Easter Countdown: – The Thursday Before Easter (Maundy Thursday)

Theme: The Servant King

Scripture Focus (KJV):

“If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.”

—John 13:14–15

“And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.”

—Luke 22:19

 Devotional Thought:

Tonight we pause at the table with Jesus.

It is the Thursday before His crucifixion. Known as Maundy Thursday, this day is marked by two extraordinary acts of love: the washing of feet and the breaking of bread.

Jesus—King of kings, Lord of lords—knelt before His disciples and washed their feet. Dusty, calloused, and imperfect. What a picture of humility! Even Judas, who would betray Him, received this tender act of service. What love! What grace!

Then, He broke the bread. He shared the cup. He spoke words that echoed through eternity:

"This is my body, broken for you."

"This is my blood, shed for the remission of sins."

Can you feel the weight of that moment? The stillness in the room? The heart of a Savior who loved us so much that He would serve us—even in His darkest hour.

On this sacred day, we are reminded that to love like Jesus is to serve like Jesus. To follow Him is to kneel low, to lift others high, to give when it costs, and to forgive when it’s hard.

 Reflection Questions:

What does it mean to you that Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, including the one who betrayed Him?

How can you reflect His humility and servant heart today?

Are you partaking of the Lord’s Supper with reverence and remembrance?

More Scriptures to Meditate On (KJV):

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who... took upon him the form of a servant…” —Philippians 2:5–7

“By love serve one another.” —Galatians 5:13

“The Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” —Matthew 20:28

 Today’s Prayer:

Lord Jesus,

Tonight, I thank You for the humility You showed when You knelt down and washed the feet of those You loved. Help me to be more like You—to love without limits, serve without hesitation, and give without expecting anything in return. As I remember Your Last Supper and look to the cross, may my heart overflow with gratitude and grace.

In Your precious name, Amen.
