🎨 CRAFT OF THE DAY
🪟 Thrifted Picture Frames → Beautiful Farmhouse Lanterns!
Happy Wednesday, crafting friends! 💜🌻
Who's ready for another FUN and budget-friendly project?
Today we're taking something you can find in almost EVERY thrift store, yard sale, or estate sale and turning it into something beautiful!
OLD PICTURE FRAMES! 😍
You know those mismatched frames sitting on thrift-store shelves for 50 cents or a dollar?
Maybe they're scratched, outdated, or missing their pictures.
Well, DON'T PASS THEM BY!
Today we're transforming four inexpensive picture frames into a beautiful Farmhouse Decorative Lantern that can be displayed in your living room, entryway, bedroom, or on your dining table.
And the best part?
You can change the decorations inside with every season!
🛒 WHAT YOU'LL NEED
🖼️ Four picture frames of the same size🎨 Chalk paint or acrylic paint🖌️ Paintbrush🧼 Cleaning cloth🪵 Small wooden base or sturdy craft board🔨 Strong adhesive suitable for your frame material🌿 Faux greenery🕯️ Battery-operated candle🎀 Burlap, lace, or gingham ribbon🧶 Jute twine🍂 Autumn leaves🌻 Small faux flowers🪵 Small wooden knob or finial (optional)
BUDGET TIP: Check Dollar Tree, thrift stores, yard sales, or your own closets for old picture frames!
🔨 STEP-BY-STEP DIRECTIONS
1️⃣ FIND YOUR HIDDEN GEMS!
Look for four matching-size picture frames.
They don't have to be the same color or style!
That's what makes this project fun.
Try 5x7 or 8x10 frames.
Remove the backing, pictures, and any loose hardware.
For a safer, lighter project, replace glass inserts with clear acrylic sheets if you want transparent sides.
2️⃣ GIVE YOUR FRAMES A MAKEOVER!
Clean the frames thoroughly.
Choose your favorite paint color:
🤍 Antique White🖤 Farmhouse Black🌿 Sage Green💜 Dusty Lavender🤎 Natural Wood🩵 Cottage Blue
For today's project, I love antique white with a little natural wood showing around the edges.
Allow everything to dry completely.
3️⃣ CREATE YOUR LANTERN!
Arrange the four frames upright to form a square or rectangular lantern.
Use strong adhesive appropriate for the frame material to join the sides.
Follow the adhesive manufacturer's instructions for curing time.
For extra stability, use small corner braces if the frames allow.
Remember, this is a lightweight decorative lantern, not a heavy-duty outdoor lantern.
4️⃣ ADD YOUR BASE!
Attach your frame structure to a sturdy wooden base.
Make sure everything is level and secure.
You can paint the base to match your frames or leave it natural for a rustic farmhouse appearance.
5️⃣ ADD YOUR DECORATIONS!
Now comes my FAVORITE part! 😍
Place a battery-operated candle inside.
Add a little greenery around the base.
For a beautiful fall display, try:
🌻 Sunflowers🍂 Autumn leaves🌾 Wheat stems🌿 Eucalyptus🤎 Pinecones🍎 Small decorative apples
Keep everything simple so your lantern doesn't look overcrowded.
Important: Use battery-operated candles only. Never place a real flame inside a homemade picture-frame lantern.
6️⃣ ADD YOUR FINISHING TOUCHES!
Tie a beautiful gingham, burlap, or lace bow around the top.
Add a small wooden knob or finial if desired.
Place your finished lantern on a table, mantel, bookshelf, or entryway console.
And there you have it!
FOUR FORGOTTEN PICTURE FRAMES HAVE BECOME ONE BEAUTIFUL HOME DÉCOR TREASURE! 💜
🌷 BONUS IDEA — ONE LANTERN, FOUR SEASONS!
This is what makes today's craft extra special!
You don't have to put it away when fall is over.
Simply change the decorations inside!
🌷 SPRING: Tulips, pastel flowers, and greenery.
🌻 SUMMER: Daisies, lavender, and little birds.
🍂 FALL: Sunflowers, wheat, colorful leaves, and pinecones.
🎄 CHRISTMAS: Evergreen, pinecones, berries, and a beautiful ribbon.
One inexpensive project can decorate your home all year long!
💰 WEDNESDAY'S $10 CHALLENGE!
Can you create today's lantern for $10 OR LESS?
Look for frames priced at $1 each.
Use leftover paint.
Reuse ribbon from another project.
Find a piece of scrap wood for the base.
And use a battery-operated candle you already own.
The secret to budget-friendly crafting is learning to see possibilities in what we already have!
💜 TODAY'S INSPIRATION — LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE!
You know, today's project reminds me of something special.
We started with four ordinary picture frames.
Individually, they might not have seemed like much.
But when we brought them together and added a little light, they became something beautiful.
Isn't that a wonderful reminder of how God can use us?
We all have different gifts.
Different talents.
Different experiences.
But when we come together in love and encourage one another, we can accomplish beautiful things.
And sometimes, even the smallest act of kindness can bring light into someone's darkest day.
A kind word.
A phone call.
A prayer.
A little encouragement.
Never underestimate the difference you can make in someone else's life.
Keep shining your light, friends. Someone may need it more than you realize. 💜
📖 TODAY'S SCRIPTURE (KJV)
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Matthew 5:16
