“Just Get Through Today”
📖 Scripture — KJV
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.”— Matthew 6:34
🌿 Devotional Thought
Sometimes grief makes us look too far ahead.
We start thinking about the next birthday.
The anniversary.
Thanksgiving.
Christmas.
The family gathering.
The wedding they won't attend.
The graduation they won't see.
Another year beginning without them.
Before we know it, we are grieving days that haven't even arrived yet.
If you're doing that today, I want to gently remind you:
You don't have to survive tomorrow today.
God hasn't asked you to carry next week.
He hasn't asked you to carry Christmas this morning.
He hasn't asked you to figure out how you'll feel a year from now.
He has given you today.
And He will give you the grace you need for today.
💜 Today's Grace Is Enough for Today's Grief
When we look too far down the road, grief can feel impossible.
We think:
“How am I supposed to live the rest of my life without them?”
That question is enormous.
So make it smaller.
Instead ask:
“Lord, will You help me through today?”
And the answer is yes.
Maybe today you need enough strength to get out of bed.
Maybe you need enough courage to go to work.
Maybe you need strength to walk into an empty house.
Maybe you simply need enough grace to make it through the next hour.
Whatever today's need is, God is already there.
🌷 You Don't Need Tomorrow's Strength Yet
Think about how God provided manna for Israel.
They received what they needed for the day.
There is something beautiful in that lesson for us.
We often want God to give us enough strength right now for every difficult moment ahead.
But sometimes He says:
“Trust Me. I'll meet you there when you get there.”
When the anniversary arrives, He'll be there.
When the birthday comes, He'll be there.
When the holidays arrive, He'll be there.
When an unexpected memory brings tears six months from now—
He'll be there too.
You don't need tomorrow's strength because you're not living tomorrow yet.
🌿 Some Days, “Making It” Looks Different
Maybe yesterday you accomplished everything on your list.
Today, getting dressed feels difficult.
That's okay.
Some days healing looks like going out with friends.
Other days it looks like staying home and resting.
Some days you'll laugh until your sides hurt.
Other days you'll cry over a photograph you've seen a hundred times.
Don't judge yourself by what you accomplished today.
Sometimes victory looks like:
I got up.
I prayed.
I ate something.
I called someone.
I cried and kept going.
I made it through today.
Friend, sometimes that is enough.
🕊️ Don't Borrow Grief From Tomorrow
There will be difficult days ahead.
There will also be beautiful ones.
Don't forget that part.
Tomorrow may bring a phone call that makes you smile.
A prayer may be answered.
Someone may stop by unexpectedly.
A grandchild may make you laugh.
You may see a beautiful sunrise.
You may hear exactly the Scripture your heart needed.
You may realize one morning:
“I'm beginning to breathe again.”
If we spend today fearing tomorrow's pain, we may miss today's blessings.
Let tomorrow belong to God.
🌸 Give Yourself Permission to Live Today
You don't have to wait until grief completely disappears to live.
Drink the coffee while it's hot.
Step outside and feel the sunshine.
Call the friend.
Hug your family.
Play with the grandchildren.
Turn on some music.
Cook something you enjoy.
Go somewhere peaceful.
Open your Bible.
Laugh if something is funny.
And if tears come in the middle of all of it?
Let them.
A tear doesn't ruin a good day.
It simply means love is still present.
🙏 Tuesday Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Sometimes I look too far ahead and become overwhelmed by days that haven't even arrived.
Forgive me when I try to carry tomorrow before You have asked me to.
Help me stay here—with You—today.
Give me today's strength.
Today's peace.
Today's courage.
Today's mercy.
Today's hope.
When I begin worrying about anniversaries, holidays, birthdays, and future moments without the person I love, remind me that You will meet me there when those days come.
Thank You that I don't have to carry my entire future at once.
Help me notice the blessings around me today.
And if all I accomplish is simply making it through this day holding Your hand, remind me that is enough.
Thank You for Jesus and for the eternal hope we have through Him.
In Jesus' precious Name,
Amen.

Write your answer down.
Then pray:
“Lord, give me what I need for today. I trust You with tomorrow.”
