📖 Today's Theme Scripture — Galatians 5:22–23 (KJV)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

☕ GOOD MORNING & HAPPY SATURDAY!

I was thinking this morning about fruit trees.

You can look at a tree and see beautiful green leaves. It may be tall, strong, and healthy-looking, but if it is supposed to produce apples, eventually you expect to see some apples!

Now, you wouldn't expect a tree planted yesterday to be covered in fruit today.

It takes time.

It takes water.

It takes sunshine.

It takes nourishment.

And sometimes it takes pruning.

Our Christian walk is much the same.

When we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, something begins changing inside us. We may not notice every change immediately, but as we continue walking with Him, there should be evidence of His work in our lives.

Not because we're trying to impress people.

Not because we're trying to earn our salvation.

But because the Holy Spirit is working within us.

A CHANGED HEART SHOULD BEGIN PRODUCING A CHANGED LIFE.

Yesterday we talked about choosing integrity even when nobody is watching.

Today we're going to look at the fruit our lives are producing.

Because friend, the question isn't simply:

“Do I know about Jesus?”

The question is:

“Is my relationship with Jesus changing the way I live?”

🌳 1. FRUIT REVEALS WHAT IS GROWING INSIDE

Jesus said in Matthew 7:20:

“Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”

We can say many things about our faith.

We can attend church.

We can share Scripture.

We can listen to Christian music.

We can post beautiful devotionals.

But the question remains:

What is growing in our hearts?

Are we becoming more loving?

Are we learning patience?

Are we more willing to forgive?

Are we becoming gentler with people?

Are we developing self-control?

Or are we allowing bitterness, jealousy, anger, and pride to take root?

Now, don't misunderstand me.

We are not saved by producing enough good fruit.

We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

But when we belong to Him, His Spirit begins producing something different within us.

The fruit doesn't purchase our salvation.

The fruit gives evidence of the One who is changing us.

🍇 2. THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

Let's look at the nine qualities listed in Galatians 5:22–23.

❤️ LOVE

Love chooses to care for others even when it isn't convenient.

It doesn't mean approving everything someone does or allowing mistreatment. It means allowing God's love to guide how we respond.

Am I becoming more loving—or more critical?

🌻 JOY

Joy is deeper than having a good day.

We can experience grief, disappointment, and difficult circumstances while still knowing that our hope is in Jesus.

Am I allowing circumstances to steal my confidence in God?

🕊️ PEACE

Peace doesn't mean there are no problems.

It means we know where to take our problems.

Am I carrying everything myself—or giving my burdens to the Lord?

⏳ LONGSUFFERING

This is patience that continues when things are difficult.

Patience with people.

Patience in waiting.

Patience when God's timing doesn't match ours.

Am I learning to wait without allowing frustration to control me?

🌸 GENTLENESS

Gentleness doesn't mean weakness.

Sometimes it takes tremendous strength to answer softly when someone has spoken harshly.

Do my words help heal—or add to the hurt?

🌿 GOODNESS

Goodness is choosing what is right and doing good toward others.

It is not merely knowing what we should do.

It is putting that knowledge into action.

Am I looking for opportunities to do good?

🛡️ FAITH

Faithfulness is remaining true to God and dependable in our walk with Him.

We continue trusting, obeying, and following Jesus even when life becomes difficult.

Am I faithful only when things are going well?

💜 MEEKNESS

Meekness is strength under control.

It allows us to remain humble, receive correction, and treat others with respect.

Can I admit when I'm wrong without becoming defensive?

⚖️ TEMPERANCE

Temperance is self-control.

It means our emotions, desires, habits, and impulses do not have to control every decision.

Am I allowing the Holy Spirit to guide my responses?

🌱 3. FRUIT TAKES TIME TO GROW

Friend, I want to encourage somebody today.

Maybe you're reading this list and thinking:

“I still struggle with patience.”

“I still get angry.”

“I still worry.”

“I still have trouble forgiving.”

Welcome to the growing process!

We are not going to become spiritually mature overnight.

Think about that fruit tree again.

You don't plant it on Monday and become disappointed on Tuesday because there are no apples.

You water it.

You care for it.

You give it time.

You allow it to grow.

The same is true in our walk with Jesus.

DON'T CONFUSE SLOW GROWTH WITH NO GROWTH.

But also, don't become comfortable refusing to grow.

Keep allowing God to work.

✂️ 4. SOMETIMES GOD HAS TO PRUNE US

John 15:2 says:

“Every branch in me that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.”

Have you ever watched someone prune a beautiful plant?

Sometimes it looks like they're cutting away too much!

But an experienced gardener understands that removing certain branches can help the plant become healthier and more fruitful.

Sometimes God begins showing us things that need to be removed from our lives.

A habit.

A wrong attitude.

Bitterness.

Pride.

An unhealthy influence.

A distraction that has taken too much of our attention.

Something we've been holding onto that is keeping us from growing closer to Him.

And sometimes we resist.

“Lord, I like that part of my life!”

But God sees what we cannot.

SOMETIMES WHAT WE'RE HOLDING ONTO IS KEEPING US FROM WHAT GOD WANTS TO GROW IN US.

🛡️ 5. THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS AND THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

We've spent this week studying righteousness.

We learned that our righteousness comes through Jesus Christ.

We learned to guard our hearts.

We learned to live differently.

We learned to confess and repent when we sin.

We learned to choose integrity.

Now we see how those lessons connect.

The Breastplate of Righteousness isn't simply something we talk about.

It should influence our daily walk.

When someone irritates us, do we respond with patience?

When someone hurts us, do we ask God to help us forgive?

When we're tempted, do we practice self-control?

When life becomes difficult, do we continue trusting God?

When someone needs help, do we show goodness?

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT SHOULD BECOME VISIBLE IN THE WAY WE WEAR OUR ARMOR.

🌿 6. YOU CANNOT PRODUCE SPIRITUAL FRUIT APART FROM JESUS

Jesus said in John 15:5:

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

This is one of the most important parts of today's study.

A branch doesn't produce fruit by separating itself from the tree and trying harder.

It produces fruit because it remains connected to its source of life.

We need to remain connected to Jesus.

Through prayer.

Through Scripture.

Through obedience.

Through worship.

Through repentance.

Through spending time in His presence.

We cannot simply decide to manufacture spiritual fruit through willpower.

WE NEED THE HOLY SPIRIT WORKING WITHIN US.

❤️ 7. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ALLOW TO GROW

Yesterday we talked about integrity.

Earlier this week, we talked about guarding our hearts.

Today those lessons come together.

Whatever we continue feeding will influence what grows.

If we constantly feed bitterness, bitterness grows.

If we constantly rehearse offenses, resentment grows.

If we constantly compare ourselves with others, jealousy may grow.

But when we fill our hearts with God's Word, prayer, gratitude, and obedience, we make room for the Spirit's work.

Ask yourself:

“WHAT AM I WATERING IN MY LIFE?”

Are you watering faith or fear?

Gratitude or complaining?

Forgiveness or bitterness?

Peace or constant conflict?

Love or resentment?

Friend, we need to be careful what we're helping grow.

🌻 8. DON'T COMPARE YOUR FRUIT WITH SOMEONE ELSE'S

I want to share something else that's important.

We can become so busy looking at someone else's spiritual growth that we stop paying attention to our own.

We see someone who seems patient all the time.

Someone who knows Scripture so well.

Someone who always seems joyful.

Someone who appears to have everything together.

And we begin thinking:

“Why am I not like that?”

But you don't know every battle they've faced.

You don't know every lesson God has taught them.

You don't know what their growing process has looked like.

And you don't need to become a copy of another Christian.

YOU NEED TO KEEP BECOMING MORE LIKE JESUS.

Let God work in your life.

Celebrate the growth He is producing in others.

And thank Him for what He is growing in you.

💜 9. YOUR FRUIT CAN BECOME SOMEONE ELSE'S ENCOURAGEMENT

Think about the people you encounter every day.

Your family.

Your coworkers.

Your neighbors.

The cashier at the store.

The person sitting beside you at church.

The stranger who may be having the worst day of their life.

You may never know how much a gentle word matters.

How much patience matters.

How much kindness matters.

How much forgiveness matters.

How much a peaceful response matters.

Sometimes people experience a little glimpse of Jesus through the way we treat them.

Not because we are the Savior.

But because we belong to Him.

LET THE FRUIT GOD IS GROWING IN YOU BECOME A BLESSING TO SOMEBODY ELSE.

1. What fruit of the Spirit do I see growing in my life?

2. Which fruit do I need to ask God to help me develop?

3. Am I more patient than I was a year ago?

4. Am I allowing bitterness or resentment to take root?

5. Is there something God has been trying to prune from my life?

6. Am I staying connected to Jesus daily?

7. What am I feeding most—faith or fear, gratitude or complaining?

8. Am I comparing my spiritual growth with someone else's?

9. Does my family see the fruit of the Spirit in the way I treat them?

10. How can I allow God's love to become visible through me today?

🙏 TODAY'S PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for another beautiful day and another opportunity to grow closer to You.

Lord, search my heart today.

Show me the fruit that is growing in my life.

And show me anything that is keeping me from becoming more like Jesus.

If bitterness is growing, help me replace it with forgiveness.

If impatience is growing, teach me longsuffering.

If fear is controlling me, strengthen my faith.

If pride is taking root, teach me humility.

If my words have become harsh, help me speak with gentleness.

If my desires are leading me away from You, help me practice self-control.

Father, prune away anything that is keeping me from growing spiritually.

Even when the pruning is uncomfortable, help me trust Your loving hands.

Remind me that I cannot produce spiritual fruit apart from You.

Help me remain connected to Jesus through prayer, Scripture, and obedience.

May my life produce fruit that brings glory to Your name.

And may someone experience Your love today through the way I treat them.

Help me fasten the Belt of Truth and wear the Breastplate of Righteousness.

My prayer and one step I can take:

Copy my reflection

Then pray:

“LORD, HELP ME GROW IN THIS AREA.”

Choose one practical way to exercise that fruit today.

If you chose patience, practice patience when something doesn't go your way.

If you chose gentleness, respond kindly when someone irritates you.

If you chose love, do something thoughtful for someone who cannot repay you.

If you chose self-control, say no to something that has been controlling you.

DON'T JUST STUDY THE FRUIT—ALLOW GOD TO GROW IT.

🌟 TODAY'S ENCOURAGEMENT

Friend, maybe you aren't where you want to be spiritually.

Maybe you're still learning patience.

Still learning forgiveness.

Still learning to trust.

Still learning to control your reactions.

Still learning to surrender.

Don't give up.

A fruit tree doesn't stop growing because yesterday's fruit wasn't ripe.

It continues drawing nourishment from its roots.

KEEP YOUR ROOTS IN JESUS.

Keep praying.

Keep studying.

Keep obeying.

Keep repenting when you stumble.

Keep allowing God to prune what doesn't belong.

And keep growing.

One day you may look back and realize:

“LORD, I DON'T RESPOND THE WAY I USED TO.”

And that, my friend, is a beautiful testimony of His grace.

🌻 CLOSING THOUGHT

I want to leave you with this today.

We can decorate a tree.

We can hang beautiful things on its branches.

We can make it look wonderful from a distance.

But decorations are not fruit.

And sometimes we do the same thing spiritually.

We decorate our lives with Christian words, Christian posts, Christian music, and Christian activities.

Those things can be good.

But God wants something deeper.

He wants to change our hearts.

He wants to produce love where bitterness once lived.

Peace where fear once ruled.

Patience where anger once controlled us.

Gentleness where harshness once lived.

Faithfulness where compromise once had a home.

Self-control where temptation once made every decision.

GOD DOESN'T JUST WANT TO DECORATE OUR LIVES WITH RELIGION.

HE WANTS TO GROW THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT WITHIN US.

So today, don't just ask:

“DO I LOOK LIKE A CHRISTIAN?”

Ask:

“LORD, AM I BECOMING MORE LIKE JESUS?”

And then allow Him to keep working.

CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART

Lord, Start With Me

Tomorrow we conclude our week studying the Breastplate of Righteousness with David's prayer from Psalm 51.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”— Psalm 51:10 (KJV)

We'll talk about asking God to search our hearts, remove what doesn't belong, restore our joy, and renew our desire to walk closely with Him.
