🌿 Devotional Thought
Good morning, sweet friends.
As I sit here with my coffee this morning, my heart is thinking about something I believe every person who has lost someone they love can understand.
Have you ever wished Heaven had visiting hours?
Just one afternoon.
One more Sunday dinner.
One more opportunity to sit across from someone you love and tell them everything that has happened since they left.
I would love to tell my Momma about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
I would love to hear her voice, see her smile, and feel her arms around me.
And my sweet Michael? Oh, what I wouldn't give for one more hug, one more conversation, one more opportunity to tell him how much his Momma loves him.
There are so many things I wish I could tell them.
So many moments I wish they could have been here to experience.
Maybe you understand exactly what I'm talking about.
Maybe there's someone you'd love to sit with this morning.
Someone whose voice you haven't heard in years.
Someone whose chair has been empty for far too long.
Someone you still think about when something wonderful happens because your first thought is:
“Oh, I wish I could tell you about this!”
Friend, I understand.
And more importantly, God understands.
💜 Sometimes We Don't Need Anything Special—Just One Ordinary Day
Isn't it amazing how grief changes what we consider precious?
We might think we would want one more big celebration, one more vacation, or one more special occasion.
But I believe many of us would be perfectly happy with one ordinary day.
Sitting around the kitchen table.
Drinking coffee.
Listening to the same old stories.
Watching our loved one laugh.
Hearing them say our name.
Getting one more hug before walking out the door.
We wouldn't need anything fancy.
We would simply want them there.
And perhaps that's one of the greatest lessons grief teaches us.
The ordinary moments we sometimes take for granted are often the ones we miss the most.
🌷 God Understands the Longing of Our Hearts
There are days when we can talk about our loved ones and smile.
And there are days when simply hearing their name brings tears.
Sometimes we can look at their photographs for hours.
Other times, we have to put them away because our hearts aren't ready.
Grief doesn't always make sense.
And it doesn't follow a schedule.
But I want you to remember something today:
God never becomes impatient with your grief.
He doesn't look at the calendar and tell you that you should be finished missing someone.
He knows the love you shared.
He knows the memories.
He knows the empty places.
He knows the conversations you wish you could still have.
And He knows the tears you cry when nobody else is around.
Psalm 34:18 reminds us:
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
What a comfort to know that when our hearts are broken, our Heavenly Father draws near.
🕊️ Heaven Is More Than a Beautiful Thought
As Christians, we have something precious to hold on to.
Our hope is not simply wishing that someday things will be better.
Our hope is Jesus Christ.
Because He died and rose again, those who belong to Him have the promise of eternal life.
And Revelation tells us about a day when God Himself will wipe away every tear.
Can you imagine?
No more hospital rooms.
No more heartbreaking phone calls.
No more funeral homes.
No more cemetery goodbyes.
No more empty chairs.
No more death.
No more sorrow.
No more pain.
What a day that will be!
Until then, we keep trusting Jesus.
We keep walking by faith.
We keep sharing His love.
And we keep remembering that this earthly life is not all there is.
🌸 Don't Forget to Love the People Who Are Still Here
There is something else on my heart this morning.
While we are wishing for one more day with those who have gone before us, let's not overlook the people God has given us today.
Call your Momma if you still can.
Visit Daddy.
Have coffee with a friend.
Sit with your spouse.
Play with your grandchildren.
Listen to the stories.
Take the pictures.
Make the memories.
Tell people you love them.
And please, don't wait until everything is perfect.
Take the picture even if your hair isn't fixed.
Visit even if the house isn't spotless.
Make the phone call even if you only have ten minutes.
Someday, the little things you do today may become someone's most treasured memories.
We cannot go back and change yesterday.
But we can choose to love well today.
🙏 Tuesday Morning Prayer
Heavenly Father,
This morning, I bring You every person who wishes Heaven had visiting hours.
You know the names written upon our hearts.
You know whose voice we long to hear.
You know whose hugs we miss.
You know the conversations we wish we could have and the memories we hold so tightly.
Lord, some of us have been carrying grief for many years, and others are just beginning this difficult journey.
Please wrap Your loving arms around every hurting heart today.
When memories bring tears, comfort us.
When memories bring smiles, help us receive that joy without guilt.
Remind us that missing someone doesn't mean we have lost our faith.
Help us keep our eyes fixed upon Jesus and the eternal hope we have through Him.
And Father, while we remember those who have gone before us, help us treasure the people who are still here.
Teach us to love more deeply, forgive more quickly, listen more patiently, and never take an ordinary moment for granted.
Thank You for the promise of a day when there will be no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain.
Until then, help us keep walking with You.
