Are You Connecting The Dots?

Day 36

ARE YOU CONNECTING THE DOTS?

[Scheduled Reading: Isaiah 48-66]

I’m beginning to see why Bible students love the prophets.

Are you?

They’re loaded with connect-the-dot moments.

Reading the prophets can be like searching for seashells on the beach. There’s LOTS of them. And just when you find a pretty one, there’s another… and then another… and another…

Let’s marvel at a few of them:

Isaiah 53 - references to Christ, the coming Messiah, all throughout this chapter

Isaiah 59:17 - you wonder where Apostle Paul got some of his teaching material for the “armor of God” teaching at Ephesians 6:13-17?

Isaiah 60:11,19,20 - references to heaven also at Revelation 21

Isaiah 65:17-25 - weaves in and out of references to the new heavens, new earth

Isaiah 61:1, 2 - the very passage Jesus quotes when he stands in the temple to read from the scroll of the prophet Isaiah (Luke 4:17-19) - very cool!

Isaiah 66:1,2 - the passage Stephen quotes from his speech just before he is being stoned (in Acts 7:49,50)

Once again, before the New Testament books were written, what were the New Testament writers and characters reading?

Answer: the prophets.

Congratulations. You’ve now finished the first, and longest, of the five “major prophets.”
