🌷 SPEAK LIFE
When Your Words Become a Ministry
October Theme: The Fruit of the Spirit
📖 TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”Proverbs 18:21 (KJV)
☕ Good morning & Happy Thursday, Bible Study Family! 💜
God is so, so good!
Yesterday we studied GENTLENESS — The Power of a Tender Heart.
Today we're taking that lesson one step further.
Because a gentle heart should produce gentle words.
Have you ever had someone say something so kind that you remembered it for years?
Maybe someone encouraged you when you were ready to give up.
Maybe someone told you they believed in you when nobody else did.
Or maybe someone simply said:
“I'm praying for you.”
Those few words may have meant more than that person ever realized.
But we've probably also experienced the opposite.
Words that hurt.
Words that embarrassed us.
Words spoken in anger that stayed with us long after the conversation ended.
Friend, that's why today's lesson is so important.
💜 OUR WORDS HAVE POWER.
🌿 WORDS CAN BUILD UP OR TEAR DOWN
Ephesians 4:29 (KJV) says:
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
I love that phrase:
“That it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
Did you catch that?
Our words can actually minister grace to someone!
You don't have to stand behind a pulpit to minister.
Sometimes ministry happens while you're standing in a grocery store.
Talking to a neighbor.
Encouraging a coworker.
Calling a friend.
Or speaking to someone in your own home.
A thoughtful word may help someone feel seen, valued, and encouraged.
Sometimes the ministry God places before us is simply speaking with kindness.
❤️ SPEAK TRUTH, BUT SPEAK IT WITH LOVE
Gentleness doesn't mean avoiding difficult conversations.
Sometimes we need to speak honestly.
Sometimes we need to correct a misunderstanding.
Sometimes we need to say no or establish a boundary.
But even when the truth is difficult, we can choose to speak respectfully.
Proverbs 15:1 reminds us:
“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”
Before speaking, ask yourself:
🌷 Is it true?
🌷 Is it necessary?
🌷 Is it kind?
🌷 Am I speaking to help, or simply to hurt?
Friend, we can be right about something and still be wrong in the way we communicate it.
Truth and love should walk together.
🌻 DON'T FORGET THE PEOPLE CLOSEST TO YOU
Sometimes we're quick to encourage strangers but forget the people in our own homes.
We say thank you to the cashier.
We smile at the neighbor.
We speak kindly at church.
But what about our spouse?
Our children?
Our parents?
Our family members?
Are we offering them the same kindness?
Sometimes the people who love us most are the ones who hear our frustration first.
Today, let's remember:
Our words should reflect Jesus at home, not just in public.
💜 SOMETIMES THE BEST WORDS ARE FEWER WORDS
James 1:19 tells us to be:
“Swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.”
Not every conversation needs our opinion.
Not every disagreement needs an argument.
Not every unkind comment deserves a response.
Sometimes listening is more helpful than talking.
Sometimes silence prevents unnecessary hurt.
And sometimes the most loving words we can say are:
“I'm sorry.”
“Please forgive me.”
“I understand.”
“I'm here for you.”
“Let's pray together.”
🙏 TODAY'S PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for another beautiful Thursday.
Lord, help me become more mindful of the words I speak.
Forgive me for the times I've spoken out of anger, frustration, pride, or impatience.
Help me use my words to encourage instead of discourage.
To build up instead of tear down.
To comfort instead of criticize.
Give me wisdom to know when to speak and when to listen.
Help me speak truth with gentleness and love.
And Lord, place someone in my path today who needs an encouraging word.
Let my words minister grace and point others toward Jesus.
In Jesus' precious name,
Amen. 💜
🌷 TODAY'S SPEAK LIFE CHALLENGE
Today, intentionally encourage three people.
❤️ Someone in your family: Tell them something you appreciate about them.
🌻 Someone who may be struggling: Offer a kind word or let them know you're praying for them.
🌿 Someone you encounter today: Share a genuine compliment or word of encouragement.
And before you respond to something frustrating, pause and pray:
“Lord, help my words reflect Your love.”
💬 QUESTION FOR OUR BIBLE STUDY FAMILY:
What's one encouraging thing someone said to you that you've never forgotten?
Share it in the comments! Your answer may inspire someone else to speak life today. 💜
🌻 TODAY'S REMINDER
Friend, we never know what someone may be facing behind their smile.
That person standing beside you may be fighting a battle you know nothing about.
Your kind words may not solve their problems.
But they can remind them that someone cares.
They can bring comfort.
They can offer hope.
And they can point someone toward Jesus.
🌷 SPEAK WITH KINDNESS.
💜 SPEAK WITH GRACE.
❤️ SPEAK LIFE.
Because sometimes the smallest words of encouragement can leave the greatest impact.
Have a beautifully blessed Thursday, Bible Study Family! 💜✝️
🌿 TOMORROW — FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16
GOODNESS — DOING RIGHT WHEN NOBODY IS WATCHING
Tomorrow we'll study the next Fruit of the Spirit and explore what it means to live with integrity, choose what's right, and reflect God's goodness even when no one else sees our actions.
