“You Don’t Have to Let Go of Love to Move Forward”

📖 Scripture — KJV

“The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love.”— Jeremiah 31:3

🌿 Devotional Thought

Sometimes people use the words “letting go” when they talk about grief.

You have to let go.

You have to move on.

You have to put the past behind you.

But I think those words can be painful to a grieving heart.

Because when you truly love someone, you don't simply wake up one morning and decide to let go of that love.

And you don't have to.

Moving forward does not mean leaving your loved one behind.

There is a difference between holding onto our love and becoming unable to live because of our loss.

God can teach us how to carry both:

the memory of yesterday and the hope of tomorrow.

đź’ś Love Doesn't Have an Expiration Date

Whether your loved one went Home last month, last year, ten years ago, or many decades ago, their life still matters.

There is no date on the calendar when you must stop saying their name.

No rule says you have to put away every photograph.

No timetable says you should no longer become emotional when a favorite song plays.

You loved them.

Of course you remember.

Some memories will make you laugh.

Others will bring tears.

And sometimes the same memory will do both.

That's okay.

The goal of healing isn't to erase the love.

It is learning, with God's help, how to carry that love without allowing the pain to keep us from living.

🌷 Carry Them Forward

There are beautiful ways we can carry the people we love into the future.

Make Momma's recipe.

Tell Daddy's funny story.

Sing Grandma's favorite hymn.

Use Grandpa's old saying.

Keep a family tradition.

Plant their favorite flower.

Give to something they cared about.

Show someone the kindness they once showed you.

And tell the younger generations:

“Let me tell you about someone very special…”

Every time we share those stories, another generation learns that this person lived, loved, laughed, struggled, believed, and mattered.

That isn't refusing to move forward.

That is legacy.

🌿 Moving Forward Is Not Moving Away

Perhaps you have felt guilty because life is beginning to change.

Maybe you laughed again.

You made new friends.

You traveled somewhere new.

You changed something in your home.

You started a new relationship or friendship.

You began dreaming about the future again.

And somewhere inside, you wondered:

“Am I leaving them behind?”

No, friend.

You are living.

You can build a tomorrow without destroying yesterday.

You can make new memories without replacing old ones.

You can love the people who are here while still missing the person who isn't.

Your heart has room for both.

🕊️ God Will Help You Carry What You Cannot Put Down

There are some things we aren't meant to simply “get over.”

Instead, God teaches us how to walk differently with them.

What once felt impossible to carry slowly becomes something we learn to place into His hands.

The grief may still visit.

The tears may still come.

But over time, alongside the tears, gratitude begins to grow.

“Thank You, Lord, that I had them.”

“Thank You for the memories.”

“Thank You for the love.”

“Thank You that their life touched mine.”

And most importantly:

“Thank You, Jesus, that death does not have the final word.”

🙏 Thursday Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the precious people You have allowed us to love.

Sometimes we struggle with the idea of moving forward because we are afraid it means leaving them behind.

Remind us today that we do not have to forget in order to heal.

Help us carry the memories with gratitude.

Give us permission to speak their names, tell their stories, laugh about the good times, and cry when our hearts need to.

At the same time, give us courage to keep living.

Help us embrace the people who are still here, make new memories, serve others, dream again, and receive the blessings You place before us.

Teach us to carry yesterday with love while trusting You with tomorrow.

And thank You for the eternal hope we have through Jesus Christ.

In Jesus' precious Name,

Amen.

🌸 Today's Grief Support Challenge

Choose one way to carry your loved one's legacy forward today.

Maybe you'll cook their favorite recipe.

Share their photograph.

Tell a funny story.

Listen to their favorite hymn.

Do an act of kindness in their memory.

Or simply say their name and thank God for their life.

And if you feel comfortable, share in the comments:

“One thing I never want people to forget about my loved one is…”

Let's give one another the gift of listening.

🤍 Need Prayer?

If grief is especially heavy today, you don't have to carry it alone. We would be honored to pray with you.

You can simply write:

“Please pray for me today.”

đź’ś Agape Love Thursday Reminder

Moving forward does not mean moving away from the people we love. We carry them in the lessons they taught us, the stories we tell, the traditions we continue, and the love we give to others. Don't be afraid to live again. Don't be afraid to remember either. With God's help, your heart can hold gratitude for yesterday, love for today, and hope for tomorrow.

You don't have to let go of love to keep walking forward. Carry the love—and let God carry you. 💜🕊️
