🌻 CHOOSE JOY IN THE VALLEY
Finding Strength in the Lord When Life Is Hard
October Theme: The Fruit of the Spirit
📖 TODAY'S SCRIPTURE — Habakkuk 3:17–18 (KJV)
“Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.”
☕ Good morning & Happy Thursday, Bible Study Family! 💜
God is so, so good!
Yesterday we learned that happiness depends on circumstances, but biblical joy comes from Jesus.
Today we're going a little deeper.
Because it's one thing to talk about joy when life is going well.
But what happens when we're walking through a valley?
When prayers seem unanswered?
When our hearts are hurting?
When we've lost someone we love?
When we're doing everything we know to do, yet nothing seems to be changing?
Friend, that's when we discover something beautiful about the joy of the Lord.
💜 JOY CAN STILL GROW IN THE VALLEY.
🌿 THE POWER OF “YET”
I love the words of Habakkuk.
He described a season when everything seemed to be going wrong.
No fruit on the vines.
No food in the fields.
No livestock in the stalls.
In other words, the things people depended upon were failing.
But then he made a powerful declaration:
“Yet I will rejoice in the LORD…”
Notice he didn't say everything had suddenly gotten better.
He didn't say the problems had disappeared.
He said YET.
Even though things are difficult…
Even though I don't understand…
Even though I'm still waiting…
YET I WILL REJOICE IN THE LORD!
That is faith-filled joy.
Not rejoicing because everything is good, but rejoicing because God is still good.
💜 JOY DOESN'T MEAN YOU AREN'T HURTING
I want to remind someone today that choosing joy doesn't mean you have to hide your tears.
You can be grieving and still trust God.
You can be disappointed and still believe His promises.
You can be weary and still hold onto hope.
Psalm 23:4 says:
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me…”
David didn't say we would never enter a valley.
He reminded us that God walks with us through it.
Friend, sometimes the greatest blessing isn't that God immediately removes the valley.
It's discovering that He never left us in it.
🌻 FINDING JOY IN THE LITTLE THINGS
When life is hard, it's easy to become so focused on what's wrong that we overlook what's still good.
A beautiful sunrise.
A kind word.
A friend who checks on us.
A favorite Scripture.
A precious memory.
A quiet moment with the Lord.
These things don't erase our troubles, but they can remind us that God's goodness is still present.
Sometimes joy comes as a celebration.
And sometimes joy comes as a whisper:
“Lord, thank You for helping me make it through another day.”
❤️ DON'T LET THE VALLEY BECOME YOUR HOME
Valleys are part of life's journey, but we don't have to surrender our hope to them.
Keep praying.
Keep reading God's Word.
Keep worshiping.
Keep trusting.
And when you don't have the strength to do much else, simply call on Jesus.
Nehemiah 8:10 reminds us:
“…for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
Our strength doesn't always come from having the answers.
Sometimes it comes from knowing Who holds us when we don't.
🙏 TODAY'S PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for another beautiful day and another opportunity to grow closer to You.
Lord, You know the valleys we are walking through.
You know the tears we've cried, the prayers we've prayed, and the burdens we're carrying.
Help us remember that joy doesn't require perfect circumstances.
Teach us to trust You even when we don't understand.
Open our eyes to the blessings around us.
Strengthen those who are grieving, discouraged, lonely, or weary.
And when life becomes overwhelming, remind us that You are still with us.
Help us say, like Habakkuk:
“Yet I will rejoice in the LORD.”
In Jesus' precious name,
Amen. 💜
🌻 TODAY'S JOY CHALLENGE
Take a few quiet moments and complete these three sentences:
❤️ Even though I'm facing…Name something difficult in your life.
🌿 I know God is still…Remember something true about His character.
🌻 Today I can thank Him for…Find one blessing, however small.
Then pray:
“Lord, help me find Your joy even here.”
💬 QUESTION FOR OUR BIBLE STUDY FAMILY:
Has God ever given you unexpected peace or joy during a difficult season?
If you're comfortable, share a little encouragement in the comments. Your testimony might be exactly what someone needs today.
💜 TODAY'S REMINDER
Friend, sometimes the valley changes our circumstances.
Sometimes it changes our perspective.
And sometimes God uses that season to deepen our dependence upon Him.
But never confuse a difficult season with God's absence.
The same God who walks with us on the mountaintop walks with us through the valley.
So whatever you're facing today, remember these three words:
🌻 YET I WILL.
Yet I will pray.
Yet I will trust.
Yet I will worship.
Yet I will hold onto hope.
Yet I will rejoice in the Lord! 💜
Have a beautifully blessed Thursday, Bible Study Family!
