🍂 “A New Month Doesn’t Mean Leaving Them Behind”
📖 Today’s Scripture — KJV
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
— Ecclesiastes 3:1
🌿 Good Morning, Sweet Friends!
Here we are.
October 1st.
A new month.
A new page on the calendar.
The mornings are getting cooler. The leaves are beginning to change. Fall is settling in, and before we know it, Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here.
For many people, October brings excitement.
Fall decorations.
Pumpkins.
Cool evenings.
Beautiful leaves.
Family activities.
Warm cups of coffee.
But when you're grieving, a new month can bring another feeling too.
Sometimes turning that calendar page reminds us:
“Another month has begun without you.”
And that can hurt.
Maybe someone you love should be here enjoying this season with you.
Maybe they loved fall.
Maybe October holds a birthday or anniversary.
Maybe you're already thinking ahead to the holidays and wondering how you're going to face them without that familiar face around the table.
Friend, as we begin October together, I want you to remember:
You do not have to leave the people you love behind in order to move forward.
Carry the love.
Carry the lessons.
Carry the memories.
Carry the beautiful pieces of them that helped shape who you are.
And let God carry you.
đź’ś Moving Forward Isn't the Same as Moving On
I've never particularly liked the phrase:
“You need to move on.”
When we deeply love someone, we don't simply “move on” as though their life was something to put behind us.
Instead, I believe we learn to move forward.
There's a difference.
Moving forward says:
“I will keep living, but I will remember.”
“I will make new memories while treasuring the old ones.”
“I will laugh again without apologizing for the tears that still come.”
“I will carry the love you gave me into the life God has given me.”
You aren't replacing anyone.
You aren't forgetting anyone.
You're learning how to continue the story when someone you desperately wanted in the next chapter is no longer physically here.
And that takes courage.
🌷 Carry the Best of Them With You
Think about the person you're missing today.
What did they teach you?
Maybe Momma taught you how to cook.
Maybe Daddy taught you to work hard.
Maybe your spouse taught you what commitment looked like.
Maybe your child taught you how deeply a heart could love.
Maybe your grandparent taught you about faith.
Maybe your friend taught you to laugh at yourself.
Those lessons didn't disappear when they died.
They became part of you.
When you make Momma's recipe, something continues.
When you repeat Daddy's advice, something continues.
When you tell your grandchildren a story about someone they never had the opportunity to meet, something continues.
When you love someone because your loved one taught you how—
something continues.
That is legacy.
And legacy is one beautiful way love keeps reaching into tomorrow.
🕊️ Don't Be Afraid to Make New Memories This Fall
Sometimes making new memories after loss feels uncomfortable.
You may catch yourself enjoying something and suddenly think:
“They should be here.”
And you're right.
You wish they were.
But please don't let their absence convince you that you aren't allowed to enjoy the people who are still here.
Take the fall drive.
Drink the coffee.
Go to the family gathering.
Visit the mountains.
Take the pictures.
Sit around the fire.
Make the soup.
Bake the pie.
Go to church.
Laugh.
Tell stories.
Spend time with your children and grandchildren.
Making a new memory doesn't erase an old one.
Your heart has room for both.
You can miss yesterday and still enjoy today.
🍂 The Changing Seasons Can Bring Unexpected Grief
Fall can awaken memories we didn't expect.
A certain smell.
A favorite recipe.
Cool morning air.
A particular football game.
A family tradition.
A place you used to visit.
And suddenly, there they are in your thoughts again.
If that happens this month, don't be ashamed.
Pause.
Remember.
Cry if you need to.
Smile if the memory makes you smile.
And whisper:
“Lord, thank You for letting this person be part of my life.”
Not every memory has to become something we run away from.
Over time, some of the memories that once brought only tears can become the ones we treasure most.
đź’ś God Is Already in October
Perhaps you're worried about this month.
Maybe there's a difficult date coming.
Maybe the holidays are already weighing on you.
Maybe you're simply tired.
Here's something I want us to remember:
October isn't unknown territory to God.
He is already there.
He knows what October 5th holds.
October 15th.
October 31st.
He knows every conversation.
Every unexpected memory.
Every difficult morning.
Every answered prayer.
Every blessing.
Every tear.
And every moment of laughter.
You don't need enough strength for the entire month this morning.
You only need enough grace for today.
Tomorrow, God will provide tomorrow's grace.
🌸 Let This Month Be About Living and Remembering
What if we entered October without telling ourselves:
“I need to stop grieving”?
What if instead we prayed:
“Lord, teach me how to live while carrying this love.”
Let's make October a month of intentional living.
Tell people you love them.
Make the phone call.
Have coffee with the friend.
Visit family.
Forgive the little things.
Take pictures.
Listen when someone tells you a story you've already heard.
Hug people a little longer.
And don't wait for a funeral to tell somebody how much they mean to you.
Grief teaches us something we sometimes wish we had understood sooner:
Life is precious because people are precious.
Love them while they're here.
✝️ There Is a Season Beyond This One
Ecclesiastes reminds us that life contains seasons.
Some are joyful.
Some are painful.
Some are filled with beginnings.
Others contain goodbyes.
But for those who belong to Jesus, our story doesn't end with the seasons of this earth.
Jesus said:
“I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”
— John 11:25 KJV
That's our hope.
October will come and go.
Years will pass.
Seasons will change.
But God's promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ remains.
And there is coming a day when those who are in Christ will experience a season where death never interrupts another gathering.
No more goodbyes.
What a hope we have in Jesus.
🙏 October 1st Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for bringing us into another month.
As October begins, I lift up every grieving heart.
Some are entering this month with excitement, while others are entering it with sadness because someone they love is missing.
Lord, help us understand that moving forward does not mean leaving our loved ones behind.
Help us carry the beautiful things they taught us.
Help us tell their stories.
Help us preserve their memories.
And help us continue living without guilt.
When the changing season brings unexpected memories, comfort us.
When tears come, hold us.
When laughter comes, help us receive it.
When we worry about the days ahead, remind us that You are already there.
Give us grace for today.
Help us treasure the people who are still here.
Teach us to love deeply, forgive quickly, listen patiently, and never take ordinary moments for granted.
And above everything else, keep our hearts anchored in Jesus.
Thank You for the hope of Heaven and the promise that for those who belong to Christ, goodbye is not forever.
In Jesus' precious Name,
Amen.

🍂 Carry Their Love Into October
Today, write down three things:
đź’ś 1. A MEMORY
“One fall memory I treasure is…”
Write down something about your loved one you never want to forget.
🌷 2. A LEGACY
“Something they taught me that I still carry today is…”
Think about how their life continues influencing yours.
🕊️ 3. A NEW MEMORY
“One thing I want to do with someone I love this October is…”
Plan something simple.
Have coffee.
Take a drive.
Cook together.
Attend church.
Visit somewhere beautiful.
Take family pictures.
Make time for the people who matter.
Then pray:
“Lord, help me treasure yesterday without missing the blessings You are giving me today.”
đź’ś Let's Remember Them Together
As October begins, I'd love for our comments to become a place filled with memories.
Did your loved one enjoy fall?
Tell us about them.
What did they love about this season?
Did they have a favorite fall recipe?
A favorite place to visit?
A family tradition?
Or maybe October holds a special memory for you.
Share their name if you feel comfortable.
Let's keep telling their stories.
Because their lives were about so much more than the day we lost them.
🤍 Need Prayer?
If entering another month without someone you love feels especially difficult, we would be honored to pray with you.
Simply write:
“October feels difficult for me. Please pray for me.”
No long explanation is necessary.
God already knows the name written upon your heart.
If grief becomes overwhelming or you are thinking about harming yourself, please reach out for immediate support.
