Don't Let Fear Keep Your Story Hidden

Scripture

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."— 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)

Good Saturday morning, authors! 💜📖

There is something I believe many writers struggle with but don't always talk about:

Fear.

What if my writing isn't good enough?

What if nobody buys my book?

What if people criticize it?

What if I publish it and make a mistake?

What if someone else has already written something similar?

What if I fail?

But here's another question:

What if God uses it?

What if someone reads your testimony and realizes they aren't alone?

What if your devotional reaches someone during one of the darkest seasons of their life?

What if your children's book plants a seed of faith in a little heart?

What if your novel gives someone a few hours of joy during a difficult season?

What if your story inspires another person to finally tell theirs?

Fear loves to ask, "What if something goes wrong?"

Faith asks, "What could God do if I simply obey?"

🌿 Your Story Doesn't Have to Be Perfect

Being an author can make us vulnerable.

When we publish something, we're putting a piece of ourselves into the world.

Someone may love it.

Someone else may not.

And that's okay.

Your assignment isn't to please every reader.

Your assignment is to faithfully steward the gift God has given you.

There will always be something you could change.

Another sentence you could rewrite.

Another paragraph you could polish.

Another detail you could adjust.

Excellence matters, but perfectionism can become another form of procrastination.

At some point, we have to pray:

"Lord, I've done my best. Now I trust You with it."

💜 Someone Else's Success Doesn't Cancel Your Calling

Fear sometimes arrives disguised as comparison.

You see another author's beautiful cover.

Their new release is selling.

They have hundreds of reviews.

Their social media is growing.

And suddenly you begin questioning your own journey.

But another author's success doesn't take anything away from what God has called you to do.

There is room for their story.

And there is room for yours.

Celebrate them.

Encourage them.

Learn from them.

Then return to the assignment God placed in your hands.

We're not here to compete with one another.

We're here to help one another grow.

✍️ Courage Doesn't Mean Fear Is Absent

Sometimes courage looks like clicking Publish while your hands are shaking.

Sometimes courage is sending the manuscript to an editor.

Sometimes it's sharing your first chapter with someone.

Sometimes it's admitting:

"I have a book inside me, and I'm finally going to write it."

You don't have to feel fearless before you move forward.

You simply have to decide that faith gets the final word.

🙏 Saturday Author Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for every author, future author, and dreamer reading this today.

You know the stories You've placed within our hearts, and You also know the fears that sometimes keep us from sharing them.

Replace fear with faith.

Replace insecurity with confidence in You.

Replace comparison with encouragement.

And replace procrastination with faithful action.

Give us wisdom to learn, humility to accept correction, patience with the process, and courage to keep moving forward.

May the stories we write encourage hearts, bring hope, share truth, and glorify You.

In Jesus' precious name,

Amen.

✍️ Today's Author Challenge

Today, identify one fear that has been holding you back.

Write it down.

Then beside it write:

"God has not given me the spirit of fear."

Now take one action against that fear.

📖 Start the book.

✍️ Finish the chapter.

📝 Send the manuscript.

📚 Research your publishing options.

💻 Share your work.

🎉 Post your book link.

Don't try to conquer the entire journey today.

Just refuse to let fear control today's step.
