🪣 Dollar Store Galvanized Bucket → Cozy Cottage Harvest Welcome Planter
Good morning, crafting friends! 💜
Who's ready to turn another simple Dollar Store find into something beautiful?
Today we're looking for a small galvanized bucket, metal planter, or inexpensive tin container and transforming it into a gorgeous Cozy Cottage Harvest Welcome Planter! 🌻🌾
This is an easy project for your porch, entryway, kitchen, hearth, or covered patio—and you can change it with the seasons instead of making something new every few months.
Let's get crafting! 🎨
🛒 WHAT YOU'LL NEED
🪣 Galvanized bucket, planter, or metal container🌻 Faux sunflowers🌾 Wheat stems🍂 Autumn leaves🌿 Eucalyptus or greenery🍎 Apple picks or berries🎀 Burlap, gingham, plaid, or lace ribbon🪵 Small wooden tag or sign🧶 Jute twine🧱 Floral foam or repurposed packing foam🖌️ Chalk or acrylic paint — optional🧽 Sponge or paintbrush✂️ Scissors🖌️ Hot glue gun — optional
💰 SHOP YOUR HOUSE FIRST!
Before heading to the store, check:
🌻 Old floral arrangements🎀 Leftover ribbon📦 Packing foam🪵 Scrap wood🌿 Greenery from another project🪣 An old bucket in the garage
You may already own half of today's supplies!
🪣 STEP 1 — PREPARE YOUR BUCKET
Remove stickers and clean your container thoroughly.
Like the shiny galvanized finish?
LEAVE IT!
Want something softer?
Lightly paint or dry-brush it with:
🤍 Antique White🌿 Sage Green🤎 Warm Taupe💜 Muted Lavender
You don't need complete coverage.
Allowing a little metal to show through creates a beautiful aged farmhouse appearance.
🎨 STEP 2 — GIVE IT SOME CHARACTER
Use a dry sponge with a tiny amount of brown, white, or gray paint.
Lightly dab around the edges and raised areas.
The goal isn't to make it look dirty.
We're simply taking away that brand-new appearance and creating something that feels collected over time.
🪵 STEP 3 — ADD YOUR HARVEST MESSAGE
Create a little wooden tag or use a Dollar Store craft plaque.
Write:
🌻 Harvest Blessings
🙏 Grateful & Blessed
🏡 Welcome Home
🌾 Gather Together
❤️ Give Thanks
Tie it around the handle with jute.
My favorite for today:
🌻 HARVEST BLESSINGS
🌿 STEP 4 — BUILD YOUR GREENERY BASE
Place floral foam or clean repurposed packing foam inside the bucket.
Start with your greenery.
Insert stems around the back and sides.
Let a few pieces spill naturally over the edge.
Don't worry about perfect symmetry!
We want that relaxed country cottage garden feeling.
🌻 STEP 5 — ADD THE SUNFLOWERS
Now add your largest flowers.
Place one tall sunflower near the center or slightly off-center.
Add two or three smaller blooms at different heights.
CRAFTING TIP:
Odd numbers—like 3 or 5 flowers—often make arrangements feel more natural.
🌾 STEP 6 — ADD YOUR HARVEST TEXTURES
Fill the empty spaces with:
🌾 Wheat🍂 Autumn leaves🍎 Apple picks🌿 Greenery🍒 Berry stems🌲 Pinecones
Don't feel like you need ALL of them.
Use whatever you already have!
🎀 STEP 7 — ADD A COZY COTTAGE BOW
Tie a bow around the handle using:
🤎 Burlap❤️ Country Gingham🍂 Autumn Plaid🤍 Lace
You can layer two ribbons together for extra texture.
Tuck a little wheat or greenery into the center.
🏡 STEP 8 — CREATE YOUR DISPLAY!
Your bucket is finished!
Now place it:
🚪 Beside your front door
🔥 Near the fireplace
🪜 Beside a blanket ladder
🍽️ On a dining buffet
☕ Near your coffee bar
🏡 In the entryway
For a larger display, surround it with:
🧺 An old basket🍎 Apples🕯️ Flameless lantern🌾 Wheat📚 Vintage books🎃 Plain natural harvest pumpkins
And suddenly you've created a beautiful Cozy Cottage Harvest Corner! 🌻
♻️ ONE BUCKET — FOUR SEASONS!
Here's why I LOVE projects like this.
Don't permanently glue your flowers into the arrangement.
When autumn ends, simply change the stems!
🎄 Christmas: Pine, berries & ribbon
❄️ Winter: Evergreen & white branches
🌷 Spring: Tulips & greenery
🇺🇸 Summer: Daisies & patriotic ribbon
🌻 Autumn: Sunflowers, wheat & leaves
ONE BUCKET. YEAR-ROUND DECORATING!
That's good crafting AND good budgeting! 🙌
💰 WEDNESDAY $7 CHALLENGE!
Today's challenge:
Can you make this for $7 or LESS?
Bonus challenge:
Buy ONLY the bucket and use supplies you already own for everything else!
Take apart an old floral arrangement.
Reuse yesterday's ribbon.
Cut your tag from scrap wood.
Use packing foam instead of buying floral foam.
♻️ USE IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT!
💜 TODAY'S INSPIRATION
I love harvest decorating because it reminds me of abundance, provision, and gratitude.
It doesn't have to be elaborate.
A simple bucket filled with sunflowers and wheat can remind us to appreciate the beauty already surrounding us.
Sometimes we spend so much time looking for the next thing that we forget to be thankful for what God has already placed in our hands.
"The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein."
— Psalm 24:1 (KJV)
🌻 QUESTION OF THE DAY
