🛡️ SEPTEMBER: PUTTING ON THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD

🙌 WHEN THE BATTLE GETS LOUD, WORSHIP ANYWAY!

Your Praise Doesn't Have to Wait Until the Storm Is Over

“I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”— Psalm 34:1 (KJV)

☕ GOOD SUNDAY MORNING!

Good morning, friends! 💜

It's Sunday!

The coffee is brewing, the Bible is open, and somewhere a momma is hollering:

“Everybody get your shoes on! We're leaving for church!” 😂

And somebody else is still looking for the shoes they were supposed to put away yesterday!

Oh, the memories of Sunday mornings!

But before the day gets busy, I want to share something that's been on my heart.

We've been studying the whole Armor of God throughout September.

We've talked about truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, God's Word, and prayer.

We've talked about standing when we're tired.

We've talked about protecting our homes and teaching the next generation.

But what happens when you've done everything you know to do...

And the battle is STILL going on?

You've prayed.

You've cried.

You've read your Bible.

You've asked others to pray.

You've tried to do the right thing.

But the situation hasn't changed.

Sometimes the enemy wants us so focused on the battle that we forget something powerful:

GOD IS STILL WORTHY OF OUR PRAISE!

Not just when the bills are paid.

Not just when everybody is healthy.

Not just when the family is getting along.

Not just when the answer is yes.

Not just when the sun is shining.

But even when life is difficult.

Worship isn't a reward we give God when life goes our way.

It's our response to who He is.

📖 TODAY'S BIBLE READING

2 Chronicles 20:15–22 (KJV)

Today we're visiting one of my favorite examples of trusting God during a battle.

King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah were facing a frightening situation.

A great multitude was coming against them.

They didn't know how they would overcome it.

But instead of trusting in their own strength, they sought the Lord.

God's message to them was:

“...Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.”— 2 Chronicles 20:15 (KJV)

And then:

“Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you...”— 2 Chronicles 20:17 (KJV)

But here's the part I love.

Before the victory was visible, Jehoshaphat appointed singers to praise the Lord.

They went out before the army, saying:

“Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.”— 2 Chronicles 20:21 (KJV)

And verse 22 tells us that as they began to sing and praise, the Lord acted against their enemies.

Now don't misunderstand this story.

God gave Judah specific instructions for that particular battle. It doesn't mean that singing guarantees every problem will disappear immediately.

But it teaches us something beautiful:

THEY WORSHIPED BEFORE THEY SAW THE ANSWER.

They didn't wait until the battle was over.

They praised God while they were still facing it.

And maybe that's exactly what somebody needs to do today.

🛡️ ARMOR OF GOD STUDY

Worship While Wearing Your Armor

Have you ever noticed that Ephesians 6 tells us to put on the armor and stand?

We're not instructed to panic.

We're not instructed to fight people.

We're not instructed to become bitter.

We're instructed to be strong in the Lord.

And worship helps turn our attention back toward Him.

When fear is loud...

Worship reminds us that God is greater than our fears.

When discouragement comes...

Worship reminds us that God hasn't forgotten us.

When we're tempted to give up...

Worship reminds us of what He has already done.

When we don't understand...

Worship reminds us that we can trust His character even when we cannot understand His plan.

Friends, worship doesn't mean pretending everything is okay.

Sometimes worship looks like standing in church with tears running down your face.

Sometimes it's singing while you're driving.

Sometimes it's whispering:

“Thank You, Jesus.”

Sometimes it's opening your Bible when you don't feel like doing anything.

Sometimes it's getting up on Sunday morning and going to church even though your heart is heavy.

WORSHIP ISN'T ALWAYS LOUD.

Sometimes it's a quiet decision:

“Lord, I still trust You.”

💜 TODAY'S FAITH THOUGHT

Don't Let the Enemy Steal Your Song

Have you ever had one of those days when everything seemed to go wrong?

You woke up late.

Spilled your coffee.

Couldn't find your keys.

Got stuck in traffic.

Received bad news.

Then somebody said one little thing...

And you were ready to pack a suitcase and move to a cabin in the woods where nobody could find you! 😂

We've all had days like that.

But here's what I've learned:

We cannot always control what happens around us.

We can choose where we turn when it does.

I have walked through some difficult seasons in my life.

There have been times when I didn't understand what God was doing.

Times when my heart was broken.

Times when I had questions I couldn't answer.

But through it all, one thing has remained true:

GOD HAS NEVER STOPPED BEING GOD.

And I don't want the difficult chapters of my life to silence the praise He deserves.

My tests and trials have become testimonies through His grace.

Not because every situation turned out the way I wanted.

But because God continued to carry me.

So today, if you're in the middle of something difficult...

Don't wait until it's over to thank Him for being with you.

🎶 Grandma's Old Hymnbook

Do you remember the old hymnbooks in church?

Some were red.

Some were blue.

Some had worn covers and pages that had been turned thousands of times.

You could open one and find a favorite hymn almost without looking.

And there was always somebody in the congregation who knew every verse by heart!

Maybe Grandma sang while washing dishes.

Maybe Grandpa hummed while working outside.

Maybe your momma sang while cooking supper.

Maybe there was an old piano in the living room.

And when the family gathered, somebody would start playing.

Before long, everybody was singing.

Songs like:

🎶 Amazing Grace

🎶 How Great Thou Art

🎶 Blessed Assurance

🎶 What a Friend We Have in Jesus

🎶 Victory in Jesus

Those hymns weren't just songs.

They carried testimonies.

They reminded people of God's faithfulness.

They gave words to prayers when people didn't know what to say.

And sometimes, years later, a familiar hymn can take us right back to a little country church or Grandma's kitchen.

Here's today's heritage challenge:

Ask an older family member:

“What was your favorite hymn growing up?”

And if you can, record them singing a little of it.

Someday that recording may become a priceless family treasure.

“O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.”— Psalm 95:1 (KJV)

On September 20, 1973, tennis champion Billie Jean King faced former men's champion Bobby Riggs in a widely publicized match at the Houston Astrodome.

King won in straight sets.

The match drew an enormous television audience and became an important moment in the history of women's professional sports.

Now, since we're talking about battles today, here's a little reminder:

Not every battle is fought on a battlefield.

Some challenges involve perseverance.

Preparation.

Courage.

And refusing to let someone else's expectations determine what you attempt.

In our spiritual lives, we must remember that our confidence is rooted in the Lord.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”— Philippians 4:13 (KJV)

Today, September 20, is National Back to Church Sunday, an annual invitation for people to visit or return to a local church.

Back to Church

And I want to extend a little invitation of my own.

Maybe you haven't been to church in a while.

Maybe life got busy.

Maybe you moved.

Maybe you've been hurting.

Maybe you had a difficult experience with people in a church.

Maybe you simply got out of the habit.

Friend, you don't have to have everything figured out before you walk through the doors.

You don't have to own fancy clothes.

You don't have to know every hymn.

You don't have to understand every Scripture.

And you certainly don't have to pretend your life is perfect.

COME AS YOU ARE.

Find a Bible-believing church where you can grow, worship, fellowship, and be encouraged.

And if you already attend church...

Look around today.

Is there somebody sitting alone?

A visitor who looks uncertain?

A family trying to find a seat?

Someone who needs a kind word?

Be the person who makes them feel welcome.

Sometimes one smile can make a tremendous difference.

You Can Praise God With Tears in Your Eyes

Sometimes people think worship means smiling all the time.

But some of the most meaningful worship happens when life is difficult.

When you're standing in church and a song reminds you of someone you miss.

When the words speak directly to a burden you've been carrying.

When you raise your hand even though your heart is hurting.

When all you can whisper is:

“Lord, I love You.”

God sees that.

He knows the burden.

He knows the questions.

He knows the grief.

He knows what happened before you walked into church.

You don't have to hide your pain from Him.

The Psalms show us people bringing sorrow, fear, questions, and praise before the Lord.

So if you're struggling today...

Bring that struggle with you.

WORSHIP THROUGH IT.

Not because the pain isn't real.

But because God's love is real too.

🛡️ FIVE REMINDERS FOR TODAY

1️⃣ Praise God before the answer comes.

He is worthy while you're waiting.

2️⃣ Worship doesn't require perfect circumstances.

You can worship through tears.

3️⃣ Don't let a difficult week keep you from fellowship.

Sometimes the very encouragement you need is waiting at church.

4️⃣ Remember what God has already done.

Yesterday's testimony can strengthen today's faith.

5️⃣ Your battle doesn't change God's character.

He is still faithful.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this beautiful Sunday morning.

Thank You for another opportunity to worship You.

Lord, today we come before You with grateful hearts.

Some of us are rejoicing.

Some of us are tired.

Some of us are grieving.

Some are facing difficult decisions.

Some are waiting for answers.

Some are carrying burdens nobody else knows about.

But Lord, through every season, You remain faithful.

Teach us to worship You in the sunshine and in the storm.

When the battle gets loud, remind us that You are greater.

When fear comes, strengthen our faith.

When discouragement comes, remind us of Your promises.

When we don't understand, help us trust You.

Lord, bless every church gathering today.

Bless pastors as they preach Your Word.

Bless Sunday school teachers.

Bless musicians and choirs.

Bless nursery workers and volunteers.

Bless those who quietly clean the church, prepare classrooms, and serve without recognition.

Let visitors feel welcome.

Let the lonely find fellowship.

Let the grieving find comfort.

Let the discouraged find hope.

Let the lost hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

And Lord, for those who haven't been to church in a while...

Give them courage to take that first step.

Help us become a community of believers who welcome people with truth, grace, and love.

Protect our families.

Our children.

Our grandchildren.

Our marriages.

Our homes.

Comfort those grieving today.

Provide for those struggling financially.

Bring healing according to Your will.

Strengthen caregivers.

Protect first responders.

Encourage those who feel forgotten.

And Lord, when we leave church today...

Don't let our worship end at the church doors.

Let us carry it home.

Into our workplaces.

Into our conversations.

Into our families.

Into every place You lead us.

May our lives become a testimony of Your goodness.

AND WHEN THE BATTLE GETS LOUD...

HELP US WORSHIP ANYWAY.
