✨ RANDOM CRAFT OF THE DAY

🪑 Old Wooden Chair → Cozy Cottage Plant & Reading Stand

Good morning, crafting friends!

Today we're going BIGGER than our usual little craft projects! 😍

We're heading to the thrift store, flea market, estate sale—or maybe even our own garage—and looking for an OLD WOODEN CHAIR.

You know the one...

🪑 Scratched🎨 Outdated paint🪵 Missing its matching table🤎 A little worn💵 Sitting there for just a few dollars

Most people may walk right past it.

BUT WE'RE CRAFTERS! 😂

We're going to turn that forgotten chair into a beautiful Cozy Cottage Plant & Reading Stand.

🛒 WHAT YOU'LL NEED

🪑 Old sturdy wooden chair🧽 Cleaning supplies🪛 Screwdriver🧽 Sandpaper🎨 Furniture or chalk paint🖌️ Paintbrush🌿 Small plant📚 A few books🧺 Small basket🪵 Optional wooden sign🎀 Ribbon or fabric scraps🪝 Optional small hook🕯️ Flameless candle or lantern

♻️ SHOP SECONDHAND FIRST!

Look for chairs at:

🛍️ Thrift stores🏷️ Estate sales🏡 Yard sales🪑 Flea markets📦 Storage cleanouts🚗 Curbside finds where permitted

Don't worry about ugly paint.

We're looking for a chair that's solid and sturdy.

1️⃣ CLEAN & INSPECT YOUR CHAIR

Before doing anything decorative, make sure the chair is structurally sound.

Check:

🔩 Loose screws

🪵 Cracked wood

🪑 Wobbly legs

🔨 Loose joints

Tighten and repair anything necessary.

If the chair isn't structurally safe, use it only as a decorative piece—not as seating.

2️⃣ CHOOSE YOUR COTTAGE COLOR 🎨

Now let's give it a new personality!

Try:

🤍 Antique White

🌿 Sage Green

💜 Dusty Lavender

🩵 Cottage Blue

🤎 Natural Wood

🖤 Classic Black

Or leave the original finish if you love its age and character.

Remember:

Old doesn't mean ugly.

Sometimes old means BEAUTIFUL!

3️⃣ GIVE IT THAT WELL-LOVED LOOK

If you're working with a newer safe finish, lightly distress the edges after painting.

Focus on areas that would naturally show wear:

🪑 Seat edges

🪵 Legs

🤎 Corners

🖐️ Chair back

Don't overdo it.

We're going for Grandma's cottage, not “I attacked this with sandpaper.” 😂

For truly old painted furniture, be cautious about sanding unknown finishes.

4️⃣ TURN THE SEAT INTO A DISPLAY

Now the fun begins!

Place a pretty plant on the seat.

Try:

🌿 Ivy

🪴 Fern

💜 Lavender

🌱 Pothos

🌸 Seasonal flowers

Place the pot inside a little thrifted crock, basket, or galvanized container.

Add a folded piece of vintage fabric underneath.

Suddenly our old chair isn't looking so forgotten anymore! 😍

5️⃣ CREATE A LITTLE READING CORNER 📚

Stack two or three thrifted books beside your plant.

Add:

👓 Reading glasses

📖 Devotional

🙏 Bible

☕ Favorite mug

🕯️ Flameless candle

Now you've created a sweet little quiet-time corner.

Place the chair beside your favorite reading chair and use it like a tiny side table.

6️⃣ USE THE CHAIR BACK!

Don't forget all that vertical space!

Hang a small sign from the chair back:

💜 Be Still

🏡 Stay Awhile

🙏 Faith Over Fear

🌿 Simply Blessed

Sit • Sip • Stay

📖 Be still, and know that I am God.

Or hang a tiny wreath or little basket of greenery.

7️⃣ ADD A LITTLE SIDE HOOK

If your chair design allows it, attach a small decorative hook to the SIDE or back.

Use it for:

🧺 Small basket

🔑 Keys

🌿 Tiny hanging plant

📿 Prayer beads or keepsake

🧣 Lightweight scarf

Don't hang anything heavy.

8️⃣ STYLE YOUR NEW TREASURE!

Use your finished chair:

📚 Beside a reading chair

🌿 In a sunroom

🚪 Near the entryway

🛏️ Beside a guest bed

🙏 In a prayer corner

🧵 In your craft room

🪴 On a covered porch if appropriately protected

You could even place a basket underneath for extra storage!

💡 WAIT... DON'T HAVE A PLANT?

Turn the SAME chair into something completely different!

☕ COFFEE CORNER

Mug + coffee sign + little basket

🧵 CRAFT STATION

Yarn + scissors + fabric

🛁 BATHROOM STAND

Towels + soap + greenery

📖 PRAYER CHAIR DISPLAY

Bible + journal + Scripture cards

🧺 GUEST ROOM STAND

Towels + toiletries + welcome note

🌿 PLANT STAND

Fill it with your favorite greenery!

ONE OLD CHAIR — SO MANY POSSIBILITIES!

💰 WEDNESDAY $15 THRIFT CHALLENGE!

Today's challenge is a little different.

Find a wooden chair for $15 OR LESS!

Then try to finish the makeover using supplies you already have.

🎨 Leftover paint

🪴 Plant you already own

📚 Old books

🧺 Thrifted basket

🎀 Fabric scraps

🪵 Scrap wood

And if you find a chair for $5...

YOU GET EXTRA THRIFTING BRAGGING RIGHTS! 😂🙌

💜 TODAY'S INSPIRATION

One reason I love thrift stores is that they're filled with things that have already had a story.

An old chair may have once sat around someone's kitchen table.

Maybe children climbed onto it.

Maybe Grandma sat there drinking coffee.

Maybe family gathered around it for Sunday dinner.

We may never know its first story.

But when we rescue it and give it another purpose...

WE GET TO HELP WRITE ITS NEXT CHAPTER. 💜

And isn't that what repurposing is all about?

Taking something that still has life left in it and giving it another chance to be useful and beautiful.

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:"

— Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV)

🪑 QUESTION OF THE DAY!

You find an old wooden chair for $5 at a yard sale.

WHAT ARE YOU TURNING IT INTO?

🌿 Plant stand

☕ Coffee station

📚 Reading stand

🙏 Prayer corner

🧵 Craft organizer

🛁 Bathroom shelf

🎨 Something completely different!

Tell us your idea!

And even better...

📸 SHOW US YOUR LATEST TREASURE!

Did you go thrifting this week?

Find something at an estate sale?

Finish a craft?

Rescue a piece of furniture?

POST IT!

Sometimes all someone needs is to see YOUR idea before they realize what they can do with something sitting in their own garage. 💜

BEFORE YOU PASS IT BY, ASK:

“WHAT COULD THIS BECOME?”

THRIFT IT. ♻️ REPURPOSE IT. 🔨 CREATE IT. 🎨 LOVE IT. 💜
