ā¤ļø LOVE ā MORE THAN A FEELING
The First Fruit We See in a Spirit-Led Life
October Theme: The Fruit of the SpiritGrowing in Grace ⢠Rooted in Christ ⢠Bearing Fruit for His Glory
š TODAYāS SCRIPTURE
āBut the fruit of the Spirit is loveā¦āGalatians 5:22 (KJV)
ā GOOD MORNING & HAPPY MONDAY, BIBLE STUDY FAMILY!
God is so, so good! š
For the first few days of October, we prepared the soil for our Fruit of the Spirit study.
š We asked, āWhat is growing in my life?ā
šæ We learned to abide in Jesus, the Vine.
š³ We talked about becoming rooted and grounded.
āļø And yesterday, we learned about allowing God to prune what hinders our growth.
Now we are ready to begin looking at the Fruit of the Spirit one by one.
And Paul begins with:
ā¤ļø LOVE.
I don't think that's an accident.
Jesus said in John 13:35:
āBy this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.ā
Notice what Jesus didn't say.
He didn't say people would recognize His followers because they knew the most Bible verses.
Because they had the biggest church.
Because they could win every argument.
Or because they always had the perfect words.
He pointed to love.
Friend, if we belong to Jesus, love should increasingly become visible in the way we live.
But biblical love is much deeper than simply saying:
āI love you.ā
ā¤ļø LOVE IS MORE THAN A FEELING.
šæ WHAT DOES BIBLICAL LOVE LOOK LIKE?
First Corinthians 13 gives us one of Scripture's clearest pictures of love:
āCharity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up.ā1 Corinthians 13:4 (KJV)
Biblical love is patient.
Love is kind.
Love isn't jealous of another person's blessings.
Love doesn't have to make everything about itself.
Love doesn't keep demanding recognition.
Love doesn't celebrate wrongdoing.
Love rejoices in truth.
And this is where today's lesson becomes personal.
It's easy to read 1 Corinthians 13 at weddings.
It's harder to live it on an ordinary Monday morning when somebody is getting on your last nerve! š
That's where fruit becomes visible.
ā¤ļø LOVE IS AN ACTION
Sometimes we think:
āI don't feel loving toward that person today.ā
But biblical love isn't controlled entirely by emotion.
There will be days when loving actions come easily.
There will also be days when love requires a decision.
Love may look like:
𤲠Helping someone who cannot repay you.
š Listening when someone needs to talk.
š Praying for someone who hurt you.
š£ļø Refusing to gossip.
š Showing compassion.
š² Taking a meal to someone struggling.
š± Checking on someone who has been quiet.
š¤ Forgiving.
š» Encouraging someone who feels forgotten.
Sometimes love is a big sacrifice.
But oftenā
LOVE LOOKS LIKE SMALL ACTS OF FAITHFULNESS REPEATED EVERY DAY.
āļø JESUS IS OUR EXAMPLE
If we want to understand love, we look to Jesus.
John 15:13 says:
āGreater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.ā
Jesus didn't simply talkĀ about love.
He demonstrated it.
He touched people others avoided.
He welcomed children.
He showed compassion toward the hurting.
He spoke truth.
He forgave.
He served.
And ultimately, He went to the cross.
Romans 5:8 says:
āBut God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.ā
Friend, Jesus didn't wait for us to become perfect before loving us.
THE CROSS IS THE GREATEST PICTURE OF LOVE.
š LOVING SOMEONE DOESN'T MEAN APPROVING EVERYTHING
This is important.
Biblical love and biblical truth are not enemies.
Sometimes we think loving someone means we must agree with everything they say or approve of every decision they make.
That's not what Scripture teaches.
First Corinthians 13:6 says love:
āRejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;ā
We can love someone deeply while still believing something is wrong.
We can disagree without becoming cruel.
We can speak truth without humiliating people.
We can establish healthy boundaries without becoming bitter.
And sometimes love requires saying:
āI love you, but I cannot participate in this.ā
Or:
āI care about you, but this behavior isn't healthy.ā
REAL LOVE DOESN'T ABANDON TRUTH.
AND TRUTH SHOULD NEVER BECOME AN EXCUSE TO ABANDON LOVE.
ā¤ļø WHAT ABOUT DIFFICULT PEOPLE?
Now we're getting to the hard part! š
Jesus said:
āBut I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate youā¦āMatthew 5:44 (KJV)
That's challenging.
It's easy to love people who love us.
But the Fruit of the Spirit becomes especially visible when love costs us something.
Loving a difficult person does notĀ mean allowing abuse or repeatedly placing yourself in harmful situations.
Forgiveness does not automatically mean restored trust.
Reconciliation may require repentance, change, wisdom, and healthy boundaries.
But we can refuse to allow hatred to take root in our hearts.
We can pray.
We can release revenge to God.
We can refuse to repay cruelty with cruelty.
Sometimes love looks like closeness.
Sometimes love looks like prayer from a healthy distance.
LOVE DOES NOT REQUIRE US TO BECOME A DOORMAT.
BUT IT DOES REQUIRE US TO GUARD AGAINST HATRED.
šŖ BEFORE LOOKING AT THEIR LOVE, EXAMINE YOURS
Remember our rule for October?
We're not spending this month inspecting everybody else's fruit! š
Before saying:
āMy husband needs this.ā
āMy sister needs this.ā
āThat woman at church REALLY needs this!ā
Let's ask:
āLORD, WHAT ABOUT ME?ā
Am I patient?
Am I kind?
Do I celebrate when others are blessed?
Do I forgive?
Do I speak kindly about people when they aren't present?
Do my words build people up?
Do I treat people differently depending on what they can do for me?
Does my family experience the same Christian love from me that strangers see?
That last question can step on our toes.
Sometimes we're kinder to strangers than we are to the people living in our own homes.
Friend, spiritual fruit should grow at home too.
š± LOVE BEGINS WITH GOD
First John 4:19 says:
āWe love him, because he first loved us.ā
We don't manufacture this kind of love entirely through human strength.
Remember our foundation:
šæ ABIDE IN THE VINE.
The more deeply we understand God's love for us, the more His love should shape the way we treat others.
That's why love is part of the Fruit of the Spirit.
We're asking the Holy Spirit:
āProduce in me a kind of love I cannot produce by myself.ā
š TODAYāS PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for another beautiful Monday.
Thank You for loving me when I didn't deserve it.
Thank You most of all for Jesus and the love demonstrated at the cross.
Lord, help me love more like You.
Make me patient.
Make me kind.
Remove jealousy, pride, bitterness, and selfishness from my heart.
Help me celebrate the blessings of others.
Teach me to speak truth with love.
Help me forgive without ignoring wisdom.
Give me discernment to establish healthy boundaries when necessary without allowing hatred to grow in my heart.
Father, show me someone today who needs encouragement, compassion, prayer, or kindness.
Let Your love become visible through my words and actions.
And when loving someone becomes difficult, remind me that I need the Holy Spirit's help.
Grow Your love in me.
In Jesus' precious name,
Amen.Ā ā¤ļø
ā¤ļø TODAYāS LOVE CHALLENGE
Do one intentional act of loveĀ today.
Not because someone asked.
Not because you'll receive anything in return.
Simply because you want your life to reflect Jesus.
Maybe:
š Send an encouraging message.
š Call someone who is lonely.
š Pray for someone who has hurt you.
š² Help someone in need.
ā¤ļø Tell someone you appreciate them.
š¤ Refuse to participate in gossip.
š¤ Forgive an offense you've been replaying.
Then ask:
āLORD, WHO CAN I LOVE FOR YOU TODAY?ā
š SCRIPTURE TO REMEMBER
āWe love him, because he first loved us.ā1 John 4:19 (KJV)
š» CLOSING THOUGHT
Friend, the world hears plenty of people talkingĀ about Christianity.
What if they could also see Christianity through the way we love?
Not a love without truth.
Not a love without wisdom.
Not a love without boundaries.
But a love shaped by Jesus.
A love that is patient.
A love that is kind.
A love that forgives.
A love that serves.
A love that tells the truth with grace.
A love that points people toward Christ.
ā¤ļø DON'T JUST SAY LOVE.
ā¤ļø LIVE LOVE.
Because when the Holy Spirit is working within usā
LOVE SHOULD BEGIN TO GROW.
Have a beautifully blessed Monday, Bible Study Family! šā¤ļøšāļø

ā¤ļø TOMORROW ā OCTOBER 6
LOVING THE DIFFICULT ONES
Loving Like Jesus When It Isn't Easy
Tomorrow we're going deeper into one of Jesus' most challenging teachings:
āBut I say unto you, Love your enemiesā¦āMatthew 5:44 (KJV)
How do we love someone who has hurt us?
Can we forgive and still have boundaries?
Does loving someone mean trusting them again?
How do we pray for someone when we're still hurting?
We're going to talk about all of it.
Until tomorrowā
Stay rooted in Christ.
Stay close to the Vine.
And let His love grow through you.Ā ā¤ļøšæš
