👩‍🍳 FREE COOKING CLASSES & KITCHEN SKILLS!

Learn • Cook • Save Money • Feed Your Family

Happy Wednesday, friends! 💜

This week's Wednesday Weekly Free Resources is going into the KITCHEN!

Did you know there are places where you can learn cooking, meal planning, food safety and even ways to stretch your grocery budget FOR FREE?

Whether you're just learning to cook or you've been cooking for 50 years, there's always something new to learn!

🍲 1. FREE ONLINE COOKING & NUTRITION COURSE

Create Better Health, through Utah State University Extension, offers a FREE online course.

Lessons include:

🥕 Healthy cooking ideas💰 Stretching your grocery dollars🛒 Meal planning and shopping🍳 Cooking demonstrations🥗 Using foods you already have🧼 Food safety📋 Reading nutrition labels🍽️ Quick, healthy recipes

Best of all, you can work through the online lessons from home!

👩‍🍳 2. N.C. COOPERATIVE EXTENSION

This is a resource I really want our North Carolina friends to know about!

N.C. Cooperative Extension offers educational programs throughout the state, and Family & Consumer Sciences programs can include:

🍳 Cooking demonstrations🥫 Food preservation🥗 Nutrition🧼 Food safety💰 Budget-friendly meals🍽️ Meal preparation

Some programs are FREE, while others may have a small materials fee, so always check the individual class.

And don't just check your own county—neighboring counties may have classes you can attend too!

🍽️ 3. FREE “COOKING ESSENTIALS” RESOURCES

NC State also has Cooking Essentials, Ingredients for Life resources designed to teach basic cooking skills.

Topics include:

🔪 Kitchen & Cooking Basics🌯 Handheld Meals🥣 Bowl Meals🍗 One-Pan Meals🍲 One-Pot Meals🥕 Meal Prep

There are recipes and downloadable educational resources available online.

This could be especially helpful for a young adult learning to cook!

❤️ 4. FREE EFNEP CLASSES FOR ELIGIBLE FAMILIES

Here's one many people may not know about!

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) offers FREE classes to eligible limited-resource families.

Participants can learn how to:

🍎 Prepare healthier meals💰 Save money on groceries🍳 Cook more meals at home🥦 Add more fruits and vegetables🧼 Handle food safely📋 Plan meals

Eligibility guidelines apply, but if your family qualifies, this could be a wonderful FREE resource.

🥫 5. LEARN FOOD PRESERVATION

Want to learn more about:

🍅 Canning🥒 Pickling🍓 Jams and jellies❄️ Freezing foods🥕 Preserving your garden harvest?

Check your Cooperative Extension office!

Extension offices frequently provide reliable, research-based information about safely preserving food at home.

📚 6. CHECK YOUR LIBRARY TOO!

Your library isn't only for books!

Ask whether your library offers:

👩‍🍳 Cooking programs📚 Cookbooks💻 Online classes🥗 Nutrition programs👧 Children's cooking activities🎥 Access to educational video services

And don't forget—you can borrow cookbooks instead of buying them!

⛪ 7. LOOK AROUND YOUR COMMUNITY

Some of the BEST learning opportunities never show up in a Google search.

Watch community calendars from:

⛪ Churches📚 Libraries👵 Senior centers🏫 Community colleges🥕 Cooperative Extension offices🏛️ Community centers🍎 Farmers markets

You may discover cooking demonstrations, nutrition classes or food-preservation workshops right in your community.

💜 SARAH'S FREE RESOURCE PICK OF THE WEEK

⭐ COOPERATIVE EXTENSION

This is my pick because Extension offers so much more than people realize!

Depending on your area, you may find education about cooking, gardening, canning, nutrition, food safety, budgeting, agriculture and so much more.

And if your county doesn't have the class you're looking for, check the surrounding counties or ask about virtual classes.

🍳 THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE

Learn to make ONE THING you've never made before!

Maybe it's:

🍞 Homemade bread🥣 Soup from scratch🥧 A pie crust🍗 A new chicken dish🥕 A vegetable you've never cooked🍲 A one-pot meal🥫 Something preserved from the garden

You don't have to become a professional chef.

Just learn something new!

And if you have children or grandchildren, invite them into the kitchen. Some of the sweetest memories are made standing around a kitchen table. ❤️

📖 SCRIPTURE FOR THE WEEK

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31 (KJV)
