š SURRENDERED TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
Letting God Lead Every Area of Our Lives
October Theme: The Fruit of the Spirit
š TODAY'S SCRIPTURE ā Galatians 5:25 (KJV)
āIf we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.ā
ā Good morning & Happy Sunday, Bible Study Family!Ā š
God is so, so good!
As we close out another week of studying the Fruit of the Spirit, I want us to think about one very important word:
SURRENDER.
This week we've studied:
šæ FAITHĀ ā Trusting God even when we cannot see what lies ahead.
ā¤ļø MEEKNESSĀ ā Allowing God's Spirit to guide our strength, attitudes, and responses.
š TEMPERANCEĀ ā Practicing self-control and making choices that honor the Lord.
But here's something worth considering:
Are we truly allowing God to lead every area of our lives, or are we only surrendering the parts that are convenient?
š» SURRENDER IS MORE THAN A SUNDAY DECISION
It's easy to sing about trusting Jesus while sitting in church.
But what happens on Monday morning?
When we're running late?
When someone hurts our feelings?
When the bills are due?
When our plans don't work out?
Or when God calls us to do something that requires us to step outside our comfort zone?
Friend, surrender isn't just something we say.
It's something we practice through our daily choices.
Proverbs 3:5ā6 (KJV) reminds us:
āTrust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.ā
Notice those words:
āIn ALL thy waysā¦ā
Not just at church.
Not just during prayer.
Not just when we're facing trouble.
But in every area of our lives.
š SOMETIMES WE WANT GOD'S HELP WITHOUT GIVING HIM CONTROL
Now, this is where we need to examine our hearts.
Sometimes we pray:
āLord, guide my steps.ā
But then we insist on doing everything our own way.
We ask God for peace but continue holding on to bitterness.
We ask Him for patience but refuse to slow down and listen.
We ask Him for wisdom but make decisions without seeking His Word.
Friend, surrender means being willing to say:
āLord, Your way is better than mine, even when I don't fully understand it.ā
It doesn't mean we stop thinking, planning, or taking responsibility.
It means we bring our plans before God and seek to make decisions that honor Him.
šæ THE HOLY SPIRIT CHANGES US FROM THE INSIDE OUT
Galatians 5:22ā23 lists the beautiful Fruit of the Spirit:
ā¤ļø Love
š Joy
šļø Peace
ā³ Longsuffering
š· Gentleness
š» Goodness
š Faith
š Meekness
šæ Temperance
These qualities don't grow simply because we try to appear like good Christians.
They grow as we remain connected to Jesus and allow the Holy Spirit to work within us.
Sometimes that means admitting we were wrong.
Sometimes it means forgiving someone.
Sometimes it means changing a habit.
Sometimes it means walking away from something that doesn't honor God.
And sometimes it means trusting Him when we don't have the answers.
Surrender isn't about losing our purpose. It's about allowing God to shape our lives according to His Word.
ā¤ļø GOD DOESN'T EXPECT US TO BE PERFECT OVERNIGHT
Friend, spiritual growth takes time.
There will be days when we struggle.
Days when our patience is tested.
Days when we make mistakes.
And days when we need to stop and ask God for forgiveness.
But don't give up!
Philippians 1:6 (KJV) reminds us:
āBeing confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:ā
God is still working in us.
Our responsibility is to keep turning toward Him, listening to His Word, and responding in obedience.
A surrendered life isn't a perfect life. It's a life that keeps coming back to Jesus.
š TODAY'S PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for another beautiful Sunday and another opportunity to worship You.
Lord, I surrender my heart to You today.
Forgive me for the times I've tried to control everything instead of trusting Your wisdom.
Help me surrender my worries, my plans, my attitudes, and my desires.
Teach me to walk in the Spirit and make choices that honor You.
Grow love where bitterness has tried to take root.
Grow joy where discouragement has settled.
Grow peace where worry has taken over.
Grow patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and self-control in my life.
And Lord, when I stumble, help me turn back to You with a humble and willing heart.
Let my life reflect Jesus in everything I do.
In His precious name,
Amen.Ā š
š» TODAY'S SURRENDER CHALLENGE
Take a few quiet moments with God today.
Ask yourself:
šæ What area of my life am I still trying to control?
ā¤ļø Is there an attitude, habit, or worry I need to surrender?
š What is one step of obedience I can take today?
Then pray:
āLord, I surrender my plans, my worries, and my heart to You. Help me follow Your leading today.ā
š¬ QUESTION FOR OUR BIBLE STUDY FAMILY:
What is one area of your life where you've learned to trust God's guidance instead of depending only on your own understanding?
Share your encouragement in the comments. Your testimony may help someone else today! š
š· SUNDAY ENCOURAGEMENT
Friend, you don't have to have every answer.
You don't have to understand every situation.
And you don't have to carry every burden alone.
You simply need to keep walking with Jesus.
Let Him guide your decisions.
Let His Word shape your thinking.
Let His Spirit correct your attitudes.
And let His love be reflected in the way you treat others.
Remember:
Surrender isn't giving up on life. It's giving your life more fully to God.
šæ TRUST HIS WORD.
š FOLLOW HIS LEADING.
āļø SURRENDER YOUR HEART.
Because the most beautiful fruit grows in a life that remains connected to Jesus.
Have a wonderfully blessed Sunday, Bible Study Family! š
As you worship today, take a moment to thank God for the work He has already done in your life and the work He is still doing.
š» TOMORROW ā MONDAY, OCTOBER 26
EXAMINE YOUR FRUIT ā WHAT DOES YOUR LIFE REVEAL?
Tomorrow we begin the final week of our October series.
We'll look back at the nine qualities of the Fruit of the Spirit and ask an important question:
āIf someone examined my life, would they see evidence that I'm walking with Jesus?ā
