Finding Possibilities in Everyday Treasures!
🌻 CRAFT OF THE DAY
Vintage Tray → Beautiful Fall Welcome Door Hanger!
Good morning, crafting friends! 💜
Today we're taking something you might walk right past at a thrift store and turning it into a beautiful piece of autumn home décor!
Have you ever spotted one of those old metal serving trays at a yard sale, estate sale, or thrift store? Maybe it's scratched, outdated, or just not your style.
Well, DON'T PASS IT BY! 😂
With a little paint, some sunflowers, ribbon, and creativity, we're transforming an ordinary tray into a gorgeous Fall Welcome Door Hanger!
This project is perfect for anyone who loves farmhouse, cozy cottage, and harvest-inspired decorating without spending a fortune.
And remember, our goal is to find hidden treasures and create something beautiful on a budget!
🛒 WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Old metal serving tray
Chalk or acrylic paint (optional)
Paintbrush
Small wooden sign or paint marker
Faux sunflowers
Autumn leaves and greenery
Wheat stems or berry picks
Burlap, gingham, or plaid ribbon
Jute twine or sturdy hanging cord
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Floral wire
Small plain harvest pumpkin (optional)
Budget tip: Before heading to Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Hobby Lobby, or Michaels, check your craft stash! You may already have leftover ribbon, florals, and paint from previous projects.
🎨 STEP-BY-STEP DIRECTIONS
STEP 1: FIND YOUR HIDDEN GEM!
Look for a lightweight metal tray with a raised edge or handles.
Don't worry about scratches or an outdated finish. Those are things we can work with!
Clean your tray thoroughly and allow it to dry.
STEP 2: GIVE IT A MAKEOVER
Leave the original metal finish if you love the vintage look.
Or paint it one of these beautiful cottage colors:
🤍 Antique White
🌿 Sage Green
💜 Dusty Lavender
🤎 Warm Brown
Allow the paint to dry completely.
If desired, lightly distress the edges for a vintage farmhouse appearance.
STEP 3: ADD YOUR WELCOME MESSAGE
Create a small wooden sign or use a paint marker to add a message to the center of your tray.
Some beautiful choices:
🌻 Welcome
🍂 Harvest Blessings
🏡 Welcome to Our Home
🙏 Grateful & Blessed
❤️ Gather Together
For today's project, we're using a simple WELCOME sign with a little wooden heart.
STEP 4: CREATE YOUR AUTUMN ARRANGEMENT
Gather your sunflowers, wheat, autumn leaves, and greenery.
Arrange them along one side or across the top of your tray.
Use floral wire or hot glue to secure everything.
Keep the center open so your welcome message remains visible.
STEP 5: ADD YOUR COTTAGE CHARM
Now for the finishing touches!
Tie a beautiful bow using burlap, gingham, or plaid ribbon.
Add a small plain harvest pumpkin, berries, or a few extra leaves if you'd like.
Remember, you don't have to use everything.
Sometimes a sunflower, a little greenery, and a pretty bow are all you need!
STEP 6: CREATE YOUR HANGER
If your tray has handles, use sturdy jute or rope to create a hanger.
If it doesn't, attach appropriate hanging hardware securely to the back.
Make sure everything is stable before displaying it.
For an exterior door, use weather-resistant materials and a protected location.
And there you have it!
A beautiful autumn welcome decoration made from something someone else may have overlooked! 🌻
💰 TODAY'S $10 CHALLENGE!
Can you create this entire project for $10 or less?
Try finding your tray for $2–$5 and using supplies you already own.
Maybe you have sunflowers left over from another arrangement.
Maybe there's ribbon tucked away in a drawer.
Maybe you already have paint and a little wooden sign.
The challenge isn't how much we can spend.
It's how much beauty we can create with what we already have!
💡 BONUS IDEA!
Don't want to hang your tray on a door?
Turn it into:
🏡 A wall decoration
🍎 A fall table centerpiece
☕ Coffee bar décor
🎁 A handmade gift
🌻 A seasonal kitchen display
One hidden treasure can have so many possibilities!
💜 TODAY'S INSPIRATION
You know, one of the things I love most about thrifting is that you never know what you're going to find.
Something that looks ordinary to one person may be exactly what another person has been searching for.
And sometimes, all it takes is a little imagination to see what something could become.
I think life can be that way too.
God sees possibilities where we sometimes see limitations.
He can take the pieces of our lives, even the ones that seem worn or forgotten, and create something beautiful.
Never underestimate what God can do with something that has been given a second chance.
📖 TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
"Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;"
Ephesians 5:1 (KJV)
May we remember to reflect His love in everything we do, even in the simple ways we welcome others into our homes. 💜
