šÆļø Thrifted Lantern ā Cozy Fall Centerpiece
Good morning, crafting friends! šš
Today weāre taking one of those old lanterns you often see at thrift stores, estate sales, and yard sales and turning it into a gorgeous Cozy Fall Lantern Centerpiece!
This one is warm, rustic, inexpensive, and easy to change with the seasons.
š§ŗ What Youāll Need
Thrifted lantern
Flameless candle
Wood slice, tray, or shallow basket
Spanish moss or preserved moss
Mini pumpkins
Pinecones and acorns
Faux sunflowers
Fall leaves
Berry stems
Greenery
Burlap, lace, plaid, or gingham ribbon
Floral wire or zip ties
Hot glue gun
Wire cutters
Optional paint or chalk paint
š Step 1 ā Clean & Prepare Your Lantern
Wipe down your lantern and remove any dust or dirt.
If you love the aged finish, leave it exactly as it is!
If it needs a refresh, try antique white, matte black, sage green, or a lightly distressed finish.
Let everything dry completely before decorating.
šŖµ Step 2 ā Create Your Base
Place the lantern on a wood slice, vintage tray, or shallow basket.
Tuck Spanish moss around the bottom of the lantern to soften the edges and create a natural foundation.
This also helps your pumpkins and pinecones stay in place.
š Step 3 ā Add the Larger Fall Pieces
Begin with your biggest decorations.
Place two or three mini pumpkins around the lantern.
Then add pinecones, acorns, or small gourds.
Try placing items at slightly different heights instead of making everything perfectly even.
š» Step 4 ā Add Your Flowers & Greenery
Now bring in the color!
Tuck in:
š» Sunflowersš Autumn leavesšæ Eucalyptusš Berry stemsš¾ Wheat or dried grasses
Start with your taller stems toward the back and sides.
Use smaller pieces toward the front.
Let some greenery spill naturally over the edge for that cozy cottage look.
š Step 5 ā Decorate the Top
Create a big layered bow using two or three textures.
Try:
š¤ Burlapš¤ Buffalo checkš§” Fall plaidš¤ Laceš» Sunflower ribbon
Secure your bow near the top of the lantern with floral wire or a removable tie.
Add a sunflower, leaves, or berry pick to the center.
šÆļø Step 6 ā Add the Glow
Place a flameless battery-operated candleĀ inside the lantern.
Once evening comes, turn it on and enjoy that beautiful warm glow!
Flameless candles are especially nice for arrangements with fabric, dried materials, and faux florals.
š·ļø Step 7 ā Add a Little Message
For an extra personal touch, add a small tag or sign that says:
š Hello Fall
š» Harvest Blessings
š Thankful & Blessed
š” Welcome Home
š Grateful ⢠Thankful ⢠Blessed
ā»ļø Donāt Make It Permanent!
Whenever possible, use floral wire, removable ties, or loosely tucked stems instead of gluing everything permanently.
Then your lantern can become:
š Christmas ā pine, berries, bells, and plaid
š· Spring ā tulips, greenery, and pastel ribbon
šŗšø Summer ā patriotic flowers and flags
š Fall ā pumpkins, sunflowers, wheat, and leaves
One thrifted lantern can decorate your home all year long!
