Good morning, crafting friends! 💜
After our Labor Day celebration, we're jumping right back into our September Dollar Store Craft Challenge!
Today we're heading to the kitchen aisle and grabbing a few inexpensive wooden spoons.
But we're NOT going to cook with them! 😂
We're transforming ordinary wooden spoons into a beautiful Cozy Cottage Harvest Kitchen Arrangement using paint, fabric scraps, sunflowers, wheat, and thrifted treasures.
This one would look adorable on a kitchen counter, coffee bar, dining-room buffet, or tucked into an old crock.
🛒 WHAT YOU'LL NEED
🥄 3–5 wooden spoons🎨 Chalk or acrylic paint🖌️ Small paintbrushes🧽 Sandpaper — optional🧶 Jute twine🎀 Plaid, gingham, burlap, or lace ribbon🌻 Small faux sunflowers🌾 Wheat stems🍂 Autumn leaves🌿 Greenery🪵 Wooden beads — optional🫙 Thrifted crock, Mason jar, pitcher, or tin can🖌️ Hot glue gun & glue sticks✂️ Scissors
♻️ SHOP YOUR HOUSE FIRST!
Before buying a container, check those cabinets!
Maybe you already have:
🫙 An old Mason jar🥫 A clean food can🪣 Galvanized container🏺 Old crock☕ Large mug🫖 Vintage pitcher
Remember—the container doesn't have to start as décor to become décor!
🥄 STEP 1 — PREPARE YOUR SPOONS
Remove any labels and wipe your wooden spoons clean.
Leave some natural wood showing or paint each spoon a different cozy cottage color.
Try:
🤍 Antique White🌿 Sage Green🤎 Warm Brown💜 Muted Lavender❤️ Country Red
Let them dry completely.
🎨 STEP 2 — GIVE THEM CHARACTER
Lightly distress the painted edges with fine sandpaper.
You can also dry-brush a tiny amount of brown or white paint over the surface.
We want them to look like they've been hanging in Grandma's country kitchen for years. 💜
✍️ STEP 3 — ADD YOUR WORDS
Paint, stencil, or use small transfers to put one word on each spoon.
Try:
🙏 GRATEFUL
🌻 THANKFUL
❤️ BLESSED
🏡 HOME
🍎 GATHER
For five spoons, create:
FAITH • FAMILY • HOME • LOVE • BLESSINGS
Make them personal to YOUR home!
🎀 STEP 4 — ADD COTTAGE DETAILS
Tie a tiny strip of fabric or ribbon around each spoon handle.
Use scraps of:
🤎 Burlap❤️ Gingham🍂 Autumn plaid🤍 Lace
Add a little jute bow or wooden bead if you have some.
Don't make every spoon identical.
Different patterns give the arrangement that wonderful collected-over-time cottage look.
🌻 STEP 5 — CREATE YOUR ARRANGEMENT
Place your finished spoons inside your thrifted crock, jar, pitcher, or repurposed can.
Then tuck between them:
🌻 Sunflowers🌾 Wheat🍂 Autumn leaves🌿 Greenery
Keep the spoons visible!
They're the stars of today's project.
🫙 STEP 6 — DECORATE YOUR CONTAINER
If you're using a plain jar or can, wrap a little burlap or fabric around the center.
Tie it with jute and add a tag saying:
🌻 Harvest Blessings
🙏 Give Thanks
🍎 Gather
🏡 Home Sweet Home
Or leave a beautiful vintage crock exactly as you found it!
🍎 STEP 7 — CREATE A COZY KITCHEN VIGNETTE
Place your arrangement on a thrifted wooden cutting board or tray.
Add a few simple autumn touches around it:
🍎 Fresh or faux apples🌻 Sunflowers🌾 Wheat🧺 Small basket📚 Vintage cookbook🕯️ Flameless candle🍂 Colorful leaves
And suddenly you've created an entire Cozy Cottage Harvest Kitchen Corner! 😍
💡 BONUS IDEA — MAKE THEM AS GIFTS!
Create three spoons that say:
FAITH • HOPE • LOVE
Tie them together with ribbon and add a little Scripture tag.
Or personalize a set with someone's family name.
Pair them with a thrifted crock for an inexpensive handmade housewarming or hostess gift. 💜

Write everyone's name and 2026 on the back.
Then place all the spoons together in one family arrangement.
Someday those inexpensive little spoons could become a precious reminder of time spent creating together.
