Transition Time

Day 33

TRANSITION TIME

[Scheduled Reading: Ecclesiastes 9-12, Songs, Isaiah 1-9]

We’re coming out of the wisdom literature and heading into the prophets.

But first, some basics:

There are 17 books in the “prophet” section

The first 5 are considered the “major prophets;” the next 12, “minor prophets”

The 5 major prophets cover nearly 200 pages in my Bible (1,042 pages); the minor prophets cover just 50 pages

Most of the prophet periods occurred before Israel and Judah’s captivity; but a few (i.e. Malachi, Haggai, Zechariah) occurred after their captivity

Most of the prophets came out of the southern kingdom (Judah) but a few (i.e. Jonah, Hosea) out of northern tribes (Israel)

It doesn’t help that these prophet books are not chronological.

They bounce around from era to era and back and forth between Judah and Israel. At least the last three books of the Old Testament - Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi - finish out chronologically.

Currently for me, the prophets are among the toughest sections of the scriptures to read. But that’s because I’m less familiar with these texts.

For our 60-day plan, I’ve marked the five Major Prophets with lots of Speed 2 reading. But if you want to power faster at Speed 3 pace, go for it.
