“Lord, I’m Missing Them Today”
📖 Scripture — KJV
“The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.”— Psalm 145:18
🌿 Devotional Thought
Some mornings grief arrives before we even get out of bed.
Nothing particular happened.
There wasn't an anniversary.
It wasn't their birthday.
No special song played.
You simply woke up and thought of them.
And suddenly your heart whispered:
“Lord, I'm missing them today.”
Maybe that's all the prayer you have this morning.
Friend, that's enough.
You don't always need beautiful words when you talk to God.
You don't need a long prayer.
You don't need to explain why today hurts more than yesterday.
God already knows.
Sometimes the simplest prayer can come from the deepest place in our hearts:
“Jesus, I miss them. Please stay close today.”
And He will.
💜 Some Days You Just Miss Them
Grief doesn't always need an explanation.
Sometimes you simply miss the person.
You miss their voice.
Their laugh.
Their hugs.
Their cooking.
Their advice.
The way they walked into a room.
The way they said your name.
You even miss the little things that once irritated you.
You miss knowing they were somewhere in this world.
There is something comforting about simply knowing the people we love are there.
And when they're gone, that absence can feel enormous.
You don't have to apologize for missing someone you loved deeply.
Love leaves an imprint upon our hearts.
🌷 Tell God About Them
Have you ever simply sat with God and talked about the person you miss?
Try it.
“Lord, remember how funny they were?”
“Lord, I miss Momma today.”
“Lord, I wish Daddy were here to see this.”
“Lord, I wish I could hear their voice.”
“Lord, thank You for letting me love them.”
God already knows every memory.
But there is something healing about bringing our hearts honestly before Him.
Psalm 145 tells us that the Lord is near to those who call upon Him.
So call.
Even if your voice shakes.
Even if tears interrupt every sentence.
He is listening.
🌿 Remember Their Life, Not Only Their Leaving
Grief has a way of making the final chapter feel larger than all the chapters before it.
We remember the hospital.
The phone call.
The funeral.
The goodbye.
But the person you love was so much more than the day they left this earth.
Today, deliberately remember a day they lived.
Remember something silly.
Remember a family dinner.
Remember a vacation.
Remember Christmas morning.
Remember sitting on the porch.
Remember an ordinary conversation.
Remember them laughing.
Don't let the hardest day become the only story you tell.
Their life deserves to be remembered for how they lived and loved.
🕊️ When the Memory Makes You Smile, Let It
Sometimes grief surprises us.
A memory that once brought only tears suddenly makes us laugh.
Then guilt can creep in.
“Should I be laughing?”
Yes.
Smile.
Laugh.
Tell the story again.
Your laughter doesn't mean you've stopped missing them.
It means love is beginning to speak louder than pain in that moment.
There is something beautiful about reaching the place where we can say:
“I still miss you, but I am so thankful I knew you.”
That is not forgetting.
That is gratitude growing alongside grief.
🌸 Love the People You Can Still Hold
Grief teaches us how precious a hug really is.
So today, hug someone.
Call someone.
Sit down and have coffee with someone.
Ask your parents or grandparents another question about their lives.
Listen to the story you've already heard.
Take the picture.
Don't worry about whether everyone looks perfect.
Someday, imperfect photographs may become priceless treasures.
And before you walk away, say:
“I love you.”
We cannot hug yesterday.
But God has given us people to love today.
🙏 Wednesday Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Today I'm missing someone.
You know exactly who is on my heart.
You know the memories that bring tears and the ones that make me smile.
Thank You that I don't have to explain my grief to You.
You already understand.
When my heart feels lonely, draw near.
When a memory catches me unexpectedly, hold me.
When regret tries to steal the beautiful memories, remind me of the entire story of love.
Help me remember my loved one for how they lived, laughed, loved, and touched my life.
Thank You for every moment You allowed us to share.
Help me treasure the people who are still here.
Teach me to love them intentionally, listen patiently, forgive quickly, hug tightly, and say “I love you” freely.
And when all I can pray is:
“Lord, I'm missing them today,”
remind me that even that little prayer reaches Heaven.
Thank You for Jesus, for Your unfailing presence, and for the eternal hope we have through Christ.
In Jesus' precious Name,
Amen.
🌻 Today's Grief Support Challenge
Today, instead of focusing on the day your loved one died, choose one memory from when they were living.
Write:
“Today I remember when…”
Tell the story.
Write down what happened.
Write down what they said.
Write down why it makes you smile.
If you feel comfortable, share the memory with someone else.
Let's remember our loved ones for more than their final chapter.
Let's remember the beautiful chapters too.

💜 Agape Love Wednesday Reminder
Some days there doesn't have to be a reason—you simply miss them. When those days come, don't fight every memory or apologize for every tear. Take their name to Jesus. Tell God what your heart is carrying. Remember how they lived, not only how they left. Laugh at the funny stories. Treasure the love. And hold a little tighter to the people God has given you today.
💜 Speak their name.
🌷 Tell their story.
🕊️ Give God your tears.
🤍 Treasure today's people.
And when you have no other words, simply pray: “Lord, I'm missing them today.” He understands. 💜
