"When Heaven Feels So Far Away"
Scripture (KJV)
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."— John 14:1-3 (KJV)
🌿 Devotional Thought
There are days when Heaven can seem so very far away.
Perhaps today is one of those days.
You may find yourself wishing for just one more conversation, one more hug, or one more opportunity to say, "I love you."
Grief has a way of making the distance between earth and Heaven feel larger than it really is.
But Jesus gently reminds us, "Let not your heart be troubled."
Those words were spoken to hearts that were preparing to experience tremendous loss. Jesus knew His followers would soon face sorrow, uncertainty, and questions they couldn't yet answer. Before they walked through that valley, He gave them a promise they could hold onto.
"I go to prepare a place for you."
What a beautiful reminder that Heaven is not simply a place—it is our eternal home, lovingly prepared by our Savior.
For those who have trusted Christ, our loved ones are not lost. They are in the presence of the One who loves them even more than we do.
They are whole.
They are at peace.
They are experiencing joy beyond anything we can imagine.
While our hearts still ache here on earth, we can rest in knowing they are safe in God's perfect care.
Until the day we see them again, we have a calling.
To love deeply.
To forgive freely.
To encourage others.
To share the Gospel.
To live each day in a way that points people toward Jesus.
Every act of kindness, every prayer, every word of encouragement becomes part of the legacy we leave behind.
So when Heaven feels far away, remember this:
Every sunrise is one day closer.
Every faithful step brings us nearer.
Every promise of God remains true.
And one glorious day, faith will become sight as we stand in the presence of our Savior, reunited with those who have gone before us in Christ.
Until then, let hope be stronger than sorrow, and let God's promises steady your heart.
🙏 Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for preparing an eternal home for all who trust in Jesus Christ. When grief makes Heaven feel so far away, remind us that Your promises are certain and Your love never fails. Comfort every heart that is missing someone today. Fill us with peace that surpasses understanding and help us live each day with hope, knowing that You are holding our loved ones safely until the day we are reunited. Strengthen us to honor You with our lives while we wait for that glorious day.
In Jesus' precious Name,
Amen.
🌸 Reflection for Today
Spend a few quiet moments thanking God for the promise of Heaven.
Ask yourself:
"How can I honor my loved one's memory by living faithfully today?"
Perhaps it is showing kindness to someone who is hurting.
Perhaps it is sharing your testimony.
Perhaps it is simply trusting God with one more day.
Every step of faith honors both your Savior and those who inspired your journey.
