“You Are Allowed to Have a Good Day”
📖 Scripture — KJV
“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”— Psalm 118:24
🌿 Devotional Thought
There is something I believe many grieving hearts need permission to hear:
You are allowed to have a good day.
You are allowed to wake up and feel peaceful.
You are allowed to laugh until your sides hurt.
You are allowed to enjoy your morning coffee, take a drive, spend time with family, go shopping, sit outside in the sunshine, or simply enjoy being alive.
And you don't have to feel guilty about it.
Sometimes grief whispers:
“How can you be happy when the person you love isn't here?”
But having a good day doesn't mean you've forgotten.
Smiling doesn't mean you don't miss them.
Laughing doesn't mean the loss no longer matters.
And enjoying today doesn't erase yesterday.
Love and joy can still live in a grieving heart.
đź’ś Your Loved One Is Still Part of Your Story
The person you miss helped shape who you are.
Their words may still influence you.
Their laughter may still echo through your memories.
Their recipes may still be cooked in your kitchen.
Their sayings may come out of your mouth before you even realize it.
Their traditions may continue through your children and grandchildren.
Their love became part of your story.
Continuing to live doesn't remove them from it.
You carry pieces of the people you love everywhere you go.
And that is beautiful.
🌻 Don't Let Guilt Steal Today's Blessings
Grief can sometimes make happiness feel like betrayal.
You have a wonderful afternoon, and then suddenly you think:
“I shouldn't be enjoying myself this much.”
But why?
God gave you today.
Psalm 118:24 says:
“This is the day which the Lord hath made.”
Not only the days before your loss.
Not only the days when your family looked exactly as you thought it always would.
This day too.
This day is still a gift from God.
There may be tears in it.
There may be memories.
There may even be moments when you desperately wish your loved one were beside you.
But there can also be laughter.
There can be beauty.
There can be purpose.
There can be new memories.
There can be joy.
Receive those things without guilt.
🌿 A Good Day Doesn't Mean Grief Is Over
You may have a wonderful day today and cry tomorrow.
That's okay too.
Grief doesn't follow a straight line.
There will be easier days and difficult ones.
One doesn't cancel the other.
Healing isn't measured by how long it has been since you cried.
Sometimes healing looks like being able to cry and still recognize that life contains goodness.
Sometimes it looks like saying:
“I miss you terribly, but I am thankful for today.”
Those two truths can live together.
🕊️ Keep Making Memories
There are still people here who love you.
There are still hugs waiting to be given.
There are still family dinners to enjoy.
There are still sunsets to watch.
There are still prayers to pray.
There are still people who need your encouragement.
There are still photographs waiting to be taken.
There are still stories waiting to be written.
Keep living.
Not because you have forgotten those who are gone.
But because their lives taught you just how precious life truly is.
Speak their names.
Tell their stories.
Carry their love.
And continue making beautiful memories with the people God has placed around you today.
🙏 Monday Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for this day.
Thank You for the people we have loved and for every precious memory we carry.
For the grieving person who feels guilty when happiness begins returning, please remove that burden from their heart.
Help us understand that enjoying today does not mean forgetting yesterday.
Give us permission to laugh again.
To dream again.
To make memories again.
To love deeply again.
When sorrow comes, comfort us.
When joy comes, help us receive it with gratitude.
Teach us to treasure the past without missing the blessings You are placing before us today.
And above all, keep our hearts fixed upon Jesus and the eternal hope we have through Him.
In Jesus' precious Name,
Amen.
🌸 Today's Grief Support Challenge
Do one thing today simply because it brings you joy.
Then, instead of feeling guilty, whisper:
“Thank You, Lord, for giving me this moment.”
And tonight, write down one good thing that happened today.
It doesn't have to be big.
Sometimes healing begins with noticing the little blessings again.
🤍 Need Prayer?
If you're having a difficult grief day or simply need someone to stand with you in prayer, we would be honored to pray for you.
You can simply write:
“Please pray for me.”
đź’ś Agape Love Monday Reminder
You are allowed to have a good day. You are allowed to smile without guilt, laugh without apology, and thank God for the life still before you. Your joy does not diminish the love you have for those you miss. Carry their memories with you, speak their names, treasure their stories—and keep living.
You can miss yesterday, cherish the memories, and still thank God for today. 💜🕊️
