Good morning, crafting friends! 💜🍁
We're starting this Monday with a beautiful fall thrift flip!
If you've ever been to an estate sale, flea market, or architectural salvage shop, you've probably seen old windows leaning against a wall. Some have peeling paint, missing panes, or years of wear.
And THAT is exactly the kind we want! 😍
Today we're turning an old window into a gorgeous Cozy Fall Cottage Welcome Sign that can be displayed on a porch, mantel, entryway, or leaning against a wall.
🛍️ LET'S GO THRIFTING!
Look for:
🪟 An old wooden window frame🪵 Scrap wood🌻 Faux sunflowers🍂 Fall leaves🌿 Eucalyptus or greenery🎃 Mini pumpkins🌾 Wheat stems🎀 Burlap, gingham, or plaid ribbon🏷️ Wooden letters or an old sign🕯️ Optional flameless lantern
Thrifting Tip: Don't automatically reject a window because the glass is missing. An empty frame may actually be easier—and safer—to turn into décor!
🧽 STEP 1 — CLEAN & CHECK YOUR WINDOW
Clean the frame thoroughly and make sure it's sturdy.
If you're working with a genuinely old painted window, be cautious about sanding unknown paint because vintage finishes may contain lead. You can preserve that aged character by cleaning it and sealing the existing finish instead.
Those chips and worn edges can be BEAUTIFUL! 🤎
🪵 STEP 2 — CREATE YOUR SIGN
Use scrap wood across the center of the window and paint:
