🎄 Daily Devotional: “Grace for a Different Kind of Holiday”
Scripture:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul…”— Psalm 23:1–3 (KJV)
Holidays after loss feel different. The traditions shift. The table looks unfamiliar. The sounds of celebration can feel too loud, and the quiet moments can feel too silent.
You may wonder how to move through a season that once brought joy but now carries a mixture of love, longing, and heartache.Take heart—coping doesn’t mean “forgetting,” and it certainly doesn’t mean “being strong” every second.Coping means allowing God to guide you gently through this season, one tender breath at a time.
Here are truths for your heart today:
1. It’s okay to celebrate differently.Your traditions may change, and that’s alright. Love can be honored in new ways.
2. It’s okay to feel joy and sorrow together.Grief and gratitude can share the same day. Joy doesn’t betray the one you miss.
3. It’s okay to rest.Psalm 23 reminds us that God leads us beside still waters.Your heart may need moments of quiet. Allow them.
4. It’s okay to honor your loved one.Light a candle. Share a story. Say their name.Remembrance is a form of love.
5. It’s okay to ask God for strength. He restores your soul—not instantly, but faithfully.
You don’t have to walk into this holiday season pretending everything is the same. It’s not.But God is the same—gentle, faithful, close to the brokenhearted, and deeply aware of what this season brings for you.
Let Him shepherd your heart.Let Him comfort your tears.Let Him restore your soul in the moments that feel overwhelming.
You are not walking through this season alone.
đź’› Prayer:
Lord,As I move through the holidays with both love and sorrow in my heart, give me grace for the moments that feel heavy. Help me honor my loved one while finding strength in Your presence. Lead me beside still waters, restore my soul, and surround me with peace that carries me through this season. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
