💜 Agape Love Daily Grief Support Devotional 💜Thursday, September 10, 2026“It’s the Little Things I Miss the Most”
📖 Scripture — KJV
“Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?”— Psalm 56:8
🌿 Devotional Thought
Sometimes grief isn't found in the big moments.
Sometimes it's in the smallest ones.
It's walking through the grocery store and seeing their favorite snack.
It's hearing a song they loved.
It's making a recipe and remembering exactly how they liked it.
It's reaching for your phone because, for just a second, you forgot you couldn't call them.
It's hearing something funny and immediately thinking:
“I wish I could tell you about this.”
It's seeing an empty chair.
Finding something with their handwriting on it.
Hearing someone use a phrase they always said.
Or having something wonderful happen and realizing they aren't here to celebrate it with you.
Those little moments can catch us completely off guard.
One minute you're fine.
The next, tears are running down your face.
Friend, God sees those tears too.
💜 God Notices the Tears Nobody Else Sees
Psalm 56 gives us such a tender picture of God's care.
David says:
“Put thou my tears into thy bottle.”
What a beautiful reminder.
The world may not notice every tear.
Your family may not know that today is difficult.
Your coworkers may see you smiling and assume everything is fine.
Even the people closest to you may not understand why something so small suddenly brought back so much emotion.
But God knows.
He knows exactly what that memory meant.
He knows why that song matters.
He knows why you kept that old note.
He knows why you can't bring yourself to throw away that coffee mug.
He knows.
And He cares.
🌷 The Little Things Were Actually the Big Things
Grief teaches us something we often don't understand until later.
The little things weren't little at all.
The ordinary mornings.
The phone calls.
The inside jokes.
The Sunday dinners.
The rides in the car.
The cup of coffee together.
The sound of someone moving around the house.
The simple question:
“Did you make it home okay?”
We may have thought those moments were ordinary.
But after someone is gone, we realize:
Those were some of life's greatest treasures.
Love often lives most beautifully in ordinary places.
🌿 Don't Be Afraid of the Memories
When one of those little reminders appears today, you don't have to immediately push it away.
Pause for a moment.
Remember.
If you need to cry, cry.
If the memory makes you laugh, laugh.
Then say:
“Thank You, Lord, for that memory.”
The goal isn't to stop remembering.
The goal isn't to erase the person from our hearts.
Healing is slowly learning to remember with more love than pain.
And that takes time.
Give yourself grace.
🕊️ Let Grief Teach You to Notice Today's Little Things
There is something else those memories can teach us.
Look around at the ordinary moments happening right now.
Someone may call you today.
Don't rush them off the phone.
Someone may sit beside you for coffee.
Enjoy it.
Your grandchild may tell you a story that seems to go on forever.
Listen.
Your spouse may ask you the same question they asked yesterday.
Smile.
Your parents may tell you a story you've already heard.
Listen one more time.
Someone may hug you.
Hug them back a little tighter.
Today's little things are becoming tomorrow's memories.
Notice them while they're happening.
🌸 Keep the Little Memories
Write them down.
We often think we'll remember everything forever, but time has a way of softening details.
Write down the funny sayings.
Write down the recipes.
Write down the stories.
Write down what their voice sounded like.
Write down the things they taught you.
Write down what made them laugh.
Tell those stories to your children and grandchildren.
Don't only preserve the dates.
Preserve the person.
Their personality.
Their humor.
Their faith.
Their kindness.
Their quirks.
Their love.
That's how memories become legacy.
🙏 Thursday Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for every little memory we carry of the people we love.
You know how unexpectedly grief can appear.
A song.
A smell.
A photograph.
A favorite food.
An empty chair.
A familiar saying.
And suddenly our hearts ache again.
Thank You for seeing every tear, including the ones nobody else knows we cry.
When memories hurt, comfort us.
When memories make us smile, help us enjoy them without guilt.
Teach us to treasure the little things happening around us today.
Help us slow down.
Help us listen.
Help us put away distractions.
Help us hug a little longer, talk a little more, forgive a little quicker, and say “I love you” more often.
And help us preserve the beautiful stories of those who have gone before us so another generation will know who they were.
Thank You for Jesus and for the hope that this earthly life is not the end.
In Jesus' precious Name,
Amen.

💜 Agape Love Thursday Reminder
Sometimes it's not the anniversaries or the big occasions that make us miss someone most. It's their coffee cup, their laugh, their favorite meal, their chair, their handwriting, or wishing we could tell them something about our day. Those little things hurt because they were never really little—they were pieces of a life shared in love.
💜 Remember the little things.
🌷 Write down the stories.
🤍 Treasure the people still here.
🕊️ Give every tear to God.
Someday we realize the little things were some of the biggest blessings of all. 💜
