Rolling With Grace: Day 3 — New Orleans Adventures, Thrift Finds & God Working in the Details

June 30, 2025

Day 3 of our adventure started with a long drive, a few unexpected moments, and a whole lot of God showing up in the little details — like He always does.

A Sweet Encounter & a Quick Prayer

Before we made it to New Orleans, I met a sweet little lady at a gas station. I could tell something was going on with her — she looked like she was struggling. Turns out, her sciatica was flaring up badly. I offered to pray for her, and her name is Tasha. I truly believe God placed us at that gas station at just the right time.

Arrival in New Orleans — And a Hotel Headache

We rolled into New Orleans around 3 p.m., excited to settle in and start exploring. But when we got to the hotel, our room wasn’t ready. No big deal — we let the front desk know we wanted to head to the French Quarter for a bit, and she assured us all was good.

After some exploring and grabbing dinner, we came back… only to find out they had canceled our reservation at 6 p.m.! I was so upset — we booked that room over six months ago, and I had literally been there earlier, standing at the desk.

I told the attendant they needed to make this right. Thankfully, Tim had just gotten a AAA card, and they honored that discount. Turns out, it actually saved us $100 on the week! What started as frustration turned into unexpected savings and a clean, comfy room that even comes with breakfast. God works in the details, even when we don’t see it right away.

Thrift Shop Treasures & Wandering Roads

Today was about settling in and exploring. We found two little thrift shops full of cool treasures — you know I couldn’t resist. I found some very unique pieces that’ll be coming home with me!

We also did one of our favorite things — drove around just to see where the roads would take us. No map, no plan — just adventure.

The French Quarter, Riverboats & Music

We made our way back to the French Quarter, soaking in the sights, live music, and riverboats. The energy, the history — it’s unlike anywhere else.

Dinner at an Amazing Creole Diner

Tonight, we stopped at an amazing little Creole diner, and let me tell you — the food did not disappoint! I had a shrimp Po' Boy that was huge and absolutely delicious. Tim had smoked sausage, beans, rice, collard greens — he said they were the best he's ever had. He even tried the gumbo and loved it!

Stretching Our Legs & a Little Nature Break

We ended the day at a beautiful park, letting Althea stretch her legs and soaking in some fresh air. We even stumbled across a bird sanctuary — a peaceful, perfect way to unwind.

Ending the Day With Gratitude (and a Nap)

Now, we’re relaxing at the hotel. I’m watching a little TV, Tim's napping (of course! 😉), and we’re winding down, thankful for the day — bumps, blessings, and all.

What’s Next?

Tomorrow, we’re going on a Riverboat Tour, and you better believe I’ll be sharing every minute of that adventure right here. Stay tuned — there’s so much more to come!
