🌿 MEEKNESS — STRENGTH UNDER GOD'S CONTROL
Learning to Be Humble Without Being Weak
October Theme: The Fruit of the Spirit
📖 TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22–23 (KJV)
☕ Good morning & Happy Wednesday, Bible Study Family! 💜
God is so, so good!
Yesterday we studied Faithfulness in the Little Things, and today we're moving to another beautiful Fruit of the Spirit:
MEEKNESS.
Now, when we hear the word meekness, we sometimes picture someone who is quiet, timid, or afraid to speak up.
But friend, biblical meekness is something much deeper.
💜 MEEKNESS IS NOT WEAKNESS.
It's strength that has learned to surrender to God.
It's having the ability to respond harshly but choosing grace.
It's knowing when to speak and when to remain silent.
It's standing firmly on God's Word without becoming prideful or cruel.
And it's recognizing that we don't always have to win an argument to honor Jesus.
🌻 JESUS WAS MEEK, BUT NEVER WEAK
Jesus said in Matthew 11:29 (KJV):
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
Think about that!
Jesus described Himself as meek.
Yet He was never afraid to speak the truth.
He confronted hypocrisy.
He stood against wrongdoing.
He showed compassion toward sinners while never approving of sin.
He demonstrated both courage and humility.
Jesus showed us that we can stand strong in truth while maintaining a heart of love.
🌿 MEEKNESS IS HOW WE RESPOND WHEN CHALLENGED
Have you ever been in a conversation where someone said something that immediately made you defensive?
Maybe they criticized you.
Questioned your decisions.
Misunderstood your intentions.
Or spoke to you disrespectfully.
Our natural response may be to defend ourselves immediately.
But meekness teaches us to pause and ask:
“Lord, how would You have me respond?”
Proverbs 16:32 (KJV) says:
“He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”
What a powerful reminder!
Sometimes it takes more strength to remain calm than it does to argue.
Sometimes it takes more courage to apologize than to defend our pride.
And sometimes the greatest victory is refusing to allow anger to control our actions.
Not every disagreement needs to become a battle.
❤️ HUMILITY DOESN'T MEAN THINKING LESS OF YOURSELF
Meekness also involves humility.
But humility doesn't mean believing you have no value.
You are loved by God.
You have gifts and abilities He can use.
Your life has purpose.
Humility means recognizing that everything we have is ultimately dependent upon God's grace.
It means being willing to learn.
Being willing to admit when we're wrong.
And being willing to serve others without needing recognition.
Philippians 2:3 (KJV) says:
“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.”
Friend, humility doesn't make us less valuable.
It helps us value others as well.
💜 MEEKNESS STILL ALLOWS HEALTHY BOUNDARIES
Let's remember something important.
Being meek doesn't mean allowing someone to continually hurt, manipulate, or mistreat us.
We can be humble and still say no.
We can be kind and still establish boundaries.
We can forgive and still recognize that trust must be rebuilt.
We can speak truth without becoming hateful.
Meekness isn't surrendering to mistreatment. It's surrendering our attitudes and responses to God.
And sometimes the wisest, most Christlike response is to step away from an unhealthy situation.
🙏 TODAY'S PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for another beautiful Wednesday.
Lord, help me develop a heart of meekness and humility.
Forgive me for the times I've allowed pride, anger, or frustration to control my responses.
Teach me to stand firmly on Your truth while treating others with kindness and respect.
Help me recognize when I need to speak and when I need to listen.
Give me the humility to admit when I'm wrong and the courage to do what's right.
Help me establish healthy boundaries without allowing bitterness to grow in my heart.
And Lord, let the strength of Your Holy Spirit guide my words, attitudes, and actions.
May others see the character of Jesus reflected in my life.
In Jesus' precious name,
Amen. 💜
🌻 TODAY'S MEEKNESS CHALLENGE
Today, practice these three things:
🌿 PAUSE BEFORE RESPONDING.When someone frustrates you, take a moment to pray before speaking.
❤️ PRACTICE HUMILITY.Listen to someone else's perspective without immediately becoming defensive.
💜 CHOOSE GRACE.Look for an opportunity to respond with kindness when it would be easier to respond with irritation.
Then ask yourself:
“Am I allowing God's Spirit to guide my responses, or am I allowing my pride to lead?”
💬 QUESTION FOR OUR BIBLE STUDY FAMILY:
Have you ever experienced a situation where choosing humility or remaining calm made a greater difference than arguing would have?
Share your thoughts in the comments. Your experience may encourage someone else today!
🌷 TODAY'S REMINDER
Friend, you don't have to prove your strength by being the loudest person in the room.
You don't have to win every argument.
You don't have to respond to every criticism.
And you don't have to allow someone else's behavior to determine your character.
Sometimes strength looks like patience.
Sometimes it looks like forgiveness.
Sometimes it looks like admitting we were wrong.
And sometimes it looks like standing firmly for what is right while refusing to become unkind.
🌿 BE STRONG ENOUGH TO BE GENTLE.
💜 BE HUMBLE ENOUGH TO KEEP LEARNING.
✝️ BE FAITHFUL ENOUGH TO LET GOD LEAD.
Because meekness isn't the absence of strength.
It's strength surrendered to the One who knows how to use it.
Have a beautifully blessed Wednesday, Bible Study Family! 💜
