sponge brushes🎃 Mini pumpkins🌻 Faux sunflowers🍂 Fall leaves🌿 Greenery🌾 Wheat or fall floral picks🎀 Burlap, plaid, gingham, or lace ribbon🪵 Wooden letters or small tags🧶 Jute twine🌲 Pinecones and acorns🖌️ Hot glue gun & glue sticks✂️ Scissors🕯️ Optional flameless candle or mini lantern
♻️ REPURPOSING TIP
No little wooden crates?
Look around your house!
You could substitute:
📦 Small sturdy boxes🧺 Old baskets🗄️ Small wooden drawers🪵 Scrap-wood boxes🥫 Clean coffee cans wrapped in burlap
Use what you have!
🎨 STEP 1 — PAINT YOUR CRATES
Give each crate a different cozy fall finish.
Try:
🤍 Antique White🧡 Pumpkin Orange🌿 Sage Green🤎 Warm Brown💜 Muted Lavender
Or stain them and let the natural wood show through.
Let everything dry completely.
🧽 STEP 2 — GIVE THEM SOME CHARACTER
Now let's make those brand-new crates look like they've been sitting in a cozy cottage for years!
Using a nearly dry brush, lightly add brown, gray, or white paint around the edges.
Don't cover everything.
We want little imperfections and worn-looking areas.
Remember: FARMHOUSE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE PERFECT! 🏡
🏷️ STEP 3 — ADD YOUR FALL WORDS
Paint, stencil, or attach little wooden letters to the front of each crate.
Try:
🎃 PUMPKINS
🌻 HARVEST
🍂 FALL
🙏 BLESSED
🏡 WELCOME
❤️ THANKFUL
Or create three crates that together say:
🍂 FALL • SWEET • FALL
📦 STEP 4 — STACK YOUR CRATES
Now arrange your crates!
Try stacking:
🪵 One flat on the bottom
🪵 One turned sideways
🪵 One slightly higher
Don't line everything up perfectly.
Different heights create a more interesting collected-over-time cottage look.
If children or pets can reach the display, make sure your stacked pieces are stable and secure.
STEP 5 — CREATE YOUR PUMPKIN PATCH!
Fill those crates with:
Mini pumpkins🌻 Sunflowers🍂 Fall leaves🌾 Wheat🌿 Greenery🌲 Pinecones🌰 Acorns
Let a few vines or leaves trail over the edges.
Mix orange pumpkins with white, cream, and green ones for a softer cottage look.
🎀 STEP 6 — ADD SOME COZY TEXTURE
Tie a bow around one crate or handle.
Mix:
🤎 Burlap🖤 Buffalo Check🧡 Fall Plaid🤍 Lace🌻 Sunflower Ribbon
You can also tuck a scrap of plaid fabric inside one crate like a little liner.
Old shirts and fabric scraps are PERFECT for this!
🕯️ STEP 7 — ADD A LITTLE GLOW
Place a small flameless candle or battery-operated lantern beside your crates.
Add a few pumpkins and pinecones around the bottom.
Now your little Dollar Store craft has become an entire Cozy Cottage Fall Vignette! 😍
🏡 WHERE CAN YOU DISPLAY IT?
Try it on your:
🚪 Covered porch🔥 Fireplace hearth☕ Coffee bar🍽️ Dining-room buffet🏡 Entryway table🪜 Beside a blanket ladder🍂 Fall decorating shelf
You can make the display as large or as small as your space allows.
♻️ DON'T PACK THOSE CRATES AWAY AFTER FALL!

🌷 Spring: Tulips, nests & little birds

ONE SET OF CRATES — DECOR ALL YEAR LONG!

Make it even cheaper by using:
🍂 Pinecones from outside
🌰 Acorns from the yard
🪵 Scrap wood
🎀 Leftover ribbon
🌻 Florals from old arrangements
👕 Fabric from an unwanted plaid shirt
Creativity doesn't have to be expensive!
👨👩👧👦 WEEKEND FAMILY IDEA!
Let each family member decorate ONE crate.
Someone paints.
Someone makes the sign.
Someone chooses the pumpkins.
Someone creates the floral arrangement.
Then put everyone's crates together into one big family fall display!
Don't forget to write everyone's names and 2026 somewhere underneath.
Someday that inexpensive craft may become a treasured family memory. 💜
