🍂🌻 THRIFTED TREASURES & DIY CREATIONS 🌻🍂Sunday, September 13, 2026🙏 SUNDAY CRAFT OF THE DAY🪟 Old Window Frame → “Count Your Blessings”
🪟 Old Window Frame → “Count Your Blessings” Family Display
Happy Sunday, crafting friends! 💜
Today's project combines three things I love:
♻️ Giving old treasures a second chance👨👩👧👦 Creating something meaningful for our families🙏 Taking time to remember God's blessings
We're taking an old window frame and turning it into a beautiful Count Your Blessings Family Display filled with Scripture, photographs, gratitude notes, and cozy autumn harvest touches. 🌻🍎🌾
Don't have an old window? No problem! A large thrifted picture frame works beautifully too.
Let's create something that means more than simply decorating our homes.
🛒 WHAT YOU'LL NEED
🪟 Old window or large thrifted frame🧽 Cleaning supplies🎨 Chalk paint — optional🧶 Jute twine📌 Mini clothespins📸 Family photographs📜 Cardstock or scrapbook paper✏️ Pens or markers🌻 Faux sunflowers🌾 Wheat stems🍂 Autumn leaves🌿 Greenery🎀 Burlap, gingham, plaid, or lace ribbon🪵 Small wooden tag🖌️ Hot glue or floral wire✂️ Scissors
♻️ SHOP YOUR HOUSE FIRST!
Before buying anything, look for:
🖼️ An unused frame🎀 Ribbon scraps📜 Scrapbook paper🌻 Leftover florals🧶 Twine📸 Photographs🪵 Scrap wood
You may already have everything you need!
🪟 STEP 1 — FIND YOUR OLD WINDOW
Look at thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets, architectural salvage shops, or your own garage.
Choose something with character!
If you're using an older painted window with an unknown finish, avoid sanding or scraping it until you know the paint is safe. You can clean it carefully and preserve the aged appearance instead.
🎨 STEP 2 — CREATE YOUR COTTAGE LOOK
If the frame already has beautiful character, leave it alone.
Otherwise, paint it:
🤍 Antique White🌿 Sage Green🤎 Warm Taupe💜 Muted Lavender🩵 Cottage Blue
Lightly distress only newer/safe finishes if you'd like that well-loved cottage appearance.
🧶 STEP 3 — ADD YOUR MEMORY LINES
Remove the glass if needed for the style you're creating, then stretch several pieces of jute across the back of the open frame.
Secure them tightly.
Add mini clothespins.
Now you have little lines ready to hold your family's memories and blessings!
📸 STEP 4 — ADD FAMILY MEMORIES
Clip on favorite photographs.
Choose pictures that remind you of:
❤️ People you love🙏 Answered prayers🏡 Home🌻 Special days👨👩👧👦 Family gatherings🚗 Adventures together💜 Loved ones you want to remember
These don't have to be professional pictures.
Sometimes the ordinary photographs hold the greatest memories.
✂️ STEP 5 — MAKE YOUR BLESSING CARDS
Cut cardstock into small cards.
Write prompts such as:
🙏 Today I thank God for...
❤️ Someone who blessed me...
🌻 Something that made me smile...
📖 A Scripture I'm holding onto...
🙌 A prayer God answered...
🏡 A favorite family memory...
Leave several cards blank so everyone can add their own thoughts.
🌻 STEP 6 — ADD AUTUMN HARVEST BEAUTY
Create a small arrangement in one corner using:
🌻 Sunflowers🌾 Wheat🍂 Autumn leaves🌿 Greenery🍎 Apple picks
Secure everything with floral wire or removable ties whenever possible.
Then add a little burlap, gingham, plaid, or lace bow.
Keep it simple so the family memories remain the focus.
🪵 STEP 7 — ADD YOUR MESSAGE
Create a little wooden sign saying:
🙏 Count Your Blessings
❤️ Faith • Family • Love
🌻 Grateful Hearts Live Here
🏡 Our Family Story
💜 God Has Been Faithful
My choice for today:
🙏 COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS
Attach it to the bottom or center of your frame.
📖 STEP 8 — ADD A SCRIPTURE
Create one special Scripture card:
"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:"
— Psalm 103:2 (KJV)
Place it right in the center.
Every time someone walks past the display, there's a reminder:
DON'T FORGET WHAT GOD HAS DONE. 💜
👨👩👧👦 STEP 9 — MAKE IT A FAMILY TRADITION
Every Sunday, have each family member add ONE new blessing.
That's it.
Just one.
By Thanksgiving, imagine how many cards you'll have!
At the end of autumn, place the cards in an envelope labeled:
🍂 OUR FAMILY BLESSINGS — 2026
Save them.
Someday you'll look back and remember things you might otherwise have forgotten.
💜 SPECIAL MEMORY IDEA
If someone you love is no longer here, include a photograph of them and write:
“A blessing I will always be thankful for.”
A gratitude display can hold memories of yesterday while still celebrating God's blessings today.
💰 SUNDAY $5 CHALLENGE!
Today's challenge:
Can you spend $5 OR LESS?
Better yet...
CAN YOU MAKE IT FREE?
Use an old frame.
Use photographs you already have.
Cut up leftover cardstock.
Reuse florals.
Use scrap ribbon.
Pick up a little fallen twig for a natural accent.
Meaning doesn't have to cost money.
🍂 CHANGE IT WITH THE SEASONS!
Keep your window display up all year.
🌷 Spring — Family goals & answered prayers
🇺🇸 Summer — Vacation photographs & memories
🍂 Autumn — Gratitude & harvest blessings
🎄 Christmas — Christmas cards & family pictures
One old window can become a place where your family's story continues growing.
💜 SUNDAY INSPIRATION
We can become so focused on what we're asking God to do next that we forget what He's already done.
Sometimes we need to stop and remember.
The prayer He answered.
The door He opened.
The person He sent.
The provision that came at exactly the right time.
The day we didn't know how we'd make it through—but somehow we did.
Today's craft gives us a visible reminder:
🙏 GOD HAS BEEN FAITHFUL.
"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:"
— Psalm 103:2 (KJV)
🌻 SUNDAY QUESTION
Finish this sentence:
💜 “Today I thank God for __________.”
