🌿 Discovering Your God-Given Calling

Your Past Does Not Disqualify Your Purpose

☀️ Good Wednesday Morning, Friends!

Happy Wednesday! 💜

We've made it to the middle of another week, and today I want to speak to the person who has ever thought:

“God couldn't possibly use me after everything I've done.”

Maybe you have regrets.

Maybe you've made mistakes.

Maybe there are chapters of your story you wish you could rewrite.

Perhaps you've experienced failure, broken relationships, wrong decisions, lost opportunities, or seasons when you walked farther from God than you'd ever intended.

And sometimes the enemy loves to pull out an old chapter and convince us that it is the ending.

But friend, hear this today:

Your past does not disqualify your purpose.

If God only used people with spotless histories, there wouldn't be many people in the Bible left to talk about!

Moses had a past.

David had a past.

Rahab had a past.

Peter had failures.

Paul persecuted Christians.

Yet grace changed their stories.

God didn't pretend their past never happened.

He redeemed it.

And He can redeem yours too.

📖 Today's Bible Reading

Philippians 3:12–14 (KJV)

Paul writes:

“...but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.”

Then comes today's powerful reminder:

“...forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,”“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

Notice Paul's direction.

Forward.

He couldn't change yesterday.

Neither can we.

But he refused to allow yesterday to stop him from following Jesus today.

There is a difference between remembering what God taught you and living imprisoned by what God has forgiven.

Learn from yesterday.

Make things right when you can.

Accept responsibility when necessary.

Then allow God's grace to move you forward.

🌿 Discovering Your God-Given Calling

God Can Use the Chapter You Wanted to Hide

Sometimes we think our calling will come only from our strengths.

But God often uses our scars too.

The person who survived grief may become the person who knows how to sit quietly beside someone whose heart is breaking.

The person who experienced financial hardship may become unusually compassionate toward struggling families.

The person whose family walked through difficulties may know how to encourage another family.

The person who once felt hopeless may recognize hopelessness in someone else's eyes.

The person God restored may become a living testimony that restoration is possible.

Your scars don't have to become your identity.

But they can become evidence that God brought you through.

“Blessed be God... Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble...”— 2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (KJV)

Sometimes your greatest ministry grows from the place where you once needed ministry the most.

💜 Grace Does Not Mean the Past Didn't Matter

Grace isn't pretending our choices never had consequences.

Grace doesn't mean refusing to apologize.

Grace doesn't mean ignoring people we've hurt.

Biblical grace leads us toward repentance, change, forgiveness, and restoration.

When we need to say:

“I was wrong,”

we should say it.

When restitution is appropriate, we should pursue it.

When we need forgiveness, we should ask.

But after genuine repentance, don't keep trying to pay for something Jesus has already forgiven.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins...”— 1 John 1:9 (KJV)

You don't honor God by refusing to believe His grace is enough.

Receive His forgiveness—and walk differently because of it.

Your past isn't your qualification either—God's grace is.

🇺🇸 Heritage & Legacy

Tell the Whole Story—Including the Grace

Sometimes family history becomes polished over time.

We tell the victories.

We display the beautiful photographs.

We remember the celebrations.

But every family has also walked through difficult seasons.

There have been mistakes.

Hard times.

Losses.

Failures.

And fresh beginnings.

Our children and grandchildren don't need to believe we lived perfect lives.

They need to know where we went when life wasn't perfect.

Tell them:

“I made mistakes, but God was merciful.”

“I didn't always know what to do, so I prayed.”

“There were times I wanted to quit, but God carried me.”

“Our family went through difficult seasons, but God remained faithful.”

That's heritage too.

“We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD...”— Psalm 78:4 (KJV)

Leave behind more than the story of what your family accomplished.

Leave the story of what God did.

📜 Today in History

August 26, 1920 — Women’s Voting Rights Took a Historic Step Forward

On August 26, 1920, the certification of the 19th Amendment formally recognized that voting rights could not be denied by the United States or a state on account of sex.

The date later became commemorated in the United States as Women's Equality Day.

The history surrounding voting rights is broader and more complicated than one amendment, and many women—particularly women facing racial discrimination—continued fighting for full access to the ballot.

Remembering history means celebrating progress while also being willing to learn the fuller story.

Today commemorates the certification of the 19th Amendment and provides an opportunity to remember generations of women whose courage, leadership, work, and perseverance helped shape families, communities, churches, workplaces, and our nation.

It's also a wonderful day to encourage a woman who has made a difference in your life.

Maybe it's your:

Tell her:

“Your life has made a difference.”

Today also celebrates those furry companions who become part of our families. 🐾

Whether they're working dogs, service animals, farm dogs, rescue dogs, or the spoiled little one sleeping on your couch right now, animals bring so much joy to our lives.

🌻 Inspiration for Today

Stop Reintroducing Yourself by Your Worst Chapter

Sometimes God has already moved us forward, but we keep introducing ourselves through our mistakes.

“I'm the person who failed.”

“I'm the one whose marriage didn't work.”

“I'm the one who made that terrible decision.”

“I'm the one who lost everything.”

“I'm the one who messed up.”

But if you belong to Christ, your identity isn't found in your worst day.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature...”— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

Your past may explain part of your story.

It doesn't get to write the ending.

Jesus does.

🌸 Five Wednesday Reminders

💜 Your worst chapter isn't your whole story.

🙏 Repentance allows us to turn and walk differently.

📖 God's grace is greater than your past.

🌿 Your experiences can become compassion for someone else.

✨ Keep pressing toward what God has placed before you.

🌻 Wednesday Challenge

Replace Regret With Testimony

Think of one thing from your past you've allowed to define you.

Now ask yourself:

“What has God taught me through this?”

Instead of saying:

“I failed.”

Try:

“I failed, but God taught me how to begin again.”

Instead of:

“I went through a terrible season.”

Try:

“I went through a terrible season, and God showed me He would never leave me.”

Instead of:

“My heart was broken.”

Try:

“My heart was broken, but God met me in the brokenness.”

Don't glorify the pain.

Glorify the God who carried you through it.

🙏 Today's Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your mercy that is new every morning.

Thank You that our mistakes do not surprise You and our failures do not place us beyond the reach of Your grace.

Lord, help us honestly face the places where we've been wrong.

Give us humility to repent.

Give us courage to apologize when necessary.

Give us wisdom to learn from our mistakes.

And then help us move forward.

Break the chains of shame that keep people imprisoned by yesterday.

Remind us that through Christ there is forgiveness, restoration, and new life.

Use our testimonies to help someone else.

Use our scars to make us compassionate.

Use our experiences to give us wisdom.

And use every redeemed chapter for Your glory.

Today we pray for those who are grieving.

Comfort them.

For those who are sick...

Bring healing.

For those who feel ashamed...

Remind them of Your mercy.

For those who need a fresh beginning...

Give them courage.

For families needing restoration...

Bring healing and forgiveness.

For our children and grandchildren...

Protect them and guide their steps.

Bless our churches.

Strengthen our leaders.

And help us become people who extend the same grace to others that we have so desperately needed ourselves.

In Jesus' precious name,

Amen.

Friend, God knew every chapter before He called you.

He knew the mistakes.

He knew the disappointments.

He knew the detours.

He knew the victories.

And He knew the person you would become through His grace.

So don't spend today trying to crawl back into yesterday.

Press forward.

There's still more of your story to be written.
