✂️ THE MASTER’S PRUNING

When God Removes What Hinders Growth

📖 Today’s Scripture

“…every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.”John 15:2 (KJV)

☕ Good morning & Happy Sunday, Bible Study Family! 💜

As we continue our October study on the Fruit of the Spirit, we have already learned three important truths:

🍇 Examine what is growing in your life.🌿 Stay connected to Jesus, the Vine.🌳 Become deeply rooted in Christ.

Today we come to something that may not sound quite as pleasant:

✂️ PRUNING.

If you have ever watched someone prune a fruit tree or grapevine, you know it can look strange.

Healthy-looking branches may be trimmed.

Dead growth is removed.

Overgrown areas are cut back.

For a season, the plant may even look like it has lost something.

But the gardener sees what we cannot.

The gardener isn't cutting without purpose.

There is a goal:

MORE FRUIT. 🍇

Jesus said that the branch bearing fruit is purged—or pruned—

“…that it may bring forth more fruit.”

And that made me think about our own lives.

Sometimes we pray:

“Lord, help me grow.”

But then God begins showing us things that need to change, and suddenly growth isn't quite as comfortable as we expected!

Maybe He begins dealing with us about…

💭 An attitude.

🗣️ The way we speak.

❤️ Unforgiveness.

😠 Anger.

🌱 Pride.

📱 A distraction taking too much of our time.

👀 Comparison or jealousy.

⏰ Priorities that have gotten out of order.

🙏 A neglected prayer life.

📖 A Bible that stays closed too often.

Sometimes what needs pruning isn't something everybody else can see.

Sometimes it's hidden deep within our hearts.

And that's why we need to be willing to pray:

“LORD, SEARCH ME.”

✂️ PRUNING ISN’T ALWAYS PUNISHMENT

I want us to understand something important.

We should never assume every painful thing that happens in life means God is punishing or pruning us.

Sometimes difficult things happen that we simply don't understand.

There are losses we would never choose.

Disappointments we didn't cause.

Heartaches we cannot explain.

But even in those seasons, we can still ask:

“Lord, how can You help me grow through this?”

God can take something we never would have chosen and use it to deepen our faith, strengthen our compassion, teach us dependence upon Him, and draw us closer to Jesus.

Romans 8:28 reminds us:

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…”

It doesn't say everything that happens is good.

It reminds us that God is able to work through it.

💜 Friend, there is a big difference.

🌱 WHAT NEEDS TO GO?

Here's our heart-check for today:

We cannot keep asking God for new growth while refusing to surrender the things choking it.

We pray:

“Lord, give me peace.”

But continue feeding worry.

“Lord, give me joy.”

But continually compare our lives with everybody else's.

“Lord, help me become gentle.”

But refuse to control our words.

“Lord, give me self-control.”

But continue feeding the very temptation we're asking Him to help us overcome.

Sometimes God answers our prayer for growth by showing us what needs to go.

And when He does, our response needs to become:

“YES, LORD.”

🍇 REMEMBER THE PURPOSE

Don't become so focused on what God is asking you to surrender that you forget what He wants to grow.

✂️ Bitterness removed…

❤️ More room for love.

✂️ Constant worry surrendered…

🕊️ More room for peace.

✂️ Harshness surrendered…

🤲 More room for gentleness.

✂️ Pride surrendered…

🌿 More room for meekness.

✂️ Impulsive choices surrendered…

🧭 More room for temperance.

The goal isn't simply an emptier branch.

THE GOAL IS MORE FRUIT.

💜 TODAY’S QUESTION

Take a quiet moment today and ask:

“Lord, is there anything in my life that is hindering the fruit You want to grow?”

Don't ask that question thinking about somebody else.

This isn't:

“Lord, show my husband…”

“Lord, show my wife…”

“Lord, show my friend…”

“Lord, show that person at church…”

😂 Nope!

Today we're praying:

“LORD, SHOW ME.”

🙏 TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for another beautiful Sunday and another opportunity to grow in Your Word.

Lord, search my heart.

Show me anything that is hindering my walk with You.

If there is bitterness, help me release it.

If there is pride, humble me.

If there is unforgiveness, help me begin letting go.

If my priorities have gotten out of order, help me rearrange them.

If something is taking too much of my time and attention, give me wisdom to recognize it.

Help me remain connected to Jesus and deeply rooted in Your Word.

And Father, when I walk through seasons I don't understand, help me trust You and ask how I can grow through them.

Prune what needs pruning.

Strengthen what needs strengthening.

And let my life bear more fruit for Your glory.

In Jesus' precious name,

Amen. 💜

✂️ TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Write down these three questions:

1. WHAT NEEDS PRUNING?What attitude, habit, distraction, or pattern is hindering my spiritual growth?

2. WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO GROW?Which Fruit of the Spirit needs more room in this area?

3. WHAT WILL I DO ABOUT IT?What practical step of obedience can I take today?

Then pray:

“LORD, I SURRENDER WHAT HINDERS MY GROWTH.”

🌻 SUNDAY ENCOURAGEMENT

Friend, don't become discouraged when God shows you an area that needs work.

That doesn't mean He has abandoned you.

It means there is still room to grow.

We are all growing.

We are all learning.

We all need God's grace.

So stay connected to the Vine.

Keep your roots deep.

Remain teachable.

And when God shows you something that needs changing—

Trust the Gardener. 🌿

✂️ LET HIM PRUNE.

🌱 LET HIM GROW.

🍇 LET YOUR LIFE BEAR FRUIT.

Have a beautifully blessed Sunday, Bible Study Family! 💜✝️

❤️ TOMORROW — OCTOBER 5

We begin studying the individual Fruit of the Spirit!

And we begin with the very first one:

❤️ LOVE — MORE THAN A FEELING

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love…”Galatians 5:22 (KJV)

What does biblical love really look like?

Is love only an emotion?

How did Jesus demonstrate love?

And perhaps the harder question—

How do we love people when loving them isn't easy?

Tomorrow, we'll begin digging deeper into LOVE. ❤️
