Happy Wednesday, creative friends! 💜
Today we're trying something FUN, DIFFERENT, and BUDGET-FRIENDLY!
Have you ever seen those beautiful woven baskets in home décor stores and thought, "I love that, but I'm not paying those prices!" 😂
Well, today we're making our own!
We're taking an inexpensive Dollar Tree rope basket, or making a simple rope basket ourselves, and giving it a gorgeous makeover using an old thrifted sweater!
The result?
A soft, cozy, cottage-style storage basket that's perfect for your living room, bedroom, bathroom, or craft room.
And here's the best part...
YOU GET TO MAKE IT YOUR OWN! 😍
🛒 WHAT YOU'LL NEED
🧶 Old cable-knit sweater or chunky sweater🧺 Small Dollar Tree basket or sturdy container🪢 Cotton nautical rope from Dollar Tree✂️ Fabric scissors🔥 Hot glue gun and glue sticks🧵 Needle and thread🎀 Burlap or gingham ribbon🪵 Wooden buttons (optional)🌿 Small faux greenery (optional)📏 Measuring tape
MONEY-SAVING TIP: Check your closet for a sweater you no longer wear before buying one!
🔨 STEP-BY-STEP DIRECTIONS
1️⃣ FIND YOUR HIDDEN GEM!
Look for an old sweater with a beautiful texture.
Cable-knit sweaters work especially well!
Choose a color that complements your home:
🤍 Cream🤎 Oatmeal🌿 Sage Green🍂 Rust💜 Muted Lavender🩵 Dusty Blue
Wash and dry your sweater according to its care label before beginning.
2️⃣ PREPARE YOUR BASKET!
Find a small, sturdy basket at Dollar Tree or use one you already own.
If you want a rope-covered look, wrap cotton nautical rope around the outside, starting at the bottom.
Secure it with small amounts of hot glue as you work.
Keep the rope rows close together.
Allow the glue to cool completely.
Tip: Use a heat-resistant work surface and be careful with hot glue!
3️⃣ CREATE YOUR SWEATER LINER!
Measure the inside of your basket.
Cut a piece of sweater fabric large enough to line the inside and fold slightly over the rim.
For a simple liner, use the body of the sweater as a fabric tube if it fits your basket.
Secure cut knit edges with stitching to prevent unraveling.
4️⃣ FIT YOUR LINER!
Place the sweater fabric inside your basket.
Smooth it around the sides and bottom.
Fold the top edge over the rim for a beautiful cozy look.
Use a few hand stitches or removable ties to hold it in place.
This makes it easier to remove the liner for cleaning!
5️⃣ ADD YOUR PERSONAL TOUCHES!
Now comes the fun part!
Decorate your basket with:

Keep it simple so the sweater texture remains the star.
