A Joy the World Cannot Take Away

📖 TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“…for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”Nehemiah 8:10 (KJV)

☕ Good morning & Happy Wednesday, Bible Study Family! 💜

God is so, so good!

For the past two days, we've been studying the first Fruit of the Spirit—LOVE.

Today we move to the next:

😊 JOY.

But before we go any further, we need to understand something important:

JOY AND HAPPINESS ARE NOT EXACTLY THE SAME THING.

Happiness is often connected to what's happening around us.

When life is going well, we feel happy.

When the bills are paid, the family is doing well, our health is good, and everything seems peaceful—it's easier to smile.

But what happens when life changes?

What happens when the phone call comes?

When someone we love is gone?

When the doctor's report isn't what we hoped?

When a relationship falls apart?

When money gets tight?

When prayers seem unanswered?

When life simply doesn't make sense?

Does our joy have to disappear?

Friend, this is where biblical joy becomes something much deeper.

💜 JOY IS ROOTED IN JESUS, NOT PERFECT CIRCUMSTANCES.

🌿 YOU CAN HAVE JOY AND STILL HAVE TEARS

Sometimes Christians unintentionally make hurting people feel as though sadness means they don't have enough faith.

That isn't true.

Jesus Himself wept.

“Jesus wept.”John 11:35 (KJV)

Jesus knew Lazarus would be raised, yet He still entered into the sorrow surrounding Him.

Grief is real.

Pain is real.

Disappointment is real.

And having joy in Christ does not mean we pretend those emotions don't exist.

You can love Jesus and cry.

You can trust God and grieve.

You can have faith and still have questions.

You can experience sorrow and still know that God is good.

JOY DOESN'T DENY THE PAIN.

JOY REMINDS US THAT PAIN DOESN'T GET THE FINAL WORD.

😊 WHERE DOES OUR JOY COME FROM?

Jesus said:

“These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.”John 15:11 (KJV)

Did you notice those words?

“MY JOY.”

Jesus isn't asking us to manufacture joy by pretending everything is wonderful.

Our joy comes from Him.

When circumstances change—

Jesus doesn't.

When people disappoint us—

Jesus remains faithful.

When we cannot see tomorrow—

Jesus is already there.

When our strength is gone—

His strength remains.

That's why Nehemiah could say:

“THE JOY OF THE LORD IS YOUR STRENGTH.”

🌻 DON’T WAIT FOR EVERYTHING TO BE PERFECT

Sometimes we tell ourselves:

“I'll have joy when…”

When this problem is solved.

When I have more money.

When my health improves.

When my family changes.

When that prayer is answered.

When life finally settles down.

Friend, if we wait for every problem to disappear before allowing ourselves to experience God's goodness, we may spend much of our lives waiting.

There can still be blessings in difficult seasons.

A sunrise.

A cup of coffee.

A phone call from a friend.

A child's laughter.

A Scripture that speaks directly to your heart.

A prayer answered in a way you didn't expect.

A quiet moment when God's presence feels especially near.

Sometimes joy comes in enormous celebrations.

Sometimes joy whispers:

“GOD IS STILL HERE.”

💜 JOY ISN’T PRETENDING

Please don't confuse biblical joy with putting on a fake smile.

You don't have to tell everyone:

“I'm fine!”

when you're not.

God already knows your heart.

Psalm 30:5 reminds us:

“…weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”

There are nights of weeping.

Scripture acknowledges them.

But the night isn't forever.

MORNING IS COMING. 🌅

And sometimes our joy isn't loud.

Sometimes joy looks like getting out of bed and praying:

“Lord, I don't understand this, but I'm still trusting You.”

That's joy with roots.

🌿 WATCH WHAT STEALS YOUR JOY

Not everything that steals our joy is a tragedy.

Sometimes it's:

Comparison.

Complaining.

Constant negativity.

Social media.

Trying to please everybody.

Replaying old offenses.

Worrying about things that haven't happened.

Looking at everybody else's blessings while forgetting our own.

Friend, comparison can make us overlook a hundred blessings because we're focused on the one thing somebody else has.

Sometimes we need to stop and say:

“LORD, OPEN MY EYES TO WHAT YOU HAVE ALREADY GIVEN ME.”

Gratitude doesn't mean our lives are perfect.

It means we refuse to let what's missing blind us to what remains.

🙏 TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being the source of my joy.

Lord, some days are easy and some days are very hard.

When life hurts, help me remember that I don't have to pretend.

You see every tear.

You understand every disappointment.

You know every question in my heart.

Help me find my joy in Jesus instead of changing circumstances.

Protect my heart from comparison, complaining, bitterness, and worry.

Open my eyes to the blessings I overlook.

And when I walk through a season of sorrow, remind me that sorrow and faith can exist together.

Let the joy of the Lord become my strength.

In Jesus' precious name,

Amen. 💜

😊 TODAY’S JOY CHALLENGE

Today, write down:

5 THINGS YOU ARE THANKFUL FOR.

They don't have to be big.

Maybe it's:

☕ Your morning coffee.

🌅 A beautiful sunrise.

❤️ Someone you love.

🏡 A place to call home.

📖 God's Word.

🙏 An answered prayer.

🌻 A memory that makes you smile.

Then finish this sentence:

“Even in this season, God has been good to me because…”

And thank Him.

💭 TODAY’S QUESTION

What is one small thing that brings you joy and reminds you of God's goodness?

Share it with us in the comments. 💜

Someone reading your answer today may need the reminder that there is still goodness to be found.

📖 SCRIPTURE TO REMEMBER

“…for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”Nehemiah 8:10 (KJV)

🌅 CLOSING THOUGHT

Friend, maybe you're reading this during one of the happiest seasons of your life.

Thank God for it.

Enjoy it.

Treasure it.

But maybe you're reading this with tears in your eyes.

If that's you, please remember:

You don't have to pretend the pain isn't real in order to trust God.

Joy isn't always laughter.

Sometimes joy is the quiet confidence that says:

“I STILL BELIEVE GOD IS GOOD.”

The circumstances may change.

People may change.

Seasons may change.

But Jesus remains.

So when happiness fades—

HOLD ON TO JESUS.

Because our deepest joy isn't found in everything going right.

OUR JOY IS FOUND IN THE ONE WHO NEVER LEAVES US. 💜

Have a beautifully blessed Wednesday, Bible Study Family! 😊🌿🍇✝️
