When Your Heart Needs a Place to Rest
Scripture (KJV)
"The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit."— Psalm 34:18
Devotional Thought
There are moments on the journey of grief when your heart simply becomes tired.
Not because you have lost your faith.
Not because you have stopped trusting God.
But because carrying love and loss at the same time is exhausting.
There are days when you smile for others while quietly carrying a burden no one else can see.
There are nights when the house seems a little quieter.
The chair seems a little emptier.
The memories seem a little closer.
And the tears come without warning.
If that is where you find yourself today, know this:
God is not disappointed in your tears.
In fact, Scripture tells us that He is near to the brokenhearted.
Not watching from a distance.
Not waiting for you to "move on."
Not expecting you to pretend that everything is okay.
He comes close.
He sits with you in your sorrow.
He listens to the prayers you cannot put into words.
He understands the ache of missing someone you love because He, too, understands loss.
When Jesus stood outside the tomb of Lazarus, even knowing He was about to perform a miracle, He wept.
That simple truth reminds us that tears are not a lack of faith.
They are an expression of love.
Friend, if your heart is weary today, give yourself permission to rest.
You do not have to have all the answers.
You do not have to be strong every moment.
You simply have to keep placing one hand in God's hand and trust Him with the next step.
Healing is not measured by how few tears you cry.
Healing is measured by the faithfulness of the God who walks beside you through every tear.
One day, the pain of separation will be over.
One day, faith will become sight.
One day, every broken heart will be made whole.
Until that glorious day, God will continue to carry you.
One sunrise.
One prayer.
One heartbeat at a time.
And His grace will always be enough.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being so near to the brokenhearted. Thank You for loving us through every season of grief and for never asking us to carry our burdens alone. When our hearts grow weary, remind us that Your arms are always open and Your strength is always sufficient. Help us find peace in Your presence, hope in Your promises, and comfort in knowing that You walk beside us every step of this journey.
In Jesus' precious Name,
Amen.
