Today, we're heading back to the thrift store—or maybe just digging through our kitchen cabinets—to find something we can turn into beautiful home décor!
Have you ever seen those old wooden cutting boards at estate sales or thrift stores? Some have scratches, stains, or handles that make them look like they've been around for generations.
Well, DON'T PASS THEM BY!
Today we're turning an old wooden cutting board into a beautiful Cozy Cottage Autumn Wall Hanging using sunflowers, vintage lace, greenery, and a little Scripture.
This is one of those projects that looks beautiful hanging in the kitchen, dining room, entryway, or beside your coffee bar.
And the best part? You can create it for very little money!
🛒 WHAT YOU'LL NEED
🪵 Old wooden cutting board
🎨 Chalk or acrylic paint (optional)
🖌️ Paintbrush
🧽 Sandpaper (optional)
🌻 Faux sunflowers
🌾 Wheat stems
🌿 Greenery or eucalyptus
🎀 Vintage lace, gingham, or burlap ribbon
🧶 Jute twine
🪵 Small wooden tag
✏️ Paint pen or stencil
🔥 Hot glue gun and glue sticks
✂️ Scissors
Thrifting tip: Look for cutting boards with unusual shapes, handles, or natural wood grain. Those little details make your finished project even more beautiful!
🔨 STEP-BY-STEP DIRECTIONS
STEP 1
Find your cutting board
Look through your cabinets, thrift stores, flea markets, and estate sales.
Choose a board with a sturdy handle or hanging hole.
Clean it thoroughly and allow it to dry.
Since we're turning this into decorative wall art, set it aside for décor only rather than using it for food preparation.
STEP 2
Give it a cottage makeover
Leave the natural wood showing or paint it:
🤍 Antique White
🌿 Sage Green
💜 Dusty Lavender
🤎 Warm Brown
🩵 Cottage Blue
If you paint the board, allow it to dry completely.
Lightly distress the edges if you'd like a vintage farmhouse appearance.
STEP 3
Add your autumn message
Use a stencil, paint pen, or small wooden plaque.
Choose a saying:

🍂 Gather Together
❤️ Grateful & Blessed
🏡 Bless This Home
🌾 Give Thanks

STEP 4
Create your sunflower bundle
Gather a few small sunflowers, wheat stems, and greenery.
Arrange them at different heights.
Tie the stems together using jute twine.
Attach the bundle near the top or lower corner of your cutting board.
Keep the flowers to one side so your message remains visible.
STEP 5
Add vintage cottage charm
Tie a small bow using:
🤍 Vintage lace
🤎 Burlap
❤️ Autumn plaid
💜 Muted lavender ribbon
Attach it over the floral stems.
You can also wrap a little jute around the cutting board handle for extra texture.
STEP 6
Add a Scripture tag
Create a small tag with today's Scripture:
"O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever."
Psalm 107:1 (KJV)
Attach the tag beneath your flowers or let it hang from the handle.

I love taking old things and giving them a new purpose.

And isn't that what life is about?
Sometimes we get so busy looking at what we don't have that we forget to appreciate what God has already blessed us with.
A home filled with love.
A family to pray for.
A friend who checks on us.
A warm cup of coffee.
Another day to serve the Lord.
We don't have to have everything we want to be thankful for what we have.
And sometimes the simplest things become our greatest treasures. 💜
