🪑 Old Dresser → Beautiful Farmhouse Entryway Bench

One of my favorite thrift store and estate sale transformations is turning an old dresser into a beautiful entryway bench. Instead of letting an outdated dresser end up in a landfill, give it a second chance and create a stunning piece that's both functional and beautiful!

🧺 What You'll Need

Old dresser (preferably solid wood)
Circular saw or jigsaw
Drill & screws
Sandpaper
Wood filler
Primer
Chalk paint or furniture paint
Clear polyurethane or furniture wax
Upholstery foam (optional)
Fabric (optional)
Decorative baskets
Throw pillows

🔨 Step-by-Step Directions

1️⃣ Find Your Treasure

Look for sturdy dressers at:

🏡 Estate Sales

🛍️ Thrift Stores

🚜 Flea Markets

🏚️ Habitat ReStore

Don't worry about scratches or outdated finishes—they can be transformed!

2️⃣ Remove the Top Drawers

Take out the top one or two drawers.

This creates the opening where the bench seat will go.

Leave the bottom drawers in place for storage.

3️⃣ Build the Bench

Cut a piece of plywood to fit securely across the opening.

Attach it using wood screws and support brackets.

If you'd like a cushioned seat:

✔ Add upholstery foam

✔ Wrap with batting

✔ Cover with your favorite fabric

4️⃣ Prepare the Dresser

Fill unwanted holes.
Sand rough edges.
Prime if necessary.
Paint or stain.
