🇺🇸 LABOR DAY CRAFT SPECIAL

🪵 Dollar Store Wood Signs → “Built With Love” Family Work & Blessings Sign

Happy Labor Day, crafting friends! ❤️🤍💙

Today we celebrate the hardworking men and women whose hands, talents, skills, and determination have helped build our communities and our country.

And because this is Thrifted Treasures & DIY Creations, we're celebrating the best way we know how...

BY MAKING SOMETHING TOGETHER! 🎨🔨

Today's project is an inexpensive “Built With Love” Family Sign made with Dollar Store wooden pieces, craft sticks, or repurposed scrap wood.

This is a wonderful project for parents, grandparents, children, and grandchildren to make together on Labor Day.

🛒 WHAT YOU'LL NEED

🪵 Dollar Store wooden sign, craft sticks, or scrap wood🎨 Red, white & blue craft paint🖌️ Paintbrushes🧶 Jute twine⭐ Wooden stars — optional🎀 Patriotic ribbon🪵 Wooden letters or stencils🖌️ Hot glue gun✂️ Scissors📜 Small cardstock tags🔨 Optional miniature wooden tool embellishments

♻️ DON'T BUY IT IF YOU ALREADY HAVE IT!

Before heading to the store, check:

🪵 Scrap wood in the garage🎨 Leftover paint🎀 Ribbon scraps🧶 Twine⭐ Old patriotic decorations🖼️ An unwanted wooden sign you can repaint

Today's project might cost almost nothing!

🪵 STEP 1 — CREATE YOUR SIGN

Use one larger wooden plaque or place several craft boards side-by-side.

No Dollar Store sign?

Repurpose:

🖼️ An old picture frame backing

🚪 A small cabinet door

🪵 Scrap lumber

🗄️ An old drawer front

Sometimes the best craft supply isn't at the store—it's sitting forgotten in the garage!

🎨 STEP 2 — PAINT YOUR BACKGROUND

Give your sign a rustic Americana finish.

Try:

🤍 Distressed White

❤️ Barn Red

💙 Navy Blue

🤎 Natural Wood with patriotic accents

For a cozy farmhouse appearance, don't worry about making the paint perfectly solid.

Let a little wood grain show through!

⭐ STEP 3 — ADD YOUR MESSAGE

Paint, stencil, or attach letters saying:

❤️ “BUILT WITH LOVE”

Underneath, add:

🇺🇸 Faith • Family • Hard Work

Other ideas:

🔨 Work Hard • Stay Humble

🏡 Bless This Working Home

❤️ Faith • Family • Freedom

🙏 Thankful for the Work of Our Hands

Choose something meaningful to YOUR family.

🎨 STEP 4 — LET EVERYONE ADD SOMETHING

Here's where today's project becomes special!

Give every family member a little wooden star or cardstock tag.

Have them write:

🔨 A job they are thankful for

❤️ Something they appreciate about another person's hard work

🇺🇸 A worker who helps their community

🙏 Something God has provided for their family

Little children can draw pictures instead!

Attach the stars or tags around your sign.

🎀 STEP 5 — ADD THE PATRIOTIC DETAILS

Decorate with a few simple touches:

⭐ Wooden stars🎀 Red, white & blue ribbon🇺🇸 Small flags🧶 Jute twine🌿 Greenery

Keep it rustic and simple.

You don't need to cover every inch!

🔨 STEP 6 — ADD A LITTLE REPURPOSING FUN!

Have any old, unusable hand tools around?

A worn wooden ruler, small retired paintbrush, or old tool handle can become part of your display.

Only use clean, lightweight pieces that can be safely secured.

It gives the project a wonderful “made by hardworking hands” feeling.

🏡 STEP 7 — DISPLAY IT!

Place your finished sign:

🚪 Near the entryway

🔥 On the mantel

🪜 Beside a blanket ladder

🛠️ In Dad or Grandpa's workshop

🧵 In Mom or Grandma's craft room

🏡 On a family gallery wall

Or display it with old family photographs showing generations of hardworking loved ones.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 LABOR DAY FAMILY IDEA

Ask everyone:

“What job would you LOVE to try for one day?”

👨‍🚒 Firefighter?

👩‍🏫 Teacher?

👨‍🌾 Farmer?

👩‍⚕️ Nurse?

👷 Builder?

👨‍🍳 Cook?

🎨 Artist?

🪚 Carpenter?

Then talk with the children about how all kinds of honest work matter.

You could even invite grandparents to tell stories about their first jobs.

Those stories are part of your family's history. ❤️

💰 LABOR DAY $5 CHALLENGE!

Today's challenge is simple:

MAKE IT FOR $5 OR LESS!

Even better...

MAKE IT ENTIRELY FROM SCRAPS!

Look in that garage.

Dig through the craft closet.

Check leftover paint cans.

Pull out the ribbon scraps.

Today we're celebrating work by putting our own hands to work! 🔨🎨

❤️ LABOR DAY INSPIRATION

Labor Day isn't only another long weekend.

It's an opportunity to appreciate the people who get up every day and work.

The farmers.

Teachers.

Factory workers.

Truck drivers.

Healthcare workers.

Construction crews.

Small-business owners.

Office workers.

First responders.

Service workers.

Tradespeople.

And countless others whose work often happens quietly behind the scenes.

There is dignity in honest work.

And Scripture reminds us that whatever work God places before us, we can do it with our whole heart.

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;"

— Colossians 3:23 (KJV)

🇺🇸 TODAY'S QUESTION

What was YOUR very first job?

Tell us in the comments!

And if you're spending Labor Day crafting...

📸 SHOW US WHAT YOU MADE!

Post those Dollar Store crafts, thrift flips, woodworking projects, sewing creations, furniture makeovers, and family projects.

Let's celebrate the work of our hands and the creativity God has given us! 🙏❤️

Have a safe, relaxing, and blessed Labor Day! 🇺🇸

THRIFT IT. ♻️ REPURPOSE IT. 🔨 CREATE IT. 🎨 LOVE IT. 💜
