🌿 Discovering Your God-Given Calling

When You Don’t Understand the Way, Trust the One Who Does

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”— Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)

☀️ Good Friday Morning, Friends!

Happy Friday! 💜

We've made it through another week, and maybe everything didn't go exactly as planned.

Perhaps something unexpected happened.

Maybe a door you hoped would open remained closed.

Maybe you're still waiting for an answer.

Maybe God has been leading you in a direction you never imagined.

Or perhaps you're standing at a crossroads saying:

“Lord, I just don't understand.”

Can I remind you of something today?

You don't have to understand everything to trust God with everything.

We often want God to show us the whole plan.

Where are we going?

How will this work?

When will the answer come?

Why did this happen?

But faith doesn't always receive an explanation.

Sometimes faith simply receives an invitation:

“Trust Me.”

📖 Today's Bible Reading

Proverbs 3:5–8 (KJV)

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

There are two very different ways to walk through life.

We can lean on our own understanding—or we can lean on God.

Our understanding is limited.

God's wisdom is not.

We see today.

God sees tomorrow.

We see the closed door.

God sees what was behind it.

We see the delay.

God sees the preparation.

We see the disappointment.

God may see redirection.

That's why Scripture tells us not merely to trust God when everything makes sense.

It tells us to trust Him with all our heart.

🌿 Discovering Your God-Given Calling

Sometimes the Detour Is Part of the Calling

We tend to imagine calling as a perfectly straight road.

God calls.

We obey.

Everything falls into place.

Wouldn't that be nice? 😊

But when I look through Scripture, I see something very different.

Joseph had a dream—but then came the pit and the prison before the palace.

David was anointed king—but then spent years running from Saul.

Moses was called to lead Israel—but faced resistance again and again.

Paul was called to preach the Gospel—but experienced imprisonment, rejection, hardship, and shipwreck.

The difficult road didn't mean they had missed God.

Sometimes the difficult road was part of God's preparation.

So don't automatically assume that resistance means you're headed in the wrong direction.

Pray.

Seek God's Word.

Ask for wisdom.

And keep trusting Him.

💜 What If God Is Redirecting You?

Sometimes we pray:

“God, make this work.”

But perhaps a better prayer is:

“God, if this isn't Your will, don't let it work.”

That's a harder prayer.

But it's also a freeing one.

We don't want every door.

We want God's door.

We don't want every opportunity.

We want God's opportunity.

We don't want every path.

We want the one He has prepared.

“A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.”— Proverbs 16:9 (KJV)

🧠 Today's Bible Trivia

Who was sold into slavery by his brothers but later became a powerful leader in Egypt?

A. BenjaminB. JosephC. JoshuaD. Aaron

📖 Scripture: Genesis 37–50

✅ Yesterday's Answer

B. David

David faithfully cared for his father's sheep before becoming king.

Those quiet years in the fields weren't wasted.

God was preparing a shepherd to eventually shepherd a nation.

🌿 Yesterday's lesson still speaks today:

Be faithful where God has placed you.

🇺🇸 Heritage & Legacy

Tell the Next Generation About God's Faithfulness

Our families need more than stories about where we came from.

They need stories about Who brought us through.

Tell your children about the time you didn't know how things would work out—but God made a way.

Tell your grandchildren about prayers God answered.

Tell them about the doors He closed that you later realized were blessings.

Tell them about the seasons when you cried, prayed, waited—and discovered God was faithful.

One day, when they're walking through their own difficult season, they may remember your testimony and say:

“If God brought Grandma through, I know He can bring me through too.”

“We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD...”— Psalm 78:4 (KJV)

That's a heritage worth leaving.

📜 Today in History

August 21, 1959 — Hawaii Became the 50th State

On August 21, 1959, Hawaii officially became the 50th state of the United States.

Today, Hawaii's unique Native Hawaiian heritage, history, traditions, landscapes, and cultures form an important part of America's story.

History reminds us that every community and generation contributes something meaningful to the larger story.

And spiritually, it reminds me that God brings together people from every background and walk of life.

“For there is no respect of persons with God.”— Romans 2:11 (KJV)

🎉 Today's Holidays & Fun Observances

👵 National Senior Citizens Day

Today is a wonderful opportunity to honor and appreciate the seniors in our families and communities.

Call someone.

Visit someone.

Listen to their stories.

Ask them about their childhood.

Learn a family recipe.

Look through old photographs together.

Most importantly—don't wait until they're gone to appreciate the wisdom they carry.

💜 World Senior Citizen's Day

Around the world, today also provides an opportunity to recognize older adults and the contributions they continue making to families and communities.

Scripture reminds us:

“The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.”— Proverbs 16:31 (KJV)

Let's honor the generations who came before us.

🌻 Inspiration for Today

You Don't Need the Whole Map

Wouldn't it be wonderful if God handed us a map at the beginning of life?

Age 25: Turn here.

Age 35: This will happen.

Age 45: Take this opportunity.

Age 55: Don't worry about that—it'll work out.

But He doesn't.

Instead, He gives us something better.

His presence.

He doesn't promise to explain every road.

He promises to walk it with us.

He doesn't promise there won't be valleys.

He promises we don't walk through them alone.

He doesn't always reveal what's around the corner.

But He already knows.

And sometimes that's enough.

🌸 Five Friday Reminders

💜 God sees what you cannot see.

🙏 A closed door can be protection.

🌿 Waiting can be preparation.

📖 God's Word will guide your decisions.

👣 You only need enough faith for the next step.

🌻 Friday Challenge

Think about one situation you've been trying to completely figure out.

Write it down.

Then underneath it write:

“God, I trust You even when I don't understand.”

Pray over it.

Then give yourself permission to stop carrying something you've already placed in God's hands.

🙏 Today's Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for carrying us through another week.

Lord, there are things in our lives we simply don't understand.

There are prayers we're still waiting to see answered.

There are doors we hoped would open.

There are changes we didn't expect.

And there are roads ahead we cannot yet see.

But today we choose to trust You.

When we don't understand the path, help us trust the One directing it.

When a door closes, give us wisdom not to force it open.

When You tell us to wait, give us patience.

When You tell us to move, give us courage.

And when we cannot hear anything at all, help us remain faithful to what You've already told us.

Today I pray for those who are grieving.

Comfort them.

For those who are sick...

Bring healing.

For those facing financial struggles...

Provide.

For families experiencing difficulties...

Bring peace and restoration.

For those standing at a crossroads...

Give wisdom and direction.

For our seniors...

Bless them, strengthen them, and remind them how deeply valued they are.

Protect our children and grandchildren.

Bless our churches and communities.

And use our lives to point someone toward Jesus today.

In Jesus' precious name,

Amen.

👵 Senior Citizens Day Challenge: Call, visit, encourage, or honor a senior today.

📖 Faith Challenge: Share Proverbs 3:5–6 with someone who needs encouragement.

🌿 Discovering Your God-Given Calling

Before we close today, remember:

Your calling isn't always going to make sense while you're walking through it.

There may be detours.

There may be delays.

There may be unexpected doors.

There may even be seasons when you wonder:

“God, what are You doing?”

Keep walking.

Keep praying.

Keep reading His Word.

Keep trusting.

One day you may look backward and realize:

The road you never would have chosen became the road God used to take you exactly where you needed to be.
