Called to Be Available, Not Perfect

🌅 Good Sunday Morning, Friends!
Happy Sunday! 💜
As we continue our journey of discovering our God-given calling, there is something I believe many of us need to remember:
God isn't looking for perfect people. He is looking for willing people.
How many times have we talked ourselves out of something because we didn't feel qualified?
“I don't know enough.”
“I'm too old.”
“I'm too young.”
“I've made too many mistakes.”
“Someone else could do it better.”
“I'm not a good speaker.”
“I don't have the right education.”
“I don't have enough resources.”
Yet throughout Scripture, God repeatedly called ordinary people.
Moses had excuses.
Gideon felt insignificant.
Jeremiah thought he was too young.
Peter was impulsive.
Thomas doubted.
Paul had a past.
But when people surrendered themselves to God, He accomplished extraordinary things through them.
Perhaps the most important qualification for your calling isn't perfection.
Perhaps it's simply being able to say:
“Here am I; send me.”
📖 Today's Bible Reading
Isaiah 6:1–8 (KJV)
Isaiah had an encounter with the holiness of God that made him painfully aware of his own shortcomings.
Yet after God cleansed him, Isaiah heard the question:
“Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”
Isaiah didn't respond:
“Let me think about it.”
He didn't ask whether the assignment would be easy.
He didn't request all the details first.
He answered:
“Here am I; send me.”
What a powerful prayer for us this Sunday.
Lord, here are my hands. Use them.
Here is my voice. Use it.
Here is my home. Use it.
Here is my business. Use it.
Here is my testimony. Use it.
Here is my life. Use it.
🌿 Discovering Your God-Given Calling
Stop Waiting Until You're Perfect
If God could only use perfect people, the Bible would be a very short book.
God's servants weren't flawless.
But they learned to surrender.
That's important because sometimes we confuse qualification with calling.
Of course we should learn.
We should prepare.
We should grow.
We should seek wisdom.
But don't spend your entire life preparing for something God has already told you to begin.
There comes a moment when faith must say:
“Lord, I don't have everything figured out, but I'm willing.”
And willingness placed in God's hands can become something beautiful.
🧠 Today's Bible Trivia
Who responded to God's call with the words, “Here am I; send me”?
A. JeremiahB. IsaiahC. EzekielD. Samuel
📖 Scripture: Isaiah 6:8
✅ Yesterday's Answer
B. Lydia
After Lydia believed the Gospel, she opened her home to Paul and his companions. Her hospitality became an opportunity for service.
What a beautiful reminder from yesterday:
Ministry doesn't always require a microphone.
Sometimes ministry simply requires an open heart—and an open door.
🇺🇸 Heritage & Legacy
The Faithful People Who Said Yes
Think about your own spiritual heritage.
Somewhere along the way, someone said yes.
A preacher said yes to preaching.
A Sunday school teacher said yes to teaching.
A grandmother said yes to praying.
A parent said yes to taking children to church.
Someone said yes to sharing the Gospel.
Someone invited someone.
Someone opened a Bible.
Someone prayed.
Someone served.
And generations later, the impact of that yes may still be continuing.
Never assume your obedience affects only you.
Your yes to God today may influence someone you haven't even met yet.
“One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.”— Psalm 145:4 (KJV)
📜 Today in History
August 23, 1966 — Lunar Orbiter 1 Captured an Iconic View of Earth
In August 1966, NASA's Lunar Orbiter 1 returned historic images showing Earth from the vicinity of the Moon—a perspective few people had ever imagined seeing.
There's something humbling about seeing our world from such a distance.
We spend so much time worrying about schedules, possessions, disagreements, and things that seem enormous in the moment.
Yet Scripture reminds us:
“The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”— Psalm 24:1 (KJV)
This world belongs to God.
And so do we.
🎉 Today's Observances
🛩️ National Aviation Day
August 19 is officially National Aviation Day, but August is a wonderful month to remember the remarkable history of flight and exploration—from the earliest aviation pioneers to space exploration.
Human beings have accomplished things earlier generations could scarcely imagine.
It reminds us never to underestimate what perseverance and vision can accomplish.
🌊 International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition
August 23 is recognized internationally as a day to remember the history and victims of the transatlantic slave trade and the long struggle against slavery.
History includes painful chapters that should not be forgotten. Remembering them gives us an opportunity to value human dignity, learn from the past, and choose compassion and justice in our own generation.
“And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.”— Luke 6:31 (KJV)
🧇 National Sponge Cake Day
And because our daily magazine always needs something lighthearted too—today is also a day for cake! 😊
Maybe Sunday dinner deserves a little dessert.
⛪ A Sunday Reminder
Don't Just Go to Church—Be the Church
I hope you're able to gather with other believers today.
Sing.
Pray.
Listen to God's Word.
Encourage somebody.
But remember:
Church isn't something we simply attend for an hour or two.
When the service ends, our ministry begins again.
Tomorrow at work...
Be the church.
At the grocery store...
Be the church.
At home...
Be the church.
Online...
Be the church.
When someone is hurting...
Be the church.
Let people encounter the love of Jesus through the way you live.
🌻 Inspiration for Today
God Can Work With Willing
Maybe you don't feel ready.
That's okay.
Maybe you're nervous.
That's okay too.
Maybe you've never done anything like what God is asking you to do.
Neither had many people in Scripture.
Don't let fear answer for you.
Don't let insecurity answer for you.
Don't let yesterday answer for you.
When God asks:
“Whom shall I send?”
May our hearts answer:
“Here am I; send me.”
🌸 Five Sunday Reminders
💜 God doesn't require perfection before He begins working in you.
🙏 Prayer should come before every assignment.
📖 God's Word prepares us for service.
🌿 Small acts of obedience can have generational impact.
✨ Availability can become the beginning of calling.
🌻 Sunday's Challenge
Pray the “Here Am I” Prayer
Take a few quiet moments today and pray:
“Lord, here I am.
Whatever You want me to do, show me.
Whoever You want me to encourage, show me.
Whatever You want me to surrender, show me.
Wherever You want me to serve, lead me.
My answer is yes.”
Then pay attention.
God may place an opportunity right in front of you.
🙏 Today's Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for this beautiful Sunday and another opportunity to worship You.
Thank You for loving ordinary people and allowing us to participate in Your work.
Lord, forgive us for the times we've allowed fear, insecurity, comparison, or our past to convince us that You couldn't use us.
Today we surrender ourselves again.
Here are our hands.
Here are our voices.
Here are our talents.
Here are our homes.
Here are our businesses.
Here are our experiences.
Here are our testimonies.
Here are our lives.
Use them for Your glory.
Today we pray for those who are grieving.
Comfort them.
For those who are sick...
Bring healing.
For those who are lonely...
Surround them with love.
For families facing struggles...
Bring restoration.
For those needing provision...
Make a way.
For our children and grandchildren...
Protect them and draw their hearts toward You.
For our pastors, churches, missionaries, teachers, and ministry workers...
Strengthen them.
And for the person searching for their calling...
Help them understand that sometimes calling begins with one simple word:
Yes.
In Jesus' precious name,
Amen.

🌿 Discovering Your God-Given Calling
Friend, maybe you've spent years asking:
“What is my calling?”
Perhaps today's question should be different:
“Lord, am I available?”
Because calling isn't about building our name.
It's about glorifying His Name.
It's not about becoming important.
It's about becoming obedient.
And it's not about being perfect.
It's about being surrendered.
So this Sunday, wherever you are in your journey, may your heart simply say:
“Here am I; send me.”
