A Christian Reflection on Halloween
As a believer, I’ve been reflecting deeply on what it means to truly live a life set apart for Christ.
I’ll be honest — when my children were little, I took them trick-or-treating. I saw it as harmless fun and a way to make memories. But as I’ve grown in my walk with the Lord, I’ve learned to look beyond what the world calls “fun” and ask, “Does this honor God?”
Halloween may seem innocent — costumes, candy, decorations — but when we look deeper, we see that its roots are far from godly. Its origins trace back to pagan rituals and celebrations of the dead, practices that God’s Word clearly warns us against. Over time, the enemy has disguised it as harmless entertainment, but beneath the surface lies a celebration of fear, darkness, and things God tells us to avoid.
I’m not here to condemn anyone who celebrates Halloween — I once did too. But I encourage you to research the origins, pray for discernment, and ask the Lord what He would have you do.
God’s Word gives us clear direction:
📖 Ephesians 5:11 (KJV)
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”
📖 Romans 12:2 (KJV)
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
📖 Deuteronomy 18:10–12 (KJV)
“There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch... For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord.”
📖 1 Thessalonians 5:22 (KJV)
“Abstain from all appearance of evil.”
📖 2 Corinthians 6:14–17 (KJV)
“For what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?... Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord.”
📖 James 4:4 (KJV)
“Know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”
📖 1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
As Christians, we are called to walk in light, not darkness. We serve a living God who conquered death — why would we celebrate what glorifies it?
Instead of participating in Halloween, consider ways to bring light into your community — host a Harvest Festival, a Hallelujah Night, or a Family Worship Night where you can still bless children and families, but do it in a way that glorifies Jesus Christ.
Let’s stand firm in faith, not out of fear, but out of reverence for our Lord and Savior.
🕊️ Joshua 24:15 (KJV)
“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
