šØ REPURPOSE OF THE DAY
Vintage Wooden Ironing Board ā Charming Cottage Sofa Table
Happy Wednesday, creative friends! š
Today's project is for all of us who walk through a thrift store, flea market, or yard sale and look at something old and think...
āI KNOW THAT COULD BECOME SOMETHING!ā š
If you ever come across an old wooden ironing board, don't automatically think laundry room!
Today we're turning one into a beautiful, narrow cottage-style sofa or entryway table.
It's perfect for those places where you want a little decorating space but don't have room for a deep piece of furniture.
And talk about a conversation piece!
Someone is going to ask:
āIs that an old ironing board?ā
And you get to say...
āIT SURE IS!ā š

š” THRIFTING TIP
Look past scratches and worn finishes.
What matters most is whether the board and legs are solid, stable, and safe.
If you're working with a genuinely old painted piece, avoid sanding an unknown finish until you know it doesn't contain lead.
šØ STEP-BY-STEP
1ļøā£ FIND YOUR HIDDEN GEM
Look for an old wooden ironing board at:
šļø Thrift storesš” Estate salesš·ļø Yard salesšŖµ Flea marketsš Barn salesā»ļø Salvage shops
Make sure the wood isn't badly cracked or rotten.
Open the legs and check that the board stands securely.
2ļøā£ CLEAN IT UP
Remove the old ironing-board cover and padding if they're still attached.
Clean the wood thoroughly.
And then STOP for a minute before you paint!
Old wood can be absolutely beautiful.
You might decide that its scratches and imperfections are exactly what give it character. š
3ļøā£ CHOOSE YOUR STYLE
Want to change the appearance?
Try:
š¤ Antique White ā cottage
šæ Sage Green ā country
š¤ Black ā modern farmhouse
š Muted Lavender ā something different
š¤ Natural Wood ā vintage
𩵠Dusty Blue ā French cottage
Or leave the original finish completely alone!
NOT EVERYTHING OLD NEEDS PAINT. š
Sometimes preserving the history makes the piece even more special.
4ļøā£ MAKE IT SAFE & STABLE
This is important!
An ironing board wasn't originally designed to be a furniture table.
Check all hinges and hardware.
Tighten loose screws.
Make sure the legs lock securely.
If the board wobbles or the mechanism doesn't lock safely, don't use it as a table until it's properly repaired or reinforced.
And keep the dƩcor lightweight.
5ļøā£ NOW LET'S DECORATE!
Here's where your treasure-hunting skills come in!
Instead of buying brand-new decorations, try styling your table with other thrifted finds:
š§ŗ Vintage basket
š Old books
šŗ Stoneware pitcher
š¼ļø Old picture frame
šæ Greenery
šÆļø Flameless candle
šŖµ Little wooden sign
š Bible or devotional
ā Vintage mug
Every little treasure tells a story!
š FALL STYLING IDEA
For October, place a basket on one end with a cozy folded throw.
Stack two or three thrifted books.
Add a vintage pitcher with greenery.
Place a battery-operated candle beside it.
Then add just a touch of autumn with colorful leaves, pinecones, apples, wheat, or a plain harvest pumpkin.
Simple.
Warm.
Cozy.
And completely unique!
š· ONE TABLE ā EVERY SEASON!
Here's another reason I love this project.
You DON'T have to put it away after fall!
š· SPRING:Ā Tulips, watering can & birdhouse
š» SUMMER:Ā Daisies, lavender & vintage pitcher
š FALL:Ā Apples, wheat, leaves & cozy baskets
š CHRISTMAS:Ā Evergreen, bells, berries & lanterns
Change the decorations instead of buying another piece of furniture.
THAT'S BUDGET-FRIENDLY DECORATING! š
š° WEDNESDAY'S TREASURE HUNT CHALLENGE
If you went thrifting today and found an old wooden ironing board for $10, would you buy it?
Here's the bigger challenge:
LOOK FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS MADE FOR ONE PURPOSE...
AND IMAGINE AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT ONE!
An old drawer doesn't have to stay a drawer.
A chair doesn't have to stay outdated.
And an ironing board doesn't have to spend its life holding laundry.
Creativity begins when we stop asking:
āWhat IS this?ā
and start asking:
āWHAT COULD THIS BECOME?ā š
š TODAY'S INSPIRATION
Sometimes we're so used to seeing something one way that we never consider another possibility.
That's why I love repurposing.
It teaches us to look again.
An old ironing board might look outdated and unnecessary to one person.
But someone with a little imagination sees a beautiful table.
The object didn't change when we first looked at it.
Our perspective did.
There are times in life when we need to ask God to help us see things from a different perspective too.
What looks like a setback may be redirection.
What looks like an ending may be preparation for something new.
What looks ordinary may be carrying possibilities we haven't discovered yet.
Keep looking.
Keep creating.
And don't be afraid to dream about what somethingāor a season of lifeācould become. š
š TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
"Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?"
Isaiah 43:19 (KJV)
š¤ QUESTION OF THE DAY!
You find a sturdy vintage wooden ironing board at an estate sale.
WHAT WOULD YOU TURN IT INTO?
š” Sofa table
šŖ Entryway table
ā Coffee bar
šæ Plant stand
šØ Craft-room table
šŖ“ Covered-porch display
š Something completely different!
Tell us your idea below!
šø WEDNESDAY'S āWHAT COULD THIS BECOME?ā CHALLENGE!
Today I want everyone to look around your house, garage, basement, or favorite thrift store.
Find ONE unusual item.
Take a picture.
Post it in the group and ask:
āWHAT COULD THIS BECOME?ā
Then let's put our creative minds together!
Someone may see a possibility you never considered.
And THAT is exactly what Thrifted Gems & Creative DreamsĀ is all about. š
THRIFT IT. ā»ļø REPURPOSE IT. šØ CRAFT IT. ā¤ļø LOVE IT.
